We're thinking of stopping for one night on the way to Reno. Mizpha - historical hotel - has good reviews on trip advisor. The hotel website says they reopened the casino in the last year or so. Anyone been there?

I drove through there 10 years ago. All I saw was a gas station and the Clown Motel.

I've never stayed at the Mizpah Hotel, but I've heard it's haunted. :) I stayed at the BW. They have some fun stuff around town, Goldfield, etc if you're into old mining history, ghost towns and the like.

Are you driving Vegas to Reno and looking for somewhere to stay? I prefer Hwy 395 in CA for traveling north to Reno, but there's something to be said for the desert route.

yes, driving from San Diego to Reno.....could stop in Vegas and get "free" room or take 395 as you said. Never been to Tonopah so we thought possible get there in the afternoon, gamble a bit, eat, leave next morning for Reno. What is BW?

Yikes! I sure wouldn't go outta my way to go to Tonapah, but since you're already driving though, why not? It's a slice of "real" Nevada as they say out there...

BW is the Best Western there in town. The Mizpah was scary looking, but I have heard they've had a bit of a resurgence since I was last there.

I'm not sure how many people here get out that way very often, but hopefully someone will have info about their casino. If not, Trip Advisor may just be your best source of info for Tonopah. I love an adventure. Enjoy!

Have never stayed there. Have driven past it many times. Looks interesting. I certainly wouldn't pre-book.

Any casino along this route has been old and smokey, if that matters to you.

I've driven most all of the basin-and-range back routes across the Silver State. If you're never driven 395 or it's been a long time, I'd go that route simply because it is one of America's sublime drives with ever-unfolding scenes. If that's old hat, try something new. But I'd not jag SD/LV/395.

Drove through here once but never stayed. Flew past there many times while on the Nellis Range Complex doing exercises. I am not sure (memory problem) if we were briefed that an dire emergency landing could be made at an old WWII runway there

I drove through in April. We had considered staying over, but I'm glad we didn't.

Wife once expressed the desire to go there to dig turquoise. I think she forgot about it, thank goodness.
