9,000 miles is not enough for a study, but so far my 2014 Outback is getting an avg of 33.4 with a mix of 60/40 city/hwy.

Do not lease a car. That is idiotic. I would recommend getting a pre-owned car with 20kish miles or less

You could always try a lexus gs awd or audi a6. They are sedans, however. Repairs will be greater on European cars. If you want a bigger car, I second the acura mdx or lexus lx

    Do not lease a car!!

Hell yeah! I like your taste! Every time I drive through the mountains to one of my locals, I wish I was driving a Porsche!

That's awesome for a car that size. I'll have to revisit an Outback as a possibility.

One of the Lexus dealers here has a 2013 GS350 AWD with 20K miles. Light interior though so I would maybe need to cover the rear seat with the dogs:

    Wow, nice car.

Maybe not the most practical for winter in Minnesota though.

Shokhead- I really like the Q5, I just worry about the repair bills.

Be sure to check the KBB price (kbb.com). Most dealerships will always charge more than the KBB price. You can always talk them down. Be firm. Since it is a pre-certified car, they will try to charge you more as well. My brother first car was a lexus. I think he put 240k miles on it before he bought his s5.

Also, check the car fax to ensure there is no BS when you buy the car. The dealership will give it to you for free. Just request it.

BTW, wayzata is a nice dealership. If you decide to go with this car, get your oil change and maintenance there. Very friendly staff and nice dealership. Lexus are reliable cars without too bad of maintenance bills. They are the upper version of a toyota.

Take a look at the Honda crv. Honda's are very dependable and will last forever.

Like them but underpowered for me. Same for the rav4. Last year they still had the spare on the door they still had a great v6.

What are the best times to buy a new car for negotiating? Which months, end of month?

This is irrelevant if you have to get rid of your car immediately.

I'd sure like a new car.

I'd rather buy a 2 or 3 year old. Some cars change so little you can buy a 2013 and it's the same as a 2015 except cheaper. End of a month or quarter for a new car is best

    Make/model, new/used, lease/buy ... as many iterations as buyers.

Nissan, Honda, Toyota. My friends in auto repair recommended these three ( and their luxury versions) as the cars with the least problems. I got an Odyssey and am very happy with it. I am now looking at the Toyota Hybrid Highlander.

I just purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5i this past February - So far it has been an exceptional vehicle with great gas mileage. I have the Subaru Eyesight system in the car and it is nothing short of amazing to me.

Gotta check out the new Lincoln MKC, after all, academy award winner Matthew McConaughey endorses it. :evillaugh. I'm a fan of buying used or off lease cars, let the first owner take the bulk of depreciation. I have bought a few 8-12 year old Volvos without regret, but I also have a great factory trained mechanic.

I recently read a blog written by a guy who bought a used Range Rover from CarMax. The $3,000 extended warranty came in handy when the air suspension went out. All told, he had $4,500 in repairs and about a year left on the warranty.

I know a lot of ladies but my age think Matthew McConaughey is all that, but I am not one of those ladies.

I would prefer to take my car advice from someone who really knows cars.

What a smarmy idiotic ad series that is. Wow. Do famous-people endorsements move anyone to make purchases? Seems many must park there brains and be swayed given their prevalence.

Shop online. The practice isn't as fruitful as several years back what with everyone and his brother doing it. But our last three purchases were fully negotiated online -- OK, one took a bit of time at the dealership as we combined no-interest financing and the internet price -- and we then just walked in with a check and drove out shortly thereafter. It's still a key tool in this racket, however.

Online is the way to go and do not give them your phone # until the OTD price is agreed upon.

For me, the best part of shopping online is checking dealer inventory so I can find the car in the exact color and option set I'm looking for.

I think McConaughey has a 3 year endorsement deal.
