I know it is silly (and really no benefit whatsoever), but I am 384 points away from Pearl in Mlife and being that close REALLY makes me want to get to Pearl. I will not be in Vegas until Nov, nor will I be anywhere near any of the non-vegas mlife hotels. So I am considering booking a room on mlife.com for 1 night at Excalibur for this month and no-show, I have to pay the 1 night deposit as a penalty- so does anyone know if I would earn TCs on that?

If I do no show, do I still get charged the resort fee in the penalty or just the room rate plus tax?

Pearl isnt all that great except skipping the lines at the buffets. As for no showing, if you are booking using a casino offer that might hurt your future comps which are worth more than holding the Pearl card. And I'm pretty sure you will be out the room rate + the resort fee + I dont even know if they will give you the points earned on paying for the room since you didnt actually stay there.

Also, a quick tip for your next trip, bookmark the mlife site on your smart phone. They update it throughout the day and you can see exactly how many tier credits you have while you play. That way you will know exactly where you are if you are close to moving up.

There's nothing about Pearl that should make you want to pay for it.

    Agree.

If anything, your offers will drop with a "low play" day.

Are you anywhere near another MLIFE casino? Maybe make a weekend trip out of it.

I'm not sure you would even get Tier Credits for a no show.

The deposit you make gets charged when you make the reservation.

Then after you check in, you get charged for the room and they apply the deposit.

If you never check in, you might not ever have a folio; you don't get charged for the room, so you have no hotel spend. They just keep the deposit.

The problem with that is that all non-Las Vegas mLife casinos have significantly discounted points earning. Even the multipliers for purchases are discounted.

    From the mLife website:

For slot play in Las Vegas M life casinos, you receive ten (10) Tier Credits for every Base Point earned. When playing at Beau Rivage or Gold Strike Tunica, you receive two (2) Tier Credits for every Base Point earned. At MGM Grand Detroit, you receive one (1) Tier Credit for every Base Point earned. For table games, you'll earn Tier Credits based on length of play, average bet, and game type.

Is this because the MGM hold is greater on Vegas slots or that MGM doesn't have much competition in those other markets?

I would feel like it's the latter.

I think it is really related to the fact that MGM tries to keep the properties separate at least for internal accounting purposes. They probably figure they don't need to give out the comps as much to get the players at the local properties - and the Vegas properties don't want people just accumulating express comps at the local place and then using them all in Vegas.

I am that way with CET - I earn most of my points at the local casino - but typically only use them for meals etc when I get to Vegas. But CET does not have the same approach to treating each property separate. Even if Vegas play at one CET casino counts the same with respect to comps/offers at all of their properties. With Mlife you are much more likely to just get offers from the places you actually play and they focus more on your play at just that casino..

To the original poster - I would agree with the others that Pearl is not worth spending any significant amount of money to get. If you want to do it try to find a friend that will be in Vegas before October 1 and give them your card to stick in a machine long enough to get those points. It will still be a low play day - but if you have someone willing to do this that would be gambling anyway that might be worth it to get the Pearl status. I would help you out - but we don't go again until October.

Thanks for the feedback- I know pearl really carries no value- just figured if I could book a room for $23 and earn 25pts/$ it was possibly worth it just to say I hit a level that wasn't the lowest... I did consider canceling but too close to get a refund, but if the above poster is correct that no folio = no hotel spend, then I guess that kills the possibility.

And Detroit is closest to me (5 hours through Canada) but the devalued points definitely remove the worth of making that trek.

I'm just making a guess about no folio being created, I don't know for a fact that's what would happen. But I think it's a possibility, because how do they create a folio and charge you for the room if you never check in? I think they just keep the deposit as a penalty.

Pearl benefits are easy to quantify:

10% discount in gift shops instead of 5%
$0.001 in extra Express Comps and $0.001 in extra PointPlay per $3.00 coin in.

So to recoup your $23, it would take spending $460 in a gift shop or $11,500 coin in on slots.

I think you mean gold. None of what you listed come with Pearl. Im platinum and I think its 20% off in the giftshop. I was Pearl for one day before hitting gold the next and I dont think I got any discount or extra express comps. Once I got gold I got points faster and thats how I made Platinum.

Another option to consider is tying your M life account with a Hyatt Passport account (https://www.mlife.com/pages/about_m_life_faq.html#hyatt). Find a Hyatt located near you (make it a weekend trip) and stay for a night. You get 8 M life tier credits per dollar spent at Hyatt.

Thank you! I think I'll have a night I'm DC before the end of sept so that should work out nicely for me, I'll have to find a good Hyatt!

I didn't realize you get the same discount as Gold in the gift shops. I'm shocked by that considering once you hit Pearl it takes 3 times the points to get to Gold (75K). i also didnt know you even got a discount with just a base card. Thanks for pointing that out. The extra 1/10th of a penny in EC's and free play really isn't much of anything but I do stand corrected! Thats what I get for replying on my smart phone without actually checking the site.

I am in the same boat. Purchasing an MLIFE giftcard would count toward your points. If you email mlife and ask how many dollars you are short to spend they will let you know. You can find their email at the contact us section at the bottom of the mlife page.
I am debating on it myself since there isn't much difference in Sapphire and Pearl, but I am so darn close! LOL
At least wit a gift card you could use at Mlife Restaurants, shops, etc.

I emailed mlife and they told me that buying the gift card does not earn TCs- they said you earn TC when you actually use the GC.

I did end up making it through Hyatt spend but that wasn't as smooth as I hoped. The front desk agent had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to give her my mlife card so I figured I could request the points through their past stay policy which said to contact Hyatt Gold Passport to request past credit. After my stay I called Hyatt, they told me that the link between the two doesn't work smoothly and I need to call mlife. I called mlife and they said I needed to email mlife with all of the details of my request. I emailed mlife who pointed to the Hyatt rules which say I need to contact Hyatt. I tried emailing Hyatt which ultimately worked but it took a few days before they responded, and their first response was they wanted me to confirm that I definitely wanted to proceed as it was irreversible and I couldn't get my Hyatt Gold points back. After I response it was another few days before they said they did the conversion and it would post to mlife in 8-12 weeks. They posted within a few days.
