i'm staying at Aria in a couple weeks with my BF. We are renting a car at Aria for a day to drive out to Hoover dam. Are there other places you would recommend stopping at on the way back?

We broke up the trip a bit by having breakfast at a cafe in Boulder City...not that it's a long trip, but it made for a nice respite. Also, it gets very very busy with back-ups on the roads if you leave mid-late morning. We stayed on East coast time and woke up at 5:00 and were out the door and on the road by 6:00am. No traffic. And when we were driving home about noon it was one long long parking lot for those people on the road just arriving. This was mid-week.

Red Rock Canyon is not too far and worth at least a drive thru. We did the Red Rock and Mt. Charleston drive in about a half a day, I think we were back by 2 or 3pm

However, red rock is the opposite direction of Hoover dam. A nice trip but both would be ambitious for one day.
If you like cheap gambling and food and don't have kids with you, you can stop at Jokers Wild or another casino in Henderson.

I did Valley of Fire and really enjoyed it. I didn't have time for much hiking but plan to get back out there.

For me Hoover Dam is worth about an hour, unless you take the tour inside of the thing. If she's going in a couple of weeks I guarantee you will just be driving Red Rock which takes about 1.5 hours tops. You can count on 105+ degrese in the middle of July. As for it being out of the way, not really. Hoover dam is on the SE side and Red Rock is on the SW side. 57 Minutes according to
    Google Maps

My wife and I stayed at Aria in December and rented a car from there as well (MLife Discount). We had the buffet breakfast around 9 and headed on the road just after 10 or so. Straight down Las Vegas Blvd. to the highway turn.

After the Hoover Dam we went to the South Vegas Outlet Mall. My wife enjoyed the shopping. Me not so much. After that we went to the Pinball Hall of Fame and played about 10 games that I hadn't seen since the 70's and 80's. It's nothing fancy but they have all the pinball games you could imagine.

We still had lots of time on our hands but packed it in as we had evening plans and wanted to rest up.

You could stop at the Old Vegas Sign and get your picture take together.

Stop by downtown Henderson on the way and have breakfast at the Rainbow casino. It will transport you back to the 70s or 80s and the food is good.

    Good Luck!
