So my best friend and I are going to Vegas next thursday and it just so happened that I got a free room at TheHotel for Thursday and Friday however after reading some trip advisors people are saying they don't like the hotel. Our other two nights are at the Tropicana so my question is do we just forget about TheHotel and go with the Trop or stay the first 2 nights at the TheHotel and then the other 2 at the Trop.

I'm only asking because my bestie has never been to Vegas and I want her to have the trip of a life time.

We are just looking to relax by a pool and drink. Nothing fancy just getting away from the hubbys and kids;)

Take trip advisor with a grain of salt

Never stayed at THEhotel personally - but I do travel extensively for business - regarding trip advisor, I always take what's on there with a grain of salt after reading an assessment of online reviews by someone in the hotel industry a while back that said usually the vast majority of people who write online reviews tend to have had either a really good or a really bad experience - that's what motivates them to write the review in the first place - and that made sense to me, because if you read trip advisor too much it will drive you nuts - even the best properties will have people writing scathingly bad things about it, while some of the worst will get raved about by people who don't know any better. I've read horrible things about places I've loved and great things about places I thought were dumps.

It's best to make your decision based on information from a number of sources - trip advisor, a few different travel guides, places like this, etc. - you'll get a more well rounded overview of what a place is like and if it's "for you" or not by doing that. If the overall sentiment of a number of different sources is consistent, then I'd worry. But after having read that about who posts and why - I give far less weight to online reviews than I do to a place's overall reputation and word of mouth from people I actually know whose opinions I respect.

I Agree with that 100 percent..

I have stayed at the hotel next to Mandalay Bay and it was fun, room i stayed was mini suit so a room with couch and tv and a bedroom, it was current and clean. the pool is Mandalay pool, its a walk to get there,(like across a casino and down a different elevator walk) but I love the pool at Mandalay, wave pool, outside building with windows facing the pool with bar vp and blackjack and craps when i was there last, with windows that open to the pool, its a great time...

for that alone I would say stay at The Hotel(free!) why not, the money you save on room lets you cab anywhere you want the first 2 days... and you get the pool..

i am going out Monday thru Friday and I am at Mandalay bay Thursday and Friday, I will be the big guy playing craps in a Hawaii shirt outside by the pool... see u there...

the games outside are on the second floor of the beach tower/club building in the middle...

THE Hotel is a significantly nicer property. Either one you'll have "a hike" to the main strip as you may know. But as Jim says the pool is nice--really nice. If you're really wanting pool time stay at THE H for that reason alone. But the rooms are great too.

I'm leaving for TheHotel this weekend. Been there before and really like it. As long as you don't mind being on the end of the strip, stay there!

I stayed at The Hotel last year for the first time. All previous trips were at MGM. I really LOVED The Hotel. You get a lot for your money. If you don't mind being that end of the strip, it's a great decision. The rooms are large, 2 bathrooms are great, and a separate bedroom makes it feel very big (it is big).

I love that The Hotel is in the corner out of the way. It's always fast to get to your room and the elevators are very fast compared to MB. The pools are awesome.

If you don't mind walking, and you know the maze (and monorails) it's actually pretty painless to get to the other side of the trip. We regularly go to Encore, Venetian, Bellagio just by walking or monorails.

THE Hotel is awesome, and perfect for what you are looking for. The rooms are very nice, and the pool area at Mandalay is the best in Vegas.

THE Hotel is heads and shoulders better than the Trop. I would def keep your room....your friend will be impressed.

My favorite hotel on the south end. Love the rooms and you have access to the MBay pool.

On my last trip we had a friend staying there in a suite. We went to visit and got a tour, it was amzaing! I would def do it, esp since its only for a couple nights. The only bad thing she had to say was she didnt get to explore as much as the strip as she would have liked because she was so far south. That wont be an issue for you though!

    Def do it!

Kit, I think once you stay at The Hotel you will wonder why you stayed at the tropicana. Although the tropicana was renovated I think MB and The Hotel are a step above the tropicana IMHO.

The MB pool is awesome, much larger than the trop pool.

I didn't read the TA reviews but to me the only downside to The Hotel is that it is a hike to get there from the strip.

Anyway, when you get back, give us a review and your opinions of the two hotels. Wish I had free stays at The Hotel, lol.

In any event, it should be a great stay, any stay in vegas is great.

Thanks again everyone for the feed back.

I actually got the free nights through my job because I actually am a travel agent and TheHotel is a hotel that is preferred however I have only sold it once so I didn't know much about it but hey it's free and I get to take a tour of the whole place.

I will give a review when I return home on the 8th and let you know what I think of it.

As far as the Trop I stayed there last year and had so much fun hanging out at the pool however we didn't gamble at all since I thought the casino was a bit small but we did have fun there.

I booked The Hotel a couple days ago. For those of you that don't know, the resort fee is in fact now $25.00!! :grrr:
