I know the weekend before can be pretty crazy and the week of, but how busy will the strip and Fremont be the week before that? I know they do things all month long with bands and haunts, never been there in Oct so really have no idea how busy it will be. We tend to go in the spring and early summer and not around holidays.

I've been in Vegas during Halloween for the past several years, mostly downtown, and can't say it's busier than other "holidays." I put holidays in quotes, as very few if any folks get Halloween off from work or can turn it into an extended weekend. Certainly, it's a fun time to be in Vegas, but it's not necessarily busier, especially the week prior. October, however, is one of the best months weather-wise to be in Vegas (or most other places in the northern hemisphere) anyway, so it's never a slow time. I'll be there again this year.

The week before and after are pretty slow. The actual day can end up being hectic, but usually not the days around it. Its because October is during the slow months in Vegas. You should be okay. I would highly recommend staying on FSE. The Fremont and Main Street station are great and affordable places to stay.

With Fremont east being so busy with bar crowds i am really thinking about the MSS or the Cal. We booked at the EL CO, but i am questioning the noise level. I have friends who think we should bring costumes...LOL I think that will be a no.

If your on the fence I would say don't do ElCo. Its really far from everything, the area can get sketchy at night. Don't get me wrong. The rooms have been revamped, but the entire property has not seen the same TLC. The Boyd gaming properties are all well taken care of and they really take good care of the guests. I've stayed at all their downtown properties and for low noise and a peaceful stay I'd say MSS. The rooms at MSS are large, comfy beds, LCD tv and a mini fridge. If you book now, directly thru Boyd you can get a steal of a rate for Halloween.

Keep in mind the new Life Is Beautiful festival is running downtown on Oct. 26/27. Lots of bands, and people!

Here's a 2 year old post about our first (and probably last) stay at the El Co:

"After six nights at the Orleans and Suncoast, we spent our final night at the ElCo primarily to see if we'd consider staying there on future trips. Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding NO! Oh, the room was fine, as was the casino, coffee shop, staff, particularly the limo driver, etc., it's just that we're kind of used to sleeping at night.

We stayed on the 14th floor facing south and were awakened by a loud thump, thump, thump round 2 am Monday morning! Turning on the fan and TV helped only slightly and the racket didn't abate until around 4 am. As we learned later, the obnoxious noise emanated from outside speakers at the Azul Tequila nightclub. The hotel is used to getting such complaints and explained that noise ordinances were initially waived to help encourage new business development in the Fremont East Entertainment District. A quick Google search revealed "the rest of the story." Check it out, especially reports from the LV Sun; it's quite interesting.

Thankfully, we were there only the one night. I'd post a largely positive review of the ElCo and would love to add it to our stay-at list, but for us the noise is a deal breaker."

Maybe things have changed since I wrote that, and possibly a room on the other side of the hall might work out better, but it's definitely something you might want to look into if you also prefer sleeping at night. Good luck!

With the It's a beatiful life event going on that weekend i think i will use my Myvegas coins on getting comp rooms on the strip. If we can't get strip rooms then it's either MSS or the CAL. I did get that offer from the nugget, but not sure i want to pay their entertainment fee or whatever it is they call it.

My wife's cousin is going to the life is beautiful event. If the crowd in downtown that weekend is anything like her cousin, I would avoid that part of downtown at all cost lol.

That fee from GN is bull, most of the other casinos chip in like they do to cover the cost of running FSE, yet no one else passes the cost onto guests.

There is quite a bit of stuff downtown that i want to do on this trip. It should make for some great photo ops and video. I can't even begin to think about it, knowing that trying to plan anything is a bad idea..LOL

What kind of stuff? Perhaps I may have some answers in terms of photo ops. I'm a semi pro photographer and spend most of my non gambling time with dslr in hand and gear strapped to my back lol.

I was hoping to hit some of the haunts up. Maybe go out to spring preserve or other places that will have fall or Halloween events going on. I know they had an Alice Cooper cover band last year on Fremont and i have seen some other videos that looked like fun. Will miss the parade of course, but i am thinking that with only four days i will have more than a few choices of events to go to.

Another question about Halloween and Vegas. Will the shops have any Halloween related items? Budget wise i would like to know because i love to buy souvenirs and if i know i can get Halloween related stuff i will need to figure that into my budget. I know it's an odd question but it would help me to plan ahead. I am thinking i will find most of my stuff DT.

Gotcha. Sounds simple enough. The haunted house primm puts on is amazing! And the haunted 13th floor at Circus Circus is pretty great too.

Some of them might. I've seen regular halloween stuff, but I've never seen vegas themed / branded Halloween stuff. Now you've got me wondering lol.

Yeah, We are Halloween fanatics looking to do Halloween related stuff in our favorite city. Is the 13th floor at Circus different than Fright Dome? and how so? Also, does anyone know if the Wax museum still does a lights out tour in Oct?

Jade 88: If it isn't a closely guarded secret, where did you find the color codes for your Halloween-themed countdown timer? Most appropriate!
