    My Trip Report

    Friday, September 27
Left at 6am and arrived at the Palms at 9:30am. Was surprised that they had the room ready. We were booked on a free two night room comp my husband, Scott, was offered, but it was just for a Fantasy Tower Superior room (the cheapest room in the house these days). Took our luggage up to 16-215 – okay room, showing a little wear, but fine. View looking out to the window right was of Rio and north strip.

Went down to the players club to find out about car wash and movie tickets benefits for AllStar tier that I earned on our September 2 visit. Car wash is currently not working, but they gave me a token anyway. You have to get a comp slip through a host to get the movie tickets (which we ended up not using). Also had the $25 for $40 slot play coupons added to our players card.

Left a message for a friend we were meeting for lunch and then hit the casino until it was time to go see her and her family. I was trying to be good playing 9/6 JOB and 8/5 BP 3/5 play, but then the hubby was playing DDB next to me and I caved and switched over. In the half hour or so we played before leaving for lunch we were each down $300 plus the $40 free play. Not a good start.

We met our friends at Mandalay Bay, redeemed our MyVegas reward for 2 free buffets, and enjoyed a nice lunch. The food was decent, but the company a lot better. After lunch, my friend’s family and hubby went off to the Jackson Barrett show and my friend drove me back to the Palms. I sat at the same bank of 3/5 play machines again and started playing. Since we were on Scott’s offer I began playing a second machine next to me when it opened up using Scott’s card. After a little while holding 4 hearts to the royal I got it on one line!

Shortly after that on my machine, holding 3 hearts to the royal I got another one!

And a bit later on the same machine, holding 2 spades to the royal I got a third one and the last one of the day!

I should’ve stuck to the quarter 3/5 play machines, but I stupidly decided to go play 9/6 JOB dollar single-line. I was getting absolutely nothing and decided to switch to 9/6 DDB, but that wasn’t being generous, either. I pretty much lost the days profit. (Bad degenerate gambler!)

Coin in on my card for the day was $33,657 and Scott’s was around $12,000 (didn’t get a card read before he played a little when we first got there and I was stuck at Club Palms).

We were finally hungry at around 8pm and decided to try Nove Italian. I had a Prosecco ($11), Scott had a Sambuca with coke back ($11), we had 2 bottles of Voss water ($18), and we shared the following food: Panzanella salad ($14), Chicken Parm ($29), Rigatoni Bolognese ($25), and Nana’s meatballs (2 meatballs in sauce $11). It was a little pricey for Italian food, but it was absolutely wonderful and way too much food for two people to finish (we couldn’t). I haven’t been drinking for quite a while and that one glass really got to me (and didn’t make me feel too great in the middle of the night). We played just a little bit before heading up for the night.

    Saturday, September 28
Scott was going to play golf at Legacy today, so we got a 7:30am wakeup call, got ready for the day, and headed to Café 24/7 for breakfast. He had an omelet ($10.50 with Club Palms card), I had the Lucky 777 breakfast special (10pm to 10am: $5.99), and with 1 coke ($3), 1 coffee ($3), and 1 orange juice ($4) the bill came to $28.64 with tax. During breakfast Scott decided NOT to play golf after all since the course was being over-seeded and he didn’t want to be frustrated. So, he picked up materials for the business and did a little window-shopping around town before coming back to the casino to spend the rest of the day playing side-by-side with me. I had started playing the slant top 3/5/10 plays in front of the hotel check-in area right after he left and had been playing two machines, so he took over one of those. He was hitting Aces right and left, but never got a kicker on ANY hand (Aces or 2s, 3s, 4s – neither did I all day – weird). We were having a lot of fun, both of us actually having cocktails while playing (we never do that – Palms serves a delicious Lemon Drop shot at the machines, though). Towards the end of a long day of play I was dealt 4 to the royal in clubs and picked one up for the final royal of the trip!

We quit playing around 6:30pm and decided to give N9ne steakhouse a try. We really went off the deep-end with food this weekend and ordered a bunch of things to share: Stuffed Shrooms (mushrooms stuffed with king crab and gruyere $19), lobster bisque ($19), wedge salad ($14), surf & turf (filet & Maine lobster $64), Mac & Cheese side (the best I’ve ever had anywhere $12), and one Crème Brulee for dessert ($12). With 1 bottle of Voss water ($9), 1 Lemon Drop ($16 – ridiculous), 1 Sambuca ($12), and coke back ($3) the bill was $194.58 with tax. This was likely the best steakhouse meal we’ve ever eaten anywhere. Service was impeccable, but the room was quite loud (with a DJ). We left there saying we’d definitely go back, but what happened later may change that idea.

All of the play today was on my card -- $46,630 coin in (made it to MVP tier this trip). Went to see the host on duty around 11pm to see what we could get comped off of the bill since we were getting up at 6:30am to get on the road early and I knew there wouldn’t be a host available then. With $80k coin in on my card he said my THEO was only $1600 (WTF? – Palms must rate pretty low or have things changed that much in the last couple years?). My actual loss was $2600 (yes, I hit 4 royals and still lost – I know, degenerate). He (Geno Pacini) said he would have them put a note on our room account stating he would comp off $500 of our bill (we didn’t even have that much on there).

Went up to bed and woke up in the middle of the night sick as a dog. We started eating a Paleo diet the end of January (have lost 45 pounds so far) and dairy (except for eggs) is not on the normal home menu for us anymore, so eating all we did at dinner didn’t sit at all well. Awful. I won’t say any more about that. LOL

At check-out there was no note on our account about the comp! (So pissed.) They left the account open until a host could check it out. I spoke with Wai-Mei Borge when we got home and she said she would take care of it. Now I just have to wait and see what hits my credit card (we charged tips to the room, too). I have NO offers from the Palms, but she said I have been invited to the VP/BJ tourney Oct 18 – 20 (anyone know if it’s common to not get mailers when you have offers from them?).

Boring trip report – sorry! I pretty much just gambled the whole time (and ate).

    Thanks for reading!

P.S. I included prices for food in case anyone was interested in putting one of these restaurants on your list for an upcoming trip.

P.P.S. Sorry the pics are so huge -- I don't know how to make them smaller!

Boring trip report???? I don't think so! Loved all the RF pics. Was about to type I was shocked you still had loss with all of them but then I remembered several years back getting a RF, which netted me a $40 loss for the trip. At least you got a lot of coin through and hope they get the host comp right for you.
    Thanks for posting!

    Thanks!

I'll post what happens with the host/bill as soon as I know.

I'm glad it wasn't as boring as I thought. :)

Never boring when you're hitting Royals like that. I've always liked Palms for VP, but I miss those great DDB Progressives that used to be lined up right as you entered the main doors. Congrats on the Royals.

Also, always wanted to try N9ne, but never had the guts to spend that much for dinner.

Yeah, Palms doesn't value vP players the way that they used to...
and that's INSANE! Hitting $4000 worth of Royals and STILL came home down $2600 out of your OWN pocket! (that's literally $6600 worth of loss on ~$100k coin-in)
and especially since you were playing multiplay...just wow...

I gotta say that if we hadn't gotten the dinner at N9ne comped it would have been worth it anyway. It seriously was the best steakhouse dinner we've ever had (and we've eaten at a lot of nice steakhouses, especially in Vegas). And I'm sure if we hadn't been eating so clean prior to this trip we wouldn't have suffered the gastrointestinal problems afterward! (LOL)

I'm pretty new to actually playing at the Palms (other than a couple drop in trips years ago), so I don't remember those machines. I do like the selection of machines they have, though. I stopped at a few slot machines this trip that I didn't include in the report just to make me look a LITTLE more valuable to the casino.

Yes, totally insane losing that much after hitting 4 royals. I know -- total degenerate stuff there!

I remember your great trip reports from LVA. Nice to see your name and reports again. I'll be at the Palms in a few days and I appreciate the info on dining. I should have been on the diet but I put it off for another 10 years or so. Warren always said "I'll sleep when I'm dead" I'll just say, I'll diet when I'm dead.
    Congrats on 4 Royals.

Thanks for taking time to post your report - good to see you back online sharing Vegas stories!

Gotta love multiple royal days! Good reminder for everyone about the volatility of DDB VP...

Thanks! I hope to have good things to write about in upcoming reports!

Have fun at the Palms! Wish I were going back there soon, too. :)

Yes, it's definitely a good reminder regarding the volatility of DDB!

That DDB will eat you alive sometimes, even if you hit royals. If you play it a lot, you also must hit some of the quads with kickers or it's tough to stay ahead. I try to stick with JOB when playing at the Palms but every so often get a little bored and switch over to DDB for a while. Sometimes it ends well and sometimes it doesn't! Once had Aces with kicker dealt on a 5 play quarter machine for a quick $2500! That was fun but continually getting dealt 2 pair and not converting into full houses adds up pretty quick too as you only get even money.

If you hit 4 royals playing only JOB, you would most certainly come home a winner. I know it's hard and DDB is definitely more exciting!

Wow, nice hit! I'd like to see those dealt kicker aces myself. :)

I actually did play quite a bit of JOB and BP the first day, too, but got nothing. All of the royals came on DDB. Then it was hard to go back to JOB or BP! lol

justmare: It's never boring reading about royals and especially with such huge pictures to share. It's hard to believe that you could have still lost, but that multiplay can eat into your bankroll if you aren't hitting lots of quads. I've not played much at the Palms, but I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't be thrilled to comp you as an incentive to return so they could get another bite of your wallet. Whatever happens, it sounds like you had a fun trip. Thanks for writing. -- Lorna

    Thanks, Lorna.

I don't have any mailed offers from the Palms yet, but I did contact Wai-Mei Borge again yesterday and asked her if I would qualify for a NYE/NYD 2 night comp. She said yes and booked my stay for me. She said she would try to put us into a party.

I would actually like to have a little more than just an upfront room comp, so we'll see if I get anything in the mail. (I'm not used to graveling to a host to get a free room!)
