    I've heard it now.........too much.....
I know it became wide spread about a year ago.
    It's everywhere.....now.
Honestly ?.........what the hell are you talking about ?......just stop.
    Sportswriters + GM's started it.
Sportswriters = to explain what they see + can't explain
GM's = to give a reason for a strange signing or unfavorable draft pick.
Now.....even the dumb jocks are using it....in their interviews.

    Athleticism ?.......?....
"I am not a standout, at one particular part of the game, but I have athleticism"
"Our team can't shoot/hit/pass/score/win.....the other team is better...but we have athleticism."

When will it end ?.........Jockdom Rules !

    'Epic' post.

Maybe at least now they will stop saying key this, key that all the time. Using new overused words is key.

You're lamenting the (over/mis)use of a word yet you structure sentences like that all the time? Pot, meet kettle. :evillaugh

But you are on to something.

Soundbites and snippets. The viewing public wants something short and sweet, digestible. After it's been chewed on a few too many times, it becomes indigestible, and shortly something new that is short and sweet comes into vogue. And it's also easier for the jocks, whose athleticism obviously causes a lot of brain drain to be properly fueled.

A great voice and a great line from way back when: Frank Broyles and his "sooooo-perior atha-lete" bit. A Saturdays-in-fall classic.

I guess physicality ran its course. A close second offense and defense straw-tee-jury. I love sports.

I just turn the sound off. Cant take listening to the sports casters of today, with very few exceptions. How I long for the days of Marty Glickman , Curt Gowdy, Lindsey Nelson, Bob Murphy Ralph Kiner , Keith Jackson et al

What word do you want them to use? Athleticism seems the perfect word to explain the high round draft pick that can run the 40 the fastest but can't play football worth a damn.

A few days ago I was listening to golf talk on sat radio. Lou Holtz was asked about drafting or recriuting players based on athleticism. He said he wasn't concerned about that compared to how they could play football!

    Good Luck!

There is that. Football smarts. Choose the best "athlete" or the guy or gal more likely to be the best player.
