We are currently booked at the Linq for our April trip. We wanted to split up our stay on opposite ends of the strip starting off at comped room at Luxor. We just got an Mlife offer for a discounted price at MGM. Should we cancel our Linq reservations and switch to MGM for the second half of our trip? We have stayed at MGM before and loved it but trying to decide if we should just stay at the Linq so that we can experience a different part of the strip for the second half of our stay. We would be saving $75 staying at MGM.

I would stay at the Linq, but it depends what you want out of your hotel. For me it is just a room and I use it to sleep. If you use things like room service and the pool, MGM will be significantly better.

I know I tend to want to be around my hotel for the later evenings rather than take a cab back at 3am. So since I like gambling in different areas, I like staying in 2 separate areas.

The Linq is now very nice with remodeled room. Great location with the Linq complex and much close by. No brainer to me. :)

There are a lot of new things to see at the north end of the strip. The LINQ has lots of new stores/restaurants/bars and attractions.

Buy a monorail pass (you can take it from MGM to Bally's, The Linq and other casinos) for a few days and keep the difference in savings. MGM is a nice hotel, but if your rate is for West Wing rooms, pay the extra $10-$20 and upgrade to a room in their regular towers.

The Linq updated their rooms, and if you go that route, you shouldn't be disappointed. I never thought I'd see the day when MGM rooms were cheaper than IP/Linq rooms - perhaps they are partially comped. The new promenade by the Linq is nice, so save some time to check it out. Even with all of the upgrades at The Linq, the MGM is a much nicer resort - the rooms, the dining, the gambling, the pool, etc..

    Not enough info to decide.
Are you looking to receive comps for future trips? If so, what games do you play and what budget do you have?
As mentioned above, are you looking for amenities like the pool?
What about shows and if you have any MyVegas points to use.

First thought is: Luxor and MGM Grand are both MLife properties - if you are staying on a comp offer at Luxor then you likely will not be able to book the MGM Grand comped nights.

Beyond that, I would split the stay: thats what we do now where we spend half our nights at Monte Carlo or Aria and then the other half of our nights somewhere with a more central location.

We do that for just what you were thinking: each part of The Strip has a different feel and atmosphere to it and it can be nice to just change things up a little bit and do some different stuff.

I would try to keep the Linq reservation and change the Mlife comp from staying at the Luxor to staying at the MGM. The MGM is better than Luxor in every possible way. Staying at the Linq will be a nice different experience. You'll also be able to compare CET vs MGM Resorts for future stays. But then again, just shooting from the hip because I have no idea what's important to you when making a choice for a hotel (pool, casino atmosphere, dining options, drink service, club or no club, etc.)

I'd keep the Linq reservation. The MGM and Luxor are practically across the street from one another. Not worth changing hotels and only going across the street - to me at least.

MGM is where I stay every time. You can mix it up outside on the strip however you want. Monorail it, cabs, foot traffic. Whatever you want, but I always sleep in an MGM bed.
Same resort fee for both (I think).

i've stayed at both and would highly recommend the linq. Linq has a really great new vibe, the rooms are really nice and I love the location more than anywhere else. You're going to earn better comps with Total Rewards as well

Thanks for all of the feedback. It seems like the best choice would be to mix it up and stay at the other end of the strip at the Linq and take advantage of what's going on with that end of the strip. MGM is a really nice hotel and we were only thinking of changing or reservation because of the good deal we we're offered and because of all the construction that we heard was going on at the Linq. Staying at Luxor and then MGM being so close didn't seem to make sense. We tried changing from luxor to MGM for our Luxor dates but the prices were just not the same. Can't wait for Vegas!

Can't recommend the Yard House at the Linq enough, make sure to get some food and drinks there. Nicely priced and great selection.

That's tough, I LOVE MGM. I'm still apprehensive about LINQ even though it's remodeled... and aren't the rooms tiny? and even though it's "remodeled" it's still really old...

    But that location is wonderful..

April? You have to consider the pools. MGMs pool complex is damn impressive!

I would alternate between the Luxor/MGM and the LinQ. The rooms may be smaller than Luxor/MGM but the redesign of the rooms makes it seem bigger. The LinQ has Wi-Fi in the room as well as Fridges. The LinQ also has 47" TV's.
The new pool at the LinQ, which is supposed to be done in the Spring, is much better than before (anyone who has stayed at at Imperial Palace knows what i mean). There is a contact # on the LinQ website if you're inquiring about the pool.
I am staying at the LinQ the end of May, so the pool should be done by then, however, the pool season starts in April, so you may be in luck. If not, i'm sure the Flamingo pool will be available for the LinQ guests if not open yet.
Still waiting for some recent photos of the LinQ pool to gauge how much longer it will take.

But heather..........the rooms at MGM are older than Imperial Palace. I stayed there in the late 70's, the rooms date back to 1975. Imperial Palace didn't come on board till 1979.
OK, well, the rooms were part of the Marina Hotel and MGM was where Bally's is now, but that's beside the point......LOL.

You would be saving money by staying at the MGM?

Why is this even a question?

Paying more money to stay at The Linq would be insane.
