Another baking company will almost assuridly buy the recipe and naming trademarks on all of Hostess' most popular items. The Twinkie is not going to disappear.

I like the Oreo's better anyway. Now if Nabisco goes broke, we are doomed!

I wondered about this, too. There have been generic Twinkies manufactured in the past, not sure if they still are, but I'm guessing Mermaids can still get some form of a Twinkie from somebody, and I tend to agree that somebody will take over the brand and add it to their stable of snacks foods.

Little Debbies has some similar products in their lineup. The Cloud Cakes are a smaller version of the Twinkie. I would probably try a deep fried Nutty Bar if Mermaids worked the Little Debbie's lineup.

I am trying to understand the hysteria though. Hostess makes some of the most unhealthy food ever. Their business has been spiraling down because we are more and more aware of how unhealthy their products are. I loved their fruit pies but I gave them up ages ago when I knew better. They really didn't do a good job in remaking their image after public awareness of trans fats. If all the people running around buying up Hostess at exorbitant prices had been regular customer all this time that they had been on the rocks, maybe this wouldn't be happening. I know they want to blame the strike and all that jazz but this has really been a ling death spiral.

Have been with two friends on separate occasions that had one. Both times, the person inhaled the powdered sugar off of it and coughed out a huge mess all over themselves and the floor. It was hysterical. We started calling them "dusty twinkies".

I guess it will be the $99 dollar twinkie now.

Either that or the .99 cent deep fried golden snack cake.

Either way i hope they have something because i plan on eating christmas dinner at mermaids.

They have had them at the Minnesota State Fair for years. I think I heard about them here before I ever knew they existed in Vegas... they probably originated on the state fair circuit.

In Minnesota, (and probably elsewhere,) half the marketing gimmick of state fair foods is serving it on a stick. It's a tired cliche. Mention "on a stick" to three-quarters of Minnesotans and they'll immediately think state fair.

I'm guessing the deep-fried Twinkie has been served on a stick at our state fair, alongside the Oreos and everything else they can manage to serve on a stick. (I tried the chocolate-covered jalapenos this past summer: not good. And yes, they shoved a stick through the jalapenos.)

I spend more than a few days at the fair every year, unfortunately. And for all the days I'm out there, I eat very little state fair food. My rule: if it's deep fried or on a stick, I'm not interested. (Yes, I did try the jalapenos, in part because I got an order of them free. And I did have a pronto pup, which is different than a corn dog. That's another story.)

Count me among those who have never had the deep-fried Twinkie. I overeat, I eat unhealthy stuff, but somehow deep-fried sugary foods have yet to appeal to me.

Twinkie fans, hold off on buying those $50 10-count boxes on Ebay!

Judge has ordered all sides back to the table.

    Film at 11. :)

That seems like a definitive answer from the source and is good a place as any to close this.
