For those of you that have been to these places, which do you prefer, and why? Looking for pro's and cons to each. I have only been downtown once, and only for a few hours, never to stay there. The girls and I have decided we like the atmosphere of fremont street over the strip...and will just take the bus if we want to head down there. We are also wondering about lounges, or bars with outdoor seating at night where we can drink, visit, and take in the light shows for 3-4 hours. Also quiet indoor lounges where 6-10 of us can sit and visit while kickin back a few beers.
FEELS GREAT TO BE BACK HERE!!

The D has more vanity space for your make-up, etc. than the bathroom in the Fremont.

The rooms in the D are more modern and have been refreshed more recently. The bathroom in the Fremont is TINY, but I have a tiny bathroom in my own home, so I'm pretty used to it. The layout of the bathroom makes use of the limited space. I think the rooms at Fremont are cozier and more homey, IMO. I haven't spent a lot of time in the D Casino, but plan to on my upcoming trip. The Fremont casino is one of my favorites when visitng downtown.

Enjoy your stay! I'm a downtown lover as well. If only I could convince more of my friends, as they ALWAYS want to stay on the strip.

I like both, but as others have said the D is a more spacious and modern room. I recently posted a review of the Fremont hotel rooms on my site with a couple of photos if you want more details. Short version: I'd stay again at the Fremont but only alone.

As for outside bars, I really like the newest which is the Patio Bar outside of Four Queens. Great drink service and you get a front row seat of the Fremont Street Experience, cover band right next door, and the crazies wandering Fremont.

Outdoor seating at night with great cocktails but no view of the light show can be had at the Golden Nugget pool

Fremont is great if you're each in your own room. If you're sharing, you want the D.

    Have Fun!

Finally have the room booked! Look for me Feb 21-23

Fremont rooms are nice but a bot smaller then the d rooms. Bathrooms are much smaller at Fremont so this might be a concern.

There are very few outside seats for the light show. i would say maybe 20 seats total on all of fremont street. Knowing this you can pretty much scrub the idea of visiting and enjoying the light show while sitting in a relaxed place. Its just not available.

they have a place at the gn and at binions with the few seats available but the music can be really loud and the seats are always packed.

The Vue bar at the D no longer has outdoor seating, just standing room.

i dont know about gold diggers at gn. They have a balcony but i have never been there.

THe D's rooms are fresh and bright, nice flat screen tvs, large vanity, comfy beds. In room coffee makers cost 2.50 for k-cup......Mcdonald's good cheap coffee downstairs.

I second the recommendation of Golden Nugget pool area to sit and relax. While not indoors, it is pretty quiet, and I love the sounds of the waterfall. They usually play decent music, and have fire pits to keep you warm. Nice couches and comfortable chairs.

    The D for sure

I think the "D" has friendlier employees and better customer service then the Fremont. Cocktail service seems a little bit better at the "D" as well. Finally, I enjoy watching the pole dancing girls while gambling at the "D".

As far as watching the FSE I believe Gold Diggers at Golden Nugget has a balcony where you can party while watching the experience.
Indoor bars that are excellent to enjoy drinks at would be The Griffin and Downtown Cocktail Room.

Insert Coins is also great if you like to play video games and get drunk simultaneously.

have stayed at both a couple of times and my only small complaint about the fremont is they have shutters on the windows and if you like to have a nap when it`s light outside you still get a lot of light in the room when the shutters are closed.

The remodeled rooms have new mattresses which are as good as any I've had in vegas. Sign in the room says they are made for the D and have information if you want to order one.

We've been staying at the D continuously since 2000 so can't really say how the Fremont rooms are.

    I choose the "D"

I choose the "D"... the rooms are nicer, the comps are much better when you play there than those at Boyd Casinos... the Stardust was great for comps, but since it's demise, they are very stingy with anything but room comps... very little free play for what you spend. The "D" rewards you very well for playing there with great offers for your next trip and usually something off of your charges for this trip...
    ---
Since there is a group of "girls" going, why not email or write and ask if they "can do anything for your group"... sometimes they will give you free rooms and/or free play.
    ---
I believe you will fall in love with downtown... everything is so close that you can change casinos with very little effort... also there is good entertainment available at The "D", Four Queens and Nugget among others.
    ---
Spend one evening at Hugo's at Four Queens, for a moderately priced "elegant dinner"... we always go there at least once during our trips... they really treat ladies right... starting with a long stemmed rose for each.. I've even gone there solo and was treated very nicely!
    ---
Have fun... wish I was there, too!!!

I have never stayed at the Fremont but stayed at the D when it was still Fitzgerald's. I was with my son and it was comfortable and that was before they replaced or upgraded the elevators (I never thought they were slow and stayed on the top floor), remodeled, etc. Those staying recently seem to be happy with the new management. It was a Holiday Inn and so was up to that standard.

I think the best deal downtown is El Cortez, prices are great through brokers like EasyClickTicket, or Booking.com etc just check at Kayak.com. I love the Tower rooms where I will be in may for $78 for 3 nights including a saturday, all taxes and no resort fee. I have stayed there before as low as $21 for the Tower and $11 for the Vintage rooms. Staff is great, they shuttle you to the airport, the restaurants are good, rooms are clean and very well maintained whether it is new and expensive or old and cheap. Many folks here like the 4 Queens too. So far, I have stayed at Fitz's (Now the D), and several times at the Gold Spike (poor GS), and the El Cortez. I woundn't hesitate to stay at any of these again either.

The 'D' has K cup machines in the room now, too? Was happy to see that at the Nugget so I brought my own K cups. Have some left over to use in a few weeks at the D now!
