For close to 30 years, I have been hearing Ric Ocasek sing about

    "Ornengeen skies,

    But's away, it's a gonna die,

    It's just a broken alibi,

    bye, bye love..."

I'm pretty sure that that is not right.

I can't feel this way much longer
    Expecting to survive
    With all these hidden innuendoes
    Just waiting to arrive
    It's such a wavy midnight
    And you slip into insane
    Electric angel rock and roller
    I hear what you're playin'

    It's an orangy sky
    Always it's some other guy
    It's just a broken lullaby
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love

    Substitution mass confusion
    Clouds inside your head
    Involving all my energies
    Until you visited
With your eyes of porcelain and of blue
    They shock me into sense
    You think you're so illustrious
    You call yourself intense

    It's an orangy sky
    Always it's some other guy
    It's just a broken lullaby
    Bye bye love
    Bye g-bye love
    Yeah bye bye love
    Bye bye love-ov-ov-ove

    Substitution mass confusion
    Clouds inside your head
    Well foggin' all my energies
    Until you visited
With your eyes of porcelain and of blue
    They shock me into sense
    You think you're so illustrious
    You call yourself intense

    It's an orangy sky
    Always it's some other guy
    It's just a broken lullaby
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love
    Bye bye love

@snidely - yeah, but he married one of the prettiest girls in the world (at least she was when he married her).

I always thought the words "broken alibi" was actually "F.u.C...N Alibi"

The song was written by Ocasek, but was actually sung by Benjamin Orr (RIP - died about 10 or so years ago)

I think that album goes down as one of the classic's of all time. My favorite is "Moving In Stereo"

I love that song and The Cars too, but I couldn't understand half of those words.

    Thanks, kittyglitter.

    The correct answer is C.

Name the best rock band from Boston?

    A. Aerosmith
    B. Boston
    C. The Cars
    D. The J. Geils Band

ugh now you realize I'm going to have to listen to the Cars now on Spotify. I remember I was about 10 years old back in the early 80s and ordered all of their cassettes from Columbia Record House for just 1 Penny! [until i realized that I needed to buy a few more at full price later on]... but shit, when those tapes came in the mail. The shininess, the smell of the tapes, and that goddam music. I can point to those Cars albums as what turned me onto punk on underground music. Great band, never got the credit they really should have.

I would have to put them in this order:
    Aerosmith
    J. Geils
    The Cars and Boston (tie).

I've seen Aerosmith several times since 1976, but definitely a highlight seeing them in Vegas about 4 years ago. Going to miss them by a couple of weeks this time.

The only time I ever saw The Cars was at the Paradise in Boston when I lived about a block away. This had to be about 1978. They opened for Rick Derringer (who opened for Aerosmith the first time I saw them). New Wave hadn't really taken hold yet and I don't think their first album was even out yet; they got a lot of quizzical looks and catcalls.

    J. Geils always put on a good show.

    Boston, never saw them live.

Ocasek was the producer of Weezers first album, the blue album and he also did their 3rd I think it was, the green album.

    THIS.
Saw the Cars a couple of times.
I like their music and have all their albums.
Not a very appealing live band. Very robotic, sounded just like you were listening to the album. Nothing memorable.

J Geils...OH YES!, a consummate live band. They used to bring their "A" game every night and left it all out on the stage.
Peter Wolf, one of the greatest front men ever.
You never forget a J Geils concert, no matter how long ago it was.

Aerosmith......just real classic rock......that is until they started putting out cotton-candy-sugar-coated fluff like "I don't want to miss a thing" (from the movie Armageddon) :vomit:

    Ranked-
Aerosmith and J Geils - tie for the top
Boston and The Cars - tied for 3rd.

I considered putting them in my question, but didn't think many would have heard of the band.

Haven't seen The Cars live, had seen Aerosmith live a few times and while I liked the concerts, I don't have the desire to see them again (especially after hearing Tyler's National Anthem). I guess the main reason for my preference of The Cars, is if I could only have one of the two on a desert island, I like Cars songs (the number of songs and quality of songs) better, and beyond Dream On and a few other songs, Aerosmith lands in my meh category. I really liked the J Geils band and wished I seen them back in the day.

I do acknowledge Aerosmith is more widely known/followed, and I can see why people may like the band more. They have a broader range of songs and they've been around a lot longer (front and back end).

Best Comedian from Boston - Good options include Conan, Leno, Dane Cook, Dennis Leary), but I like Steven Wright the best, with the late John Pinette second choice. If the comic insult dog qualified, it may be the GOAT from any state or country. :)
