We got back Tuesday from a few days in Reno and one in Las Vegas. I've read a number of times on LVMB about people using $2 bills as tips. This trip I remembered to pick up 25 of them at the bank before we left. I can confirm what others have said - they are a hit with the cocktail servers and consequently seemed to draw better service.

We typically tip $1 a drink anyway, so when my wife and I order it's generally a couple of dollar bills or $1 chips. Since no one uses $2 bills, the ones from the bank were brand new. Most times I gave one to a server she'd comment on it, generally that she liked them. I always joked that I'd just printed them that morning. Using them seemed to distinguish us in their minds, and our cocktail service overall was better than I can ever recall. I'll definitely be doing it from now on.

I think I will do the same. I often tip $2 but usually using 2 brand new singles. I'll give this a try.

I don't know if the servers cared but I liked using them. When I went to the bank to get them. they initially told me they didn't have any but they really just didn't have new ones. The ones they gave me were barely circulated. The plus for the tipper is that they take up so much less space in your wallet, especially compared to singles that have been handled over and over. $2 bills will be my new norm.

the real question is how was your luck?

a lot of people consider them bad luck.

who cares about good cocktail service if you get raped in the casino.

I've been using $2 bills for a long time in Vegas. Funny, my bank rarely has many on hand so I always have them order for me. Same issue with foreign currency but geez these are US bills, shows how much the are ignored. Great for tipping though, good reminder for me to get my order in for my trip next week. Ordering many times gets you new bills or at least very lightly circulated.

Does anybody still think they're bad luck? Or that was so long ago it's a novelty now? I dunno. I'm asking.

I thought it was $50s that were bad luck.

    Shifter,

Never knew they were supposed to be bad luck, so maybe not knowing reversed the curse. We had better luck on this trip than all but one. Our winnings paid for the trip, we accumulated some decent comps and player's club tier upgrades, and put $500 or so in the bank over what we'd taken. All while (me anyway) drinking enough to wish someone would invent a prosthetic liver!

A few years ago I ordered a $400 stack of $2 Bills from my bank. It took a few days to come in but they were brand spanking new and nice and crisp.
I've always gotten a positive response from them. Everyone genuinely seems to love receiving them as tips or gifts. I still have at least 30 bills left.
I will have to say that for me I think $50's are bad luck. The last time I went to Vegas my bank didn't have $100's and I was stuck with $50's and Took a Beating!
If my bank says they do not have any $100's for my next trip then I will leave and go to another branch. No $100's? Pure Laziness on the Tellers part if you ask me!
    NEVER AGAIN!

Lol. A few years ago my bank didn't have enough 100's for me. I had to go to three or four branches to get enough. Now I call a few days before to make sure they hold some for me.

My sister and I have taken two dollar bills to Vegas for tip money for many years. There is one server at the Cortez that always remembers us and saves the bills to give to her grandchildren. They really do make an impression when tipping with them. Another benefit is that our tip money isn't as bulky as bringing all single bills for tips.

There are times when my bank doesn't have any or not enough. Knowing this, I typically go to the bank several weeks before a trip.

A few trips ago my bank couldn't give me all 100's and asked if I minded some of the withdrawal in 50's and I said sure. Driving out of the parking lot I thought that was a bad idea and drove to a different branch of my bank to get 100's. I had a winning trip so it worked.

I used the $2 bill last trip.... and had a winning trip. I am a trend setter apparently!

It was neat. I had a slot attendant who helped me give me a hug when I handed her a Jefferson. It made her day.

When was a kid, I remember my father having trouble using $2 bills at some local stores. The cashiers had never seen them before and thought they were funny money. This was back in the mid 60s. I don't know when $2 bills were first printed.

I think they were started back in the 1800's but the current style was first put in circulation about the 30's. they were a staple at racetracks for years.....

and yes, 50's are nice, but don't EVER take them to the track or gambling.

On a trip to Northern Island years ago a bartender asked me if I had ever seen a $2 bill. I had one in my wallet I always carried for luck and showed it to him.. He wanted it, really bad, so I had a LOT of free drinks the time I was there with him. Now I always carry a $2 bill with me.

My late uncle was a banker and as a child, he would hand out two dollar bills to all the children at family functions. One of my favorite childhood memories

My grandfather did the same thing. When I went to D.C. for vacation about 15 years ago we went to the US Mint and I bought an uncut sheet of 18 $2 bills that I have framed and up on the wall.

I love taking $2 bills just for the novelty. Heck, at a couple of places the server even asked if I wanted change...lol
