I’ve always hated topic threads that start with “tell me about,” yet I couldn’t resist. I’m like Woody Woodpecker.

So I’ll be in Vegas in less than two weeks. Things worked out to go for four nights the week before Thanksgiving, so I just booked a trip late last night. I was starting to doubt I’d make it this year. My first two nights will be at the Strat. I stayed there many moons ago. I packaged the room with airfare via Travelocity, as I shouldn’t need a room for Friday and Saturday night. (That’s still being finalized. I booked airfare on faith that it will work out to my advantage.)

I went cheap for Wednesday and Thursday night, relatively speaking. I typically stay at Orleans, but they haven’t shown me any love since I stayed there last Halloween, and the Strat was cheaper, even with the higher resort fee. The tower access seemed like a nice benefit, too. My girlfriend and I went up it once a couple of years ago, and it's one of those things I enjoy doing every few years, so it's a resort fee "perk" that actually has value for me.

I am curious if there’s anything in particular that I should request regarding our room, and what the experience has been of those who have stayed there. If your trip report included a stay at the Strat, if you’d be so kind to simply provide a link to it in a comment, I’ll certainly check it out. I’m going to be doing a lot of reading and catching up this w/e, when I finally get a chance. Now that Halloween is over, my seasonal security job at a local haunt is over, and I’ll actually have a Saturday night where I’m not on my feet.

Thanks in advance for anything you have to share.

We've stayed at the Strat two times, last time being in 2013. To put it short, we really like the Strat because your dollar goes a long way there. The place looks clean and fresh, the rooms are decent, service is great and they have some decent food options. Nothing extravagant, just middle of the road. The only thing that the Strat really has agianst it is the location but that's all I can come up with. I really believe the Strat doesn't get the credit it deserves most of the times.

I've got some recent pictures and a review of our stay there:

If you're staying at the Strat, you get free admission to the tower and 2-for-1 showtickets which actually is a pretty good deal. We've seen Pin Up and I've got a review about that too:

We also enjoyed a meal at Roxy's diner and I've got a review for that too:

    Hope this helps.

I actually liked the rooms, and they seemed remodeled to me. However the big downside for me was the gaming that all had terrible odds. Most Blackjack tables are 6:5 (if not all) and their video poker payouts were terrible. There also is no high limit room for bigger bettors.

I can imagine that being important in the decision making process. If you're a BJ or VP player, this might not be the best place for you to stay. I do like that they have a rather big poker room....

I like the reasonable prices and good food at Stratosphere 's restaurants. Yeah, there's the high-priced (but well worth it) Top of The World for an incredible meal. McCall's Steakhouse is less expensive but still pretty fancy.

For value: Roxy's Diner has American comfort food in a retro setting, Fellini's has very good Italian food and steaks, Tower Pizza has (you guessed it) pizza with pitchers of beer as well as sandwiches. There's a little Mexican restaurant tucked into the shops upstairs that has some of the best steak nachos I've had in LV. And, lastly, the McDonald's upstairs stays open 24/7.

Thanks for the info everyone. One of the reasons I enjoy staying at Orleans is the favorable gaming. They haven't offered me comped nights recently, and the Strat is cheaper than the Orleans for this trip, so I decided not to stay at Orleans. While I'd prefer to gamble where I stay, I'm only at the Strat for two nights and I'll have a rental car, so I will be on the move periodically. Since I don't intend to make the Strat a home base, I can live w/o gambling for the two nights I crash there.

I guess it might make a difference which casino games you prefer to play. We're mainly slot players and I can only say that the two times we stayed there, we ended up with more money in our pockets than we came with. First time we had a profit of $700 after 4 nights of play (3 to 4 hours every night). The second time we came out ahead about $200 after one night of gambling. We've had better luck at the Strat than at most other casinos down the Strip.

good to know. i'm not much of a slot player, but occasionally i will indulge, so perhaps i'll make that my game of choice at the Strat.

I did pretty good on the WOF machines on the left side of the main entrance to the casino (coming in) and the Quick Hits machines close to the reception.

We went to the Strat about 2 years ago. Honestly, we kind of liked it. It was around the time they were remodeling. The room was fresh amd clean. Nothing to write home about. But if you need a place to sleep and shower it's great. The coolest thing was we got to see the metro cops beat up on a couple of dirt bags that were trying to rob someone at knife point. Saw this from our window on the 14th floor. We had a view of naked city (which is the neighborhood in back of Strat. We also saw a guy break into a car on the top part of the parking structure. But he was caught by security riding around with a bicycle. Great stuff! It's a fun place overall. We had free tower access, went to the Air Bar, took some pictures. Definitely a memorable time. I think you'll like it.
