I will soon receive 12 weeks of severance pay and 5 weeks of unused vacation. I am trying to calculate how much I will net when all is said and done.

Here what's taken out of a standard paycheck: federal tax, Washington DC (local) tax, Social Security, Medicare, Dental , Vision, Medical, and Union dues.

How many of these things will be taken out of (a) my total severance check; and (b) my unused vacation check? Not sure if it's all, none, or some...?

Severance and PTO payout will use the supplemental rate which is 25%. You shouldn't have any deductions taken out on this type of check. Here's a link to a payroll calculator which should provide a rough estimate.
