I have Tapatalk on my phone to read the board and answer emails while I'm away from the computer. But I can't seem to make the jump.

Do you love it? How do you use it?

And most importantly - How do I get it to stop marking all the posts as read so when I get back here to my computer there are only like 15 new posts. :grrr:

I don't use it. I prefer using the regular board on my mobile browser.

This makes me nuts! I will be very grateful if someone has sorted out how to eliminate this "feature".

I mainly signed up to use the board on my phone as well so, I'm in the same boat.

Yeah, I've done that too, but moderating SUCKS doing it that way. Too many tiny little things you have to "click" on.

I've been pondering a software upgrade and some of them come with a mobile version. I just wondered if I wasn't giving Tapatalk enough of a try. (She says with the stupid, hot laptop on her lap instead of doing this on the phone.)

I just started using it. Makes it easy to read the board on my iphone and post faster but it doesn't allow you to click on links within posts. Or, at least it didn't for me.

Sonya, while I am still new to tapatalk, I do find it easier to upload photos so use it quite a bit here. For me it is a bit strange cuz I use both iPone and iPad and settings, controls seem different on both.

On your phone, have you played in the settings. On mine I see under Settings/Unread Behavior, can be toggled off, wonder if that will do trick for you.

In other note, I can click on links and it will open in safari browser

update: I turned OFF Unread Behavior and and read the post all the post under TI vs. Monte Carlo on phone. When I logged in here on computer it still showed the last post by Smartone as a new posts. Is that what you are looking for?

I thought I had dug through all the settings, but I'll go look for that Unread Behavior setting and try that. Thanks!

I tend to use Tapatalk only when I'm in a place where my cellphone is my primary internet connection, such as when dining out or when I'm walking around somewhere, including Vegas. But I've noticed some oddities, including dropped words in posts that are still there when I check the full site from my home computer. For example, an entire paragraph of the trip report that I posted today does not show up on Tapatalk (perhaps because I went back later to fix a typo?). It also doesn't do a great job of tallying the number of unread posts, in my experience.

I love tapatalk on my iPhone. On my iPad I go back to the regular form, but still use tapatalk at times.

I finally installed Tapatalk on my Android smartphone several days ago and just uninstalled it! While it looked pretty useful at first, I kept getting notified whenever anyone posted on any of the threads where I had posted. And yes, my Control Panel, "Options" / "Default Thread Subscription Mode" is set to the default "no email notification". Maybe there's another way, but since I was unable to stop this annoying "feature", I gave up and uninstalled the app.

A quick Google search shows VMB is not the only message board where folks are experiencing this problem. If anyone has had this same notification issue and solved it, please let me know how you did it and I'll try again.

I read this site exclusively using Tapatalk for iPhone. It's the best way to read on a mobile device.

I agree that Tapatalk is great for reading messages on a smartphone – it's those damn annoying notifications that were causing the problem! Don't you get them? Or maybe Tapatalk works differently on Androids.

I'm not sure what notifications you're seeing. There is a cookie-based notification when you read on your phone that Tapatalk is available. There are also the notifications of subscribed threads, etc that I think you're describing.

The second one can be turned off like this : Menu button>Settings>Notifications>Receive Notifications>Off

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks Sonya, but my "Default Thread Subscription Mode" was already set to "no email notification." The only place I see where you can set notifications to OFF is in the Private Messaging section. The phone had the same VMB settings as my main computer.

Being notified every time someone posted to a thread where I had posted was getting real annoying. Prior to installing Tapatalk, only Facebook and Gmail were setup to notify. As much as I love VMB, I don't need a few dozen "beeps" throughout the day!

Maybe I'll install Tapatalk again and check the phone's "Account and Sync" settings. I'm thinking that might fix things.

UPDATE: This could be premature, but I reinstalled Tapatalk; and after going through a lot more settings than I thought existed, I finally clicked on "Notification" that took me to a new page where I unchecked "Receive Notification". I hope that does it; and again, I thank you for helping.

I consider myself pretty darn savvy when it comes to my desktop running Win 7, but I'll admit that the Android usually has me baffled! :D

I am struggling with Tapatalk too, so don't feel bad. I like to think I can navigate the menus, but I keep thinking I've solved my problems to have new ones pop up.

My biggest problem is that it marks all messages as read and when I get back to the board on my computer I've got no new posts. I keep changing the settings to not mark them as read and it just keeps happening. :(
