I owe it to the group here. I would have never even thought of taking a bus from McCarran to downtown as it's only $2. I figured you get what you pay for.

Wrong. I was so wrong. You get a lot for $2.

Short version: If you time it right, this is the way to go - especially if you're traveling solo.

Long version with photos including the location of the hidden luggage stash area here: http://vegasdowntownreport.com/2013/07/11/wax-me-please/

    Thanks VMB for the suggestion!

I am on the WAX heading downtown right now, using VegasSteven's secret luggage storage space. There are only 3 other passengers on the bus with me. I'll be at 4th and Carson in 22 minutes.

    The Wax is great

So much more economical than taking a taxi!

Our experience exactly paralleled yours. Rode it both to DT and then back to the airport and had a great experience. The only issue, as you noted, is the time between runs. It would also be a really good way for anyone staying on that end of the Strip to get to/from DT for a day trip--much better than the Deuce of SDX. And, since we have a senior discount card, it only costs us $1 each/ride!

I've written before that I consider the WAX the single biggest improvement to Vegas in years! Ms. Gecko and I have ridden it dozens of times, most recently last Wednesday! Suncoast has become our favorite place to stay, and even though they offer free shuttle service between there and the airport (every 2 hours), we usually rely on the WAX and to go downtown. We have old fart cards too, and $1each with no tip sure beats an estimated $50 to go between Suncoast and McCarran.

I didn't know about the "hidden luggage stash area;" thanks for the tip. However, we usually sit on one of the side-facing seats near the front and slide the luggage under the seat or place it in front of us. The WAX has never been full enough that it presents a problem.

Ditto! I used it and then had my son meet me Downtown using the Wax. And they now have expanded the schedule 1 hour.

I always "WAX it" when in Vegas. I've been lucky (so far) since my arrival times at McCarran are always within 20 minutes of the WAX schedule.

I tried taking the WAX back to the airport from downtown early this evening. I waited at Fremont and Casino Center for the 6:29pm WAX (which arrives at the airport at 7pm). The nice part about waiting for the WAX here in the summer is that you can wait right in the Binion's entry way where it is air conditioned and still see when the bus arrives.

Anyway, I have taken the WAX numerous times and it is typically rather punctual. So when 6:47 rolled around I asked the overzealous security guard - whose post is at this transit stop - where the WAX was. The security guard called dispatch and apparently there was a fatal accident at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas BLVD which prevented the WAX from running, and that the WAX might show up in an hour.

I couldn't wait an hour, so I had to take a cab. Doh! The cab driver long hauled me, and I called the cab driver out on it quickly. When I asked, "is this the shortest route to the airport?" the driver refused to give me a straight answer. When I suggested that I call the taxi authority, my cab ride was suddenly "comped." :evillaugh

Just an FYI that there are new buses being used on the WAX occasionally that actually have luggage racks installed on the driver's side of the vehicle. They are in the spot where one of the side facing seats are across from the back door.

We used the WAX for the first time on our July 4th trip. On the way to DT, we were told by the 109 (i think) driver that WAX didnt run anymore. I asked him again if he was sure and he said yea. We ended up taking the 107 or 108 (the one that runs down Maryland) and were dropped off two blocks from downtown. As we're walking to the D, we noticed the WAX bus.

On the way back we caught it outside Binions and it was on time. Cant beat $8 round trip for 2 people.

We were in downtown Vegas last week and took the WAX out to Suncoast. Joe was kind enough to send me proper directions and the bus was a pleasure to ride. (Thanks Joe )

The bus driver was all excited that morning because she was driving a new bus with only 200 miles on it and it had luggage racks. On the return trip, there were 2 other passengers who were all excited about the new luggage racks as well. Having never riden the bus with luggage, I had no idea how luggage racks could make such a difference until the passenger and driver explained about those darn suitcases with wheels that sometimes get away from passengers. It's pretty big news for those that ride with luggage.

Where exactly did the WAX unload you at Suncoast? Wondering if there was any amount of walking to get to the casino itself. Thanks.

    (Foot/Knee issues here .. darn. )

Drop off and pick up is in the same spot, right in the driveway. Maybe 100 yards or so...

Here's a nice aerial shot of the bus stop and the Suncoast entrance courtesy Google maps.

Thanks for the tip and photo on Suncoast dropoff. Haven't been there in about five years but remember I always enjoyed the place. I remember being shocked that after only one VP session, both my name and drink were remembered the next day. Then the bartender (Jody), said I was easily spotted because nearly everyone else was a regular and I was the new face.

Guess it's more of a locals spot?

May have to take the WAX there next.
