We're booked in Flamingo 4 nights in September Fab Room. I was originally leaning to the Excalibiur b/c I like it there, but we ended up with good price and decided to go with the central location of the Flamingo. I'm reading about the construction issues around Flamingo, about the growly customer service at check-in and at the pool, and I'm starting to wonder if I would be better off at the Ex. I look at TripAdvisor and see that Flamingo ranked 142 out of 281 hotels, and Exc. ranked 115 out of 281 !!! AND Exc. gets 3.5 stars from customers and Flamingo gets 3. I do like the Exc. location. .. so. . what do you think. . . save a couple of bucks and change to the Exc. ??? On a related note, . . I have only stayed in the newer rooms at Exc. using $20 trick. . . are those referred to as the Tower Rooms?? or do I have to go for Widescreen rooms?? Can't recall which is the renovated tower.

    thanks in advance.

The widescreen rooms are the newer rooms, all in tower 2. However, the last few times I booked a tower room, they just gave me a widescreen room.

I always have good, friendly service at the Flamingo. I'm diamond, but have checked in many times at the regular desk with no issues at all. It's inevitable someone's going to catch someone on a bad day and get snarky service ANYWHERE, just as likely at ExCal as anywhere else.

I read all the trip reports on 5 different boards and most are saying the construction is down by the IP and Harrah's with little, if any, impact on flamingo. The latest one I read was last week.

Personally, I love the Flamingo location and would never consider trading that for the south location. But it sounds as if you do prefer the south location. If you know you are happy at Excal and that's where you want to be, then that's where you should go. I'd never change a ressie because someone reported bad service (have you actually listened to some of the folks checking in? It would take a saint to please some of them. Some I want to strangle myself!), but if I really wanted to be at a property because I like it there best, then that's a great reason to change.

    A few BIG variances here.

One is a MGM hotel, and one is a CET hotel. Alot depends on where you play and where you earn points/comps/offers.

Flamingo is more mid strip, but that may or may not matter.

Personally, though I am more MGM these days, Flamingo is way more where I would prefer to stay.

The Excalibur is old and pretty crappy. But, their rooms are fine and for some reason extra clean. The renovated rooms aren't fancy, but just slightly updated. The casino is gross. No appetizing food options. I think overall I'd say Flamingo is better... better location, better amenities and shows. I've only stayed in a GO room at Flamingo, but if given a choice I'd pick flamingo.

Excalibur is a 3 star, Flamingo is 3.5, it's a bit nicer. I guess just a matter of preference. There is a younger crowd at Excalibur.

I'd definitely prefer Flamingo over Excalibur. better location, better food options, one of the best pools. I have never had a customer service problem at Flamingo. It has been a while since I stayed at Excalibur, and I rarely even walk through there(prob not in atleast 6-7 trips). I felt it was too oversaturated with kids

I've stayed at both and IMO, Flamingo is a much better resort than Excaliber. I was at Flamingo a couple months ago and never noticed the construction, it was all going on behind IP.
