Hello, I work in Surveillance in a casino on the east coast. If anyone has any other question feel free to ask, I will answer what I can. On some of your points:

We do enjoy looking at video and laughing, although we are not allowed to keep a highlight reel. Some casino in Canada ruined that awhile back when the highlight reel got leaked and in turn they suffered a lot of bad PR. I think casinos got scared after that and ours instituted a policy of no highlight reels.

Card count training is available if you want to learn, which I did (why not?).

TITO thefts are incredibly common, we hate them so much.. so so much!!!! Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the theft could have been avoided by just taking your money with you when you go to the restroom or dinner. Seriously, who just leaves money unattended?

I have never heard of holding the casino liable for the over stated jackpot. Now there is a lot of ridiculous legal action so its possible I'm sure.

My background check was much more stringent then who you interviewed. However this didn't differ from any other gaming position.

I agree with her, once your in Surveillance you don't leave.

The job does have pros and cons, the major pro is you don't have to deal with any of the A-hole customers. Also your in a room thats smoke free unlike the rest of the casino.

The major con is, all the other employees hate you. I'm not kidding, we are really really disliked.

I would agree with the majority of what she said with some differences. We are allowed to walk on the casino floor and we do often. We can make friendly conversation with other casino employees (if they like us), i talk to Security often but it is mostly "hey how are you" kind of talk. We are not allowed to eat in the employee lunch room, or take breaks with the rest of the employees. We have to notify the director if we have a family member or close friend, roommate or gf/bf that works at the casino (this would cause some problems). We do ratings reviews, they are quite annoying!

Hmm, I'm going to think about this on my upcoming trip. I'm sure I'll come up with a few things I'm curious about.

I did see your Sonya interview and enjoyed it.

Yeah, same here. I grew a beard so I would look older. Got tired of getting carded for cigs when I was 35+.

And thanks for the post. I'm sure they have some good laughs at people. And, I wonder if they play "spot the hooker". ;)

Iowa is very strict too. At least on the weekends they always "card hard" anyone who looks like they may be under 40 or so. The casinos get spanked, badly, if some kid gets in, even if they catch it and throw said kid out. Still, it occasionally happens. I'm acquainted with a security guard who was suspended a few years ago for letting a kid sneak through.

Ironically, I ran out of canned air yesterday so today I stopped at the local Target' (properly pronounced with accent aigu) and the sales guy in the electronics department carded me at the desk. He said it's a new rule due to kids huffing it.

(I could not pass for under 18/21 even 40 if my life depended on it!)

I have a question about TITO thefts, mistakes made by an attendant or dealer than the costumer realizes after they have left the area, and anything that is reviewable. Does surveillance only worry about it when the people that actually got their tickets stolen or a lost chip or whatever it may be reports it to a slot attendant or security? I know surveillance is very busy, especially if its a big casino. There is also the hotel, tables, and bar to watch too, as well as people coming in the casinos with backpacks or very large bags walking around. With all the violence going on lately, we really have to be careful. I do not want to see anything happen like the Orlando shooting again. I have never been into a surveillance room before, but would like to see what one looks like someday inside and see how hard of a job you guys really do to keep us all safe.

I was overpaid at a casino in Palm Springs and alerted the dealer in hopes of getting some good karma.

Didn't work. Proceeded to go on a massive losing streak.

I has a case at one of the Indiana riverboats where the eye in the sky caught an underpayment to me that both the dealer and me missed. It was significant. I was on a UTH table and got a full house but both the dealer and me just saw the 3OAK portion of it. The pit critter came by a few hands later and told us about it. I was pleasantly surprised.

I do not work in security at all. Hell, did not even stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

But - if there are hundreds, maybe thousands of cameras in the casino, it would be impossible to actually watch this happen. And, with all the people cashing out a TITO from a machine, how would then even know if that was the right person or not? Unless of course there had one person watching one camera at a time - which goes back to hundreds and hundreds of cameras.

I would say 99% of TITO theft investigations are always reported from the customer. We are to busy with table, cage, security, legal, and beverage to constantly watch money people leave unattended. Lost chips are almost impossible to find, to small and dark.

Now if we notice an dealer error and the customer has already left the table, we can alert the Pit Manager who can note the customers account and the money would be returned the next time the customer was in action. The same thing if a slot attendant would find credits left on a machine or a voucher. This is all assuming the customer was being rated, if not there is not much we can do.

Cleavage is of course a perk of the job :)

Just kidding lol, we really aren't allowed to zoom in on the girls. I imagine if we zoomed down a girls shirt we would most likely be fired immediately.

Correct, thousands of cameras. I don't feel sorry for people who leave cash, vouchers, credits (all the same really) unattended. If someone runs up and grabs it from you it's a different story. You can't imagine the amount of people that will leave $$$$$$$ countless dollars in a machine and go to the restroom.

I enjoy giving money back to people, although most of the time it is the other way around.

I like to leave my loose change TITOs on the machine I was playing. Wonder how many times that's thrown off a security guy. LOL, I'll just leave it in the machine then.

I do the same thing if its only a few cents or if I am in a really bad mood and anything less than 20 cents I would leave it in for the next person to play; however, homeless people or anyone low on money are usually the ones who end up getting the loose change from the slots. What is smart to do is cash out any remaining credits if I cannot do one more spin without putting more money in and then turn it into change to put in the change jar when I get home. I think on my vegas trip a week from today I will do that if I remember.
