    My Trip Report

This is one of the annual trips we have done for the past few years with my Uncle who currently has cancer. He’s always enjoyed going to Vegas and betting on the superbowl and sadly it seems like this year may be the last year we get to do it with him, so we make good memories while we can.

The people going on this trip were myself, my mom, my uncle and his son. I’m the only one coming out of Houston, everyone else is coming out of different City’s. My Uncle was getting in Wednesday, my Mom Friday and my uncles son Friday.

I flew out Thursday Jan 29’th on United out of George Bush Intercontinental. Had the 9:15 PM flight so worked a full day (by worked I mean I read every post on VMB), and was out of the office by 4, home by 5 to pack, and my wife took me to the airport. My wife was initially going to go, but we are expecting our first child now and we weren’t sure if being in casino’s around smoke etc etc was a good idea not so decided to play it safe and she stayed behind. She doesn’t like to gamble much anyway so not much of a loss to her. Other than losing me for 4-5 days of course . Anyway, I always get to the airport way to early it seems and end up having to kill a bunch of time. I’m TSA pre-check, but I’m always scared that the day I don’t get there early there will be some major issue or this lovely Houston traffic will keep me from making it to the airport on time, so for now, I’m usually leaving the house 2-3 hours before my flight.

Killed some time at the airport at the bayou city bar in terminal C with some Jack n Coke’s. Drank a few of those, headed to the gate hopped on the flight (upgraded to first class), uneventful flight. Was able to watch my Memphis Grizzlies stomp out Denver then went on to watch the lakers beat the bulls on the direct TV channels that were on the flight.

Arrived in vegas a few minute early, didn’t check any bag’s and my Uncle picked me up and dropped me off at Caesar’s. Believe it was around 11:15 PM or so by the time I got checked in and to the room. I was staying in the Forum tower comped for the first night. Real nice room, push button drapes, awesome shower with a rainforest head. Would definitely stay in that room again. Took a few pictures of the room then headed down to the casino to play some.

Wasn’t really planning on gambling that much tonight, just kind of wanted to get the party started so to speak. Walked down to the sports book bar at caesar’s and settled in there. Played a couple hundred through a VP machine there which I could of swon said 8/5, but upon looking at my pictures I now realize it was 6/5. Man am I getting old or what, and I’m not even quite 30 yet. Anyway, I didn’t do much @ VP, played through a couple hundred only thing notable that I hit was Quad aces without the kicker. Ended up playing that all the way through.

From there, went over to a $25 BJ table in the pit area at caesar’s and bought in for $300, and actually did pretty good. Only played for 1-2 hours here, but was averaging between $25 - $150 / hand and walked away with $1,050 and my first ever yellow chip.

By now, it was around 2:30 / 3:00 AM I was pretty tired and feeling hungry..thought I would head over to the food court and see what they had, but it was all closed. First time at Caesar’s for me and didn’t realize the food court area wasn’t 24/7. Ended up just heading up to the room and ordering some Chicken quesadilla’s from room service. 1 Chicken Quesadilla + Pitcher of water was $33 but whatever. Barely stayed up for room service as the wait time was 1 hour and I finally got my food around 3:30 /3:45 in the morning. Ate it all up, drank the water and crashed.

Before I fell asleep though, someone in the next room started partying it up at 3:00 AM. I think it was a suite with some nice speakers, as you could very clearly here all the bass and everything in my room. Not sure what kind of suite it was, but it’s whatever is in front of the elevator area in the forum tower. Looked like it had curved windows ceiling to floor from the outside. I’m a heavy sleeper though and it didn’t bother me that bad.

Woke up the next morning and met my Uncle for breakfast at the peppermill. My first time there. Food was ok, but the portions were ginormous (is that a word?). Left peppermill and went back to caesar’s for him to check in (he was letting us use his Caesar’s comp for the weekend). Went to the diamond check in and got situated / everything taken care of in there then went to go get his free play that came with his offer. From there, we swing over to the Westgate (formerly LVH) and put a few bets on some games. I only put in 3 bets. 2 of those were $100 bets on the cubs to win the World Series @ 14 to 1 odds, and then 1 bet on Oregon State to beat Arizona at 15 to 1 odds.

Was hoping for an upset again, but that didn’t happen. Hopefully my cubs will come through for me this year, would be nice to go back to Vegas to get $3,000. With those bets in, we made it to the airport and picked up my mom who arrived early Friday afternoon and got her all situated and checked in. At this point, my uncle went to go get his room at the Linq and my mom was hungry so took her to Gordon Ramsay’s Pub and just had an order of the chicken wings and split a pesto chicken sandwich. Both were very good. Not much gambling happened, killed some time running around checking out places and getting our super bowl party tickets and went to dinner that night at peppermill again. I had a burger and onion rings which ok, but wasn’t that hungry.
Everyone went their own ways that night and I proceeded to go play BJ again at Caesar’s. I bought in at a $50 table for $500 and I played for 1-2 hours and had an awesome run at the table. Most of my Double down’s and splits hit, dealer was busting, just overall one of my best blackjack sessions. I started out betting low @ the table minimum, but by the end I was working up to $300/$350 bets. Overall at the end I colored up with $2,200. The most I’ve ever won at BJ. I probably should of stayed at the table longer, but I was starting to lose a few more hands than what I was before and didn’t want to push my luck, so colored up with 2 Yellow chips and a couple blacks. I should note to that I was making $25 dealer bets probably every 5-8’th hand or so. I probably gave that dealer at least $300 in tips. Overall great night for me.
Forgot to take a picture of my chips, but here's the cash:

Saturday morning I meet my mom downstairs and we go play a little craps. We play the dark side at craps and found a table with another don’t better. Started out cold, but then had a few shooters getting hot. Bought in for $500, got up to around $1k then started losing. Cashed out even @ $500 and we decided to go get lunch. On the way out of the pit there I took my $500 chip and tossed it on a BJ table with no one playing. Got 2 face cards dealt to me and dealer busted. Nice little hit and run there, was tempted to double it up and do it with $1k, but decided not to. We ended up walking over to the Mirage and ate at Carnegie deli whichw as delicious as always, however, I’m not sure it was a lucky restaurant for me as I started on a terrible decline after lunch. My mom and I went to another craps table and bought in for $500, played for 15-30 minutes came out even. Went to the $50 Double Deck, dealer stands all 17’s BJ table there at the mirage and got absolutely murdered. Lost 1K at that table in 45 minutes. Cashed out of there, and threw 4 quarters on 7, 12, 21,31 on roulette and lost that. From there, put $100 through a VP machine, lost that. Put $100 through a quick hit’s slot machine. Lost that. Bad day. By this time my Uncle had caught up with us and we headed back to the LVH to place our superbowl bets. You can see my pictures but I put $500 on Seattle to win, $300 on Wilson to get a TD, and $200 on Lynch to rush over 88.5 yards. During the game I also made a $100 bet on the second half to be over 24.

We didn't do much the rest of the day, just hung out mainly running around between different spots. Checked out the SLS, nice casino, but it was dead. Signed up for a players card and did the new player sign up bonus where you put in your card on a non progressive machine and you get to spin a wheel to see how much free play you get up to $5,000. I only got to $6 lol. Oh well..went through $100 and left. Went down to Fremont street that night and played at 4queens some, but didn't do much good there either other than hitting quad 3's with 2 kicker. I wanted to be playing at the $.50 or $1 level but they didn't have it on those machines..would of been nice if they did.
    IMG_1818.jpg
After Fremont street we did go to Mesa Grill at Caesars. I had made reservations there for the 4 of us. Definitely enjoyed the place. Sorry I didn't take any pictures, but we had the Lobster tacos, Chicken Skewers and Chicken Quesadilla's as appetizers. Entree's were the bone in rib-eye, Grilled Chicken, Some Lobster dish served on top of a lobster cake I do believe and a roasted pork tenderloin. All was very good and I would definitely go back here again. Total damage for the 4 of us was $330 so not bad. Was expecting more than that, but we only had 2 drinks at the table so that played into the price.

Played at Caesar's again later that night when everyone was done at Fremont street. Was hoping for my luck to work some magic again at the BJ table and win back my losses from the day. The lowest limit table they had there was $100. I don't really like playing a $100 table because I'm more comfortable at a $50 or $25 level where if things go south I can lower my better to survive the onslaught for a while. But I couldn't do that here. I got murdered. Lost $1k in 10 minutes and called it quits for the night.

Following day was the big game. I didn't gamble any before the game, just enjoyed the day, had breakfast at the Bacchanal buffet which was pretty good and then headed to the LVH for the party in their ballroom. I won't bore you with details on this, we all know what happened. If only the last play would of been a R wilson QB sneak for a TD I would of made nearly $2k on 2 of my bets. But that wasn't to be. I hit my Marshawn Lynch rushing bet, and hit my over 24 second half bet, so at least some is better than none. We all made it back to our hotels after the game and I believe everyone called it a night. Tomorrow most everyone was leaving including myself. I went back down and played for another 1-2 hours at BJ. Bought in for $500, worked that up to $1,200 or so, then lost it back down to $300. Took that $300 and played some $1 DDB for roughly an hour, but never got anything to happen. I did get dealt a 4 to a royal on one occasion, but didn't get what I needed. Therefore I still remain a RF virgin :(. One day I'll get it..I'm coming for it!

The following day was uneventful..didn't feel like gambling, just slept in, got to the airport at 10:45 for my 1:00 flight out. Once again thanks to TSA pre-check I made it through security in 5 minutes. Took the extra time and had some pizza at california pizza kitchen. Hopped on the plane after that and back to Houston where my wife picked me up.

    Overall for the trip:

The first 2 days I was up about $2,400, but I gave all of that back plus another $3,000. Came home with some money just because I don't seem to spend all my money in vegas lol. I also came home with a nice cold that i'm currently fighting so I came back with something ahhah.

overall though fun trip. I really enjoyed Caesar's and am hoping that since I gave them a bit more play maybe I'll get a few more offers from them. Not holding my breath, but we'll see.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Nice report - sucks to hear that your luck flipped around. I thought for sure after reading the initial successes plus the "$500 drive by win" you were on track for a killer weekend.

Best wishes to your Uncle too. Hopefully he will beat it and you'll continue to have your Vegas trips!

BTW - I live in Houston too and I am the same way...I leave extra early for the airport because I never trust the traffic. The beltway/249 and beltway/45 areas can get messy...especially on weekdays as you know!

Your right not sure why I thought I hit that. Still recovering lol

Rocky: yeah you and I both know you can't trust Houston traffic. Will be nice once they get the ramps from 249 to the 8 finished.

Nice report! I was glad to read about someone who thought they may have left the table too early! Sorry your luck didn't hold.
