Typically a DDB player (occ DW, BDx and JoB, STP variations on BDx), would like to try a different variation/game.

Thoughts on best game or variation that is available at the 25c level (up to 15 credits per hand) that is worth learning a new strategy? Something I may find with a decent paytable..?

Well, I see you are staying downtown for your next trip, so I'd say the next thing to learn in 10/7 and/or 9/7 DB. 10/7 is available in .25 progressives at 4 Queens and 9/7 is at MSS, 4 Queens, Binions, El Co and probably others.

The easiest based on what you are familiar with is 8/5 bonus which is at several casinos.

I second Double Bonus. It's a little complex and you may find some of the hands counter intuitive. It's worth learning if you're playing downtown or off strip. It's often the best game available.

If you're staying downtown next and want a good paytable, you could try learning 10/7 Double Bonus (100.17%). That's probably one of the few games that has significant strategy differences from the games you're already familiar with. But 10/7 DB games are only single line games. I'm also a fan of 99.95% Pick 'em (aka Pick-A-Pair) at Fremont, but that once again is only a single line game only for quarters. :( Also 8/5 "Treasure Chest Poker" (99.56%) is a bit of a twist and a time warp back to coin droppers. Just play JoB/Bonus strategy on that one. Those are at Cal, Fremont, and MSS I believe.

Here is what the 99.95% Pickem paytable looks like:

If multi-line games are a must, I probably stick to quarter 8/5 Bonus w/STP (99.44%) at Fremont, or 9/6 DDB w/STP (99.26%) and "Airport Deuces" w/STP (99.19%) at MSS. Or regular multi-line 8/5 Bonus (99.17%) at MSS.

thanks guys! I'll let you know as I practice if I think I can handle DB live...multi line, not a must...but Dad likes DW, so maybe I will point him toward Airport Dueces, does it play much different than regular dueces?

Yes, it's somewhat different from "full pay deuces". Full houses are 4 for 1 and flushes are 3 for 1, so when no deuces exist, two pair beats one pair and four to a flush beats one pair. For bartops, four queens would be a good choice for him. They have Airport Deuces with a Royal Progressive for quarters. And they also have 9/7 DB and 9/6 DDB with progressives on quads. Note the only difference between 10/7 DB strategy and 9/7 DB strategy is that you break two pair with Aces at 9/7.

Here is airport deuces strategy with a 4000 credit royal

And here is 10/7 DB strategy

Also if you want to experience El Cortez...you can set Dad on "Downtown Deuces" (100.92%) for quarters (a double deuces game). This is actually the best returning game left in Vegas in return. But this is a strategy more like "full pay deuces". One pair only, and pairs beat four to a flush with no deuces.
