I know it has been discussed before, but as I was out last night, it really donned on me how much harder it is to walk the strip (specifically at night) then it used to be. Between street performers, porn slappers, dressed up characters, homeless, bottled water & beer peddlers and of course large crowds, I had never seen so many bottlenecks like I did last night. The worst spots last night were: In front of Bellagio fountains (of course when the fountains are going it is to be expected), the overpass from Caesars to Bellagio, near the Mirage at the crosswalk to cross over to Harrahs just to name a few. I found the other side of the strip to be a little better, the Linq seemed busy but was surprisingly much easier to navigate.

I don't mind crowds and it gives a unique atmosphere when it's hopping like that, but these just weren't crowds, these were congested areas that took so much longer than they should to walk by. Personally, I think the street performers are out of control. Seems just about anyone can set up shop and to me, it's killing the vibe as you go down the strip.

I still had a great time out and about last night, but this really stood out. Sorry, rant over. :)

Something will probably be done about this as it is, in fact, getting to the point of more than a little annoyance!

Maybe Clark County will impose a "stroll tax". $2 for everybody leaving a casino on peak times, free to enter.

One of the reasons I'm staying downtown next trip. You can change venues in mere seconds. It does crack me up how close everything looks on the strip, yet just getting from Ceasers down to TI is quite a hike.

It doesn't help that all the casinos have built their real estate out to the edge of the sidewalk. Remember how nice it used to be to walk in front of Paris? Remember the great fountain? We just need one more place to buy some crap we don't need, and one more overpriced burger place. Right? :rolleyes2:

I like to walk at a,not necessarily fast walk, but a steady pace, I hate the strollers who block or slow everyone down.

I like to walk, and I often walk 3 miles each workday 3 seasons of the year, but I find the area around Caesars to be the most unbearable on the strip. Up, down, around - can't stand it and it keeps me far away from CP instead of containing me in their complex, which was probably the original intent. A close second is the long haul around Bellagio fountains. Lovely, but geez!

This is exactly why I have always rented a car for my stays over the last several years. In addition to giving me the freedom to explore off Strip venues, there is something to be said for just driving somewhere and avoiding that annoying foot traffic. While vehicular traffic can be annoying, at least I am comfortable in the car and not bottlenecked, stuck trying to get through a slow moving crowd.

Lol, we took newbs with us in March, and laughed when they were wanting to "take a fast jaunt" into the Cosmo... we were standing on the north side of Mirage. They kept saying, "but it's right there!"

And +1 on renting a car. Saves energy for drinking and gambling.

Carrot Top & walking the strip

    Carrot Top
Has a really funny skit about walking on the strip,
"but it's right there, Walk, Walk, Walk, walk, walk, "

I reserve my strip strolls for Weeknights, & the weekends it's all about the freezy cold A/C rent-a-car!

No getting my wife's sandal heels smashed from behind by an,
/Aggressive 3 sheets to the wind stroller pusher, drinking outa a 2' Eiffel tower,
w/1 Super melting baby in tow!

    The 3.2.1 Combo =Dangerous!
