Is it bad?? I rarely see even a mention of the place on here. I am getting married in february there, and did a check on Expedia and flight plus hotel for a week was very reasonable. Reviews weren't that bad I didn't think. Another question, since I am getting married there, would the $20 trick and a mention of my marriage there get me bumped up to a suite? Thanks

I have stayed there numerous times. I have had various rooms and each time the stay it was fine. I usually stay at the Golden Nugget downtown but if the rates are too high I try to stay at the Stratosphere for the value. You usually can get a great rate on a Luxury Grand Suite during the week from anywhere from 79 - 99 dollars. Pretty good for a 1000 square foot suite. If your looking for a great room with whirlpool then the Oasis Suite is for you. Huge whirlpool bath tub that looks out into the bedroom. Bathroom is huge also. You can see some of the rooms on Youtube. Type in Stratosphere rooms and this will give you an idea of what they look like. They may not be as swanky as Caesars or the Bellagio but hey for the price I have always enjoyed my stay. Parking garage is a short walk to the casino so overall a great place to stay. You also get unlimited free tower admission during your stay. Enjoy the thrill rides at the top or just go up for a meal. Lunch is served at the top of the world from 10-2 and is a great value (15-20 dollars) along with a great view. At night it is more romantic but prices definately go up. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions on the Strat. Will be staying there in October with my wife and daughter for my 40th birthday in a Luxury Grand Suite.

Thanks, Ace. $800 for 2 roundtrip, non stop tickets from Minneapolis, and a week in the Strats hotel is a steal, IMO. One thing I like about the Strat is actually the location, I like the idea of being in the middle of downtown and the strip.

I think the Strat is a pretty cool place and I would stay there if it wasn't out in BFE. I like being in the middle of things on the strip, and I'd feel like I was missing out on that if I stayed at the Strat.

I really like the updated room I booked a year and a half ago. Loved the location (close to downtown and the strip). You can take the monorail (from the Sahara) or the SDX (Strip Express Bus) to reach destinations south, or a quick SDX bus ride to downtown if you don't have a car. Pick some custard up a few blocks north. I liked the casino and they offer decent table games at low limits. Be sure to take a comped trip up the tower, you may end up checking it out a few times (day and night).

I'll try for an Oasis Suite my next stay (thanks for the mention).

Strat isn't bad at all. Not good (now that I've stayed at the Mirage), but definitely not bad. The upgraded room wasn't special IMHO...but the old rooms (assuming they haven't been left to rot in the last 2 years) were acceptable and a good price. I hope you get a suite and like it a lot! Pool wasn't good IMO, and don't use the in-room $$$telephone if possible. Staff was always...fine. Nothing great, never terrible to me.

But the location didn't really work for me...although now that I use the bus more I think it'd be OK. It's a long walk to/from Downtown, and as others may point out not through the very best neighbourhood. And it's a longer-than-I'd-like walk to the rest of the Strip, although I have no problem driving over. For some reason I didn't like driving downtown...that's was foolish of me!

For the price you mentioned - sounds like a decent deal. You should enjoy it just fine.

I wanted to stay there a few years ago when I got a sweetheart deal for a suite there. Wifey boycotted the idea so it was back to the Mirage. I like the place and would definitely book the suite for a special occasion. I have heard several people who love this place.

I'll weigh in as one of the Stratosphere supporters here.

Overall, the Stratosphere is big - but not too big. It's just big enough to have all the resort amenities (nice pool, bars, restaurants, shops) but not so overwhelming that you get tired just from trying to walk across the casino.

One of the things I think gets overlooked is the quality and value of the restaurants. You've got great Italian food and steaks at Fellini's. There’s excellent burgers and comfort food at Roxy's. And some of the best pizzas and sandwiches in Las Vegas are at Tower Pizza. The best part is you'll notice the lack of Strip prices. Go up the tower and prices escalate accordingly. Need a fast food fix? There's a McDonald's on the second floor. And, the Starbucks on the casino floor will give you that morning boost.

One of the best Happy Hours in Las Vegas is at the main C-Bar which, for $20, gets you all the beer, margaritas and martinis you can drink from 5-9 every night. That's probably the longest Happy Hour in Las Vegas and a smokin' deal. And, a VJ comes in Thursday through Sunday to pump up the music at the bar too. A tip for the C-Bar: You can order pizza and sandwiches delivered to you at the bar from Tower Pizza upstairs. The sausage pizza has big hunks of cut sausage on it and the meatball sandwich is superb.

    Enjoy.

    Zamboni,
    Congrats on the wedding.
Are you getting married on the Observation Deck ?
    .
    Talk w/ VIP check-in,
or try $20 Trick at regular check-in
but if you're getting married there,
I would think someone would help you out w/
    a suite.
The suite w/ the whirlpool partitioned from the room
    was pretty fun.
    .
I've been staying at The Stratosphere for probably 20 yrs.
It has made very nice changes over the years.
The current pool was added for a nice change ( many yrs ago ).
The buffet has come A LONG WAY.....I think it's pretty good.
That Happy hour at C-Bar is an outstanding value !
The rooms have been re-modelled again + again.....however, the Strip Views
have been destroyed (IMHO ) by the erection of TimeShare towers.
    .
The crowd in the casino are moderately dressed people.
    The casino limits are nice.
    .
    Location ?
I use the bus to Downtown - 20 mins max - very good value.
Yeh...that neighborhood has vagrants - I never had a problem
just use common sense - and I've been on that Strip Area at 4 am.
    Yes,
it would be too long of a walk to reach center strip -
    but you have a car.
    .
I think The Strat is a great value
and I'm glad some people hate it !
Then it will stay a great value !:evillaugh

No, we will get married in a salon. The observation deck doesn't close off for weddings, so I don't want some clown walking in the middle of our wedding. Plus they have music piped in to the deck and they dont' shut that off, either. I really liked our room at the Cabana Suites downtown, and that may be my go to hotel while in town, but they don't have their rates available on Expedia until you are like 2-3 months out and I want to get plans settled soon so people can plan their travel accordingly. I rate shopped the room with flights and it was $837 total, and just flights alone were almost $800 on Expedia, so basically I will be getting the room for $40 for an entire week booking together, which makes not waiting well worth it.

Zamboni - you made a good selection. The cost of your airfare/hotel is excellent. We have had several stays at the Strat. The rooms we stayed in ranged from decent to very nice. The casino was always good to us. We liked the dining options and the decent prices. Definitely have a meal at Roxy's. Spending some time up in the Tower is fun. Since you have a rental car, the location isn't a big deal. Have a great trip!

Its been several years, but hubby and I stayed in a suite with a big tub over looking the strip. I got a great price on it and it was only for a few nights. The room was very nice at that time, however if they have not upgraded anything since then its probably not very nice now.

    UPDATE:

I was at Stratosphere last night and need to make some corrections to my prior post. The $20 happy hour from 5-9 has moved from the C-Bar to Images (a small bar/lounge on the West side of the casino floor). And, the VJ that performs Thursday through Sunday nights has moved from the C-Bar to the 108th floor (yes, way up the tower).

I am 99.99999% sure that we are staying at the Strat for that deal. It is a great deal, and I really have heard no complaints that would prevent me from staying there. I have mainly stayed on the strip in the past, but last trip I stayed at the Cabana Suites at the ElCo and that will be my go to hotel in the future, but this trip I want to stay in between strip and downtown due to family being in town. The ElCo doesn't have rates available on Expedia yet since february is so far out, and that hampers that as well. More than likely we will check in tuesday, have 7 night stay paid for off Expedia, and get married on thursday, pack a bag and leave the Strat for just one night (but not check out) and stay at the M Resort for a little honeymoon at a place I love the most in Vegas. I love everything about the M, except the room prices, but one night won't kill me.

I stayed at the Stat for 5 days last year. It's okay but nothing to rave about. I had problems with the first room they gave me. Then they upgraded me to a slightly better room. Even though their room rates are not expensive, they still add a resort fee. There are better deals to be found at other hotels on the Strip such as Bally's.

I stayed at Ballys in april, did the $20 trick, it worked and upgraded room was great and everything, but the deal I am getting through Expedia after flight the room is about $40 total for the entire 7 night stay. Sleeping under the I-15 overpass would cost more. Ballys is extremely high on the weekends, around $150+ a night.

I stayed at The Strat about ten years ago. I enjoyed the room and the casino.
The Sahara was still around back then so it did not feel so isolated. But, now with nothing around it, it just seems too isolated for me to consider for a stay or visit.

Booked it today!! Excited!!! I paid an extra $52 fee to Expedia which will allow me to either change or cancel both flights and hotel without a huge change fee (usually $150 each ticket). Only reason I decided to add that on is the fact the trip is 8 months away still. $888 total for 2 non stops, round trip tickets and 7 nights at the Strat. Can't beat that with a stick!!
