    My Trip Report

    FLIGHT - Sunday - July 27, 2014

8:00AM - We flew out of Orlando and made it to Las Vegas in record time. We were supposed to land at 9:50AM and we landed at 9:10AM!

    WYNN

Because we were so early our room wasn’t ready. This is only the 2nd time we’ve had to check our bags with a Bell Desk in the past 8 years. After doing so we went to the Terrace Pointe Café for breakfast. Afterwards we hit the slots when I realized all my money was in my (carry-on) suitcase that I just checked. Oh well I had a couple of $100 on me so we super low rolled it for over an hour until we received a text saying our room was ready. We were on the 8th floor overlooking the pool. BTW, has anyone noticed the smell in Wynn’s hallways? To me it smelled like Carpet cleaning or maybe something from the elevators? It wasn’t too bad but there was definitely an odor.

    LE REVE

This was our first time seeing the show and it was awesome. We were in Section F - Row G. The showroom is incredible and the performers both Men and Women were super chiseled! It was like looking at a bunch of living Michelangelo Statues! Some of the stunts are mind blowing! I think I’d like to see the show again because there is so much going on I’m sure I missed a few things. Great Show!

STRANDED on MT. CHARLESTON - Monday - July 28, 2014

Always the adventures we decided we needed to check out Mt. Charleston so we rented a car for the day. As we were driving up the mountain road the sky got very dark almost pitch black. Once we were up about 7,700 Ft it started to rain like crazy and then I received an Emergency Alert on my iPhone and BAM we started getting pummeled with Hail! As we tried to leave there was a flash flood and the road out of town was washed out! We could not leave! We had to turn around and go up to the Lodge and wait it out. We were told it would take about 2 – 3 hours. We parked and once the rain let up a bit we go into the Lodge but my Gal-Pal goes back out to the Rental Car to figure out why the lights would not turn off. And then the Hail really started dropping and it was coming down hard! I look out in the parking lot and see she is pinned down stranded hovering underneath the eve of a little shed out in the parking lot.

The waiter gives me 2 large Food Trays and I place them over my head and I run out to her. It was so bad that my hands were getting bashed up pretty bad! I get to her and give her a tray and tell her to watch her hands and follow me. So we run across the parking lot back inside the restaurant and we not only got soaked but my hand had welts on it and her one finger was swollen. She was pissed because it was her slot pushing finger! Haha! So we are both sitting there silently wondering to ourselves if we were going to get out of there or be stranded overnight. The waiter told us that the fire dept would call them to say when the road was re-opened. So we wait and eat and drink coffee and wait some more etc… And just when I’m starting to get worried I go to the bathroom and a guy tells me he just received a message saying that the road was re-opened and he starts to leave. I tell my Gal-Pal but she was afraid to go back out without official confirmation.

Later she goes to the bathroom and the waiter comes over and whispers to me that the road is opened and they were letting cars go out intermittently. I pay my bill and when she came out of the bathroom and I said grab your stuff and I quietly tell her what’s going on. We leave (before the mad rush) and started to pass dozens of cars still parked on the side of the road but there were cars moving in front of us so I said keep going don’t stop and on the way out we pass the News Trucks. On the way down the mountain we see the portion of the road that was washed out and the amount of water rushing down the road was unreal! We stopped where another News Truck was at and the rushing water was actually cutting a river through the desert floor! I saw Channel 13, 05 & 08 out there and the next morning they said the road was closed again and 10 homes were damaged! I guess it was a big deal to receive the News coverage. We are lucky we got out of there when we did!

    REST OF OUR TRIP

After getting off Mt. Charleston we drove to a couple of Factory Outlet Malls and afterwards to M Resort where we found the Jurassic Park Slot Machines and they were a lot of fun. I turned $100 into $300 and she managed to turn $50 in over $500 and we both cashed out at $300. Then we went to Bellagio for Dinner and hung out there for awhile. On Tuesday the 29th we went to Treasure Island and we had not been in there since 2008. She said it reminded her of a basement and I said it was like a Man-Cave! We found another Jurassic Park there and played for awhile then went over to Mirage for a bit then across the street to Venetian/Palazzo and then back to Wynn for the last night of our stay. I was worn out and around 7:30PM I went up to the room and started packing for our flight home. She sends me a video of a nice win of around $1,400.00 and I tell her to pace herself and yep several hours later she comes up to the room and said she lost it all… She’s a Crazy Lady!

Thanks for the report. That’s some crazy hail!

I now have another excuse to just remain in the casinos and gamble and drink the entire trip!

These are good descriptions. For a sizable strip property, it strikes me as "dark".

Crazy about the hail and flooding!

Forgot to mention that it got very cold! Back in Las Vegas it was 100 degrees
while up on the Mt. it was 45 degrees! We even turned the heat on in the car.

Thanks for the report! Very crazy weather on Mt Charleston. Just curious any issues returning the rental and hail damage?

Anytime it rains in Vegas it's news for the local stations. Any sizable amount causes ponding on the roads.

I didn't see any visible damage but I always purchase the extra insurance so I do not have any problems.
When Hail gets to be the size of marbles and golf balls that's when it can do the most harm to a vehicle.

Damn that was a crazy storm!

I cringed when you said you left your money in your bell checked bag. I would be too nervous to leave it there!

I also cringed when you mentioned hail and a rental car. I never buy the insurance so I wonder how that plays out if you don't get it?

    Good question.

Mdee, that was quite the experience on Mt Charleston. Glad you had some wins.

Several years ago I rented a car from Dollar in Charlotte, NC and after returning home they said I wrecked it.
There was absolutely no visible damage on the car when I returned it but it was my word against theirs. I ended
up having to pay a repair bill of $800.00. It was cheaper than fighting it out of state... Ever since then I pay for
the accident insurance that way I can return it wrecked and walk away from it. Believe me you cannot fight them!

But wouldn't your own insurance then take over? I don't rent cars very often and never in Vegas so I just assumed that my USAA coverage would be sufficient.

Your insurance would cover after the deductible. I carry a $1,000 ded. Might not make sense to make a claim.

    Ok cool.

I actually just lowered my comp/collision to $250 yesterday because I live in Houston and the likelihood that I will be hit by someone or broken in to is high.
