Ton of #Vegas visitors staying longer than planned due to crippling East coast snowstorm canceling 1,700 flights & delaying 2,900 others!

Nice problem to have. Anyone ever get stranded in Vegas? Would your hotel take you back, or kick you out? Not sure about sleeping at the airport, although I've done that in NYC.

We had our flight postponed a few years back and they flew us out the next day.

It was a big fight weekend (can't remember the match up) and we could not find a premium room anywhere. The airline ended putting us up at the Wild Wild West much to my displeasure.

I actually had a decent time - I guess some things are what you make of them. I'd never book Wild Wild West as an option for a trip but for a freebie it could of been way worse.

Happened to us on our trip in December. We were staying at RR and a winter storm was predicted for the northeast. SW was allowing changes to flights so we rebooked for the next day, extended our car rental ($21 extra) and asked a host for another comped night which we got. That extra day gave us a total of 11 days in Vegas.

A friend had an optional travel advisory with AA last year.

Since he had lost his bankroll on day 2 of a five day trip, he decided not to take up the option of a further 2 days.

I did. Flight had mechanical problems. After 8 hours at the LV airport, I said screw it, put me on a flight the next day. Called a dozen hotels, until I finally found a room at the San Remo. Ended up winning a 500 bucks that night.

I've stayed there, hotel wise it really was pretty decent, the bed was comfortable. The casino is easily the smokiest casino I have ever been in, but I won some money, so it was easy to put up with.

Onto the original poster, I know a guy that was hitting the slots at the airport and hit like a $3000 jackpot, he couldn't find a cashier (many years ago, they are everywhere now) and ended up missing his flight. He bought a ticket for the next day and had a great time that night on the strip

I was in Vegas for a work related conference when a major snowstorm was headed for Chicago so I left early to get on an earlier flight. The window to take off was rapidly closing but they were still optimistic we could get out. That was until then President Bush (43) pulled up to Air Force One shutting down the entire airport and causing us to miss the window and the flight was cancelled. I called our travel service, they quickly booked me at Mandalay (I had been staying at the Venetian the previous two nights) and settled in for the night. I discovered the Burger Bar that night (to this day my favorite burger place anywhere) and won a little playing poker. So I owe a big thanks to "W" for his perfect timing!

I got stuck with Hurricane Sandy beating on the East Coast in 2012. I got word a couple of days before my flight that it was cancelled. I couldn't get thru to United on the phone or web to change my flight, so I headed to the airport where I was lucky enough to get in the first class line instead of the regular line that had about 200 people in it. I guess they assumed I was already in first class since I was in that line and booked me in first class for another flight thru D.C. (couldn't get them to understand going thru Houston would be better.) They ended up cancelling that flight as well, but I was able to get a hold of someone on the phone the second time and change my flight to go thru Houston.

I stayed the first day with a friend who was still in town, then used a Mirage comp for the last night. By that time, I was already nursing my bankroll and gambling just didn't appeal to me. And to top it off, I got food poisoning the last night as well. Not an experience I want to repeat...

A friend was in LV on 9/11....due to fly out that evening. All flights cancelled, of course and Bally's let them keep their room at no charge for several additional days at no charge. She said they gave them free buffet passes and some free play for each day.....they were wonderful to everyone in their position. They continue to be loyal to CET & Bally's to this day because of the extreme kindness they displayed.

a few years ago I was out for a three night trip. had two comped nights at the mirage then two comped at Planet Hollywood. was just not going to use the second night at ph. early in the morning of our departure day, we got word that our flight was canceled due to bad weather in ohio. luckily, I hadn't checked out yet so just kept the second night. thankfully, our extra day was the best day I had and was able to come home with some cash. there were people scrambling all over the place looking for rooms.

I cant say i was stranded but one time i fell asleep at the gate and the flight announced to board was to atl instead of wash dulles. I asked what happened to my flight and the agent said it left lol.

Few other times ive missed flights leaving vegas which i was notorious for. I would always come up with an excuse why I missed the flight but it was more me having a good time, around with friends and family, and partying.

Ppl would always say to me that they know i would miss my next return flight before i even left for vegas. Now since im older, i dont go party as much and make sure to make my flights lol.

Thank goodness for being self employed.

I had a great deal happen one time. I was flying Southwest from Albuquerque to Oak or SF, the Bay area and return flight we changed planes in Las Vegas. As I was exiting the plane in Vegas, I heard that wonderful announcement, we are looking for volunteers and will get you a hotel and food and air voucher and fly you out next morning! So I volunteered and even got a flight out at noon next day. They put me up at the Trop, gave me $50 for dinner/breakfast, and a $200 flight voucher! Score!!

My flight was delayed for 6 hours so I decided to stay the night in Vegas and leave the following day. Since this was during the Mayweather-Canelo fight, hotel rates were ridiculous. Fortunately, I was able to find a good rate at NY-NY.

I've had a few experiences with weather and mechanical-related cancellations/delays that required an overnight. Unfortunately, it's part of traveling nowadays but you get used to it. The worst is when your airline doesn't take care of you at all, even when your a paid Business or First Class passenger. Stupid British Air didn't accommodate my family and I on the next flight out from Dubai to San Francisco after a mechanical-related cancellation since "all flights were full" which was absolute bs since a lot of other airlines had space. So, I had to pay $500 for hotels that night since they didn't want to pay for that either, even for four paid Business Class passengers.
