I know you guys will get a kick out of this story:

I'm in Lake Charles this weekend and we are staying at the Isle of Capri. For those that don't know the Isle is a leftover from when all the casinos had to be on Boats. The casino itself is a giant river boat with a hotel and stuff built on the land. It's actually easy to not even realize its a boat. But anyways,

So I found my new favorite machine there. It's a penny 100 play Super Tmes Pay machine and there is only one. I've played it on several occasions on my last two trips and it always either makes me a bit of money or at the very least earns me a ton of points. I know its responsible for me getting the 2000 teir credits needed to get to the second FanClub level (I already had nearly a thousasnd before that I think) and on this trip I've gotten my teir score to nearly 8000 and I'd never have that much play on regular slots. At max bet (6) x 100 hands its $6 per spin but the 100 hands makes the volatility very low. And $6/spin on other games isn't usually sustained for very long on this low rollers budget. Plus this machine (unlike some of the other STP's I've played) is pretty good about giving frequent Multipliers.

So the first time I tried to get on the machine last night there were these two guys playing it. One was sitting down but the other was punching most of the buttons. As I walked by I glanced at the screen to see how many credits they had to get a gauge of whether they might be likely to leave soon or not. I noticed that they were playing less than max credits and only like 10 or 20 hands. I played at a nearby VP machine for a while but they didn't finish. When I finally played out what I had put in the VP machine I went to leave and noticed they looked like they were going to get up since they'd taken their card out and hit the cash out button. I asked if they were finishing up or going to keep playing (was just being polite since they clearly appeared to be leaving) and one of them said "no, I think we are going to play another 5". It was then I realized that these guys were just killing time and although I didn't say anything to them I told my wife later, "Those dorks are hogging the machine! And they're playing all wrong! They aren't playing max bet, they aren't activating the Super Times Pay......they don't' even have the turbo on! So they are just waiting for the 20 or so hands to slowly deal out and taking their sweet ass time going as slow as they can!"

I know its first come first served as as long as they are playing they can do it as they like and as slow as they like but haven't you ever felt that someone needed to stop screwing around and $%#t or get off the pot?

One man's wrong is another man's perfect. But it certainly sucks to have to wait for some people who don't even care what machine they're playing.

some people have it all figured out.....it is just not as fun if you walk in and just empty your wallet on the floor and leave.....it is "funner" if you waste some time while you empty your wallet on the floor

I can't imagine that anyone finds it fun or interesting to play without at least having a clue about the rules and odds, but they are out there and I suppose they are either keeping it cheaper for everyone else or sadly more than likely they are making the casino "suits" feel that everyone likes to be chumped for their money so just set all the machines and tables to crap odds and rake in the cash!

I feel your pain - but sometimes I might BE your pain! I frequently play at Sam's Town in Shreveport, LA (or in Las Vegas) - they have two 100-play penny VP machines. I frequently play only 25 or 50 play at max coins, but I often see people playing 1 line at 1 penny. It just kills me!!! (And don't they always get dealt 4OAK!!!!) Deep breaths . . .

Oh heck no, I couldn't fault anybody for playing max coins even at fewer than max lines. At least with max coins per line you are getting full pay and STP hits. I'm pretty sure these guys were playing one coin per line. You really just had to see them, I've never seen anybody gamble this slow. I would have been bored out of my skull!

Years ago, I was at harrahs playing my fav old keno machine. I had my six numbers marked on the machine next to me. I wasn't paying attention and some hillbilly yahoo came up put two quarters in and won 800 bucks! I said, hey those are my numbers. He then said with a southern drawl, Don't that just make you mad! I was so pissed. :grrr:
I packed up next morning, drove down to Laughlin and hit six out of six on live Keno for a nice 2200 bucks. I was so happy! That was a lot of money for a married couple both in college!!!

Lol, there's nothing worse than someone at a machine you want to play and they're at like $2.20 left and playing 20 cents a spin and keep hitting bonuses that take two minutes to finish.

It is inconvenient when there's only one machine- or one bank- in the casino that has the game you prefer, and someone is hogging it. Has happened to me numerous times. Must be worse in a small casino. Those are the times I am glad I enjoy a variety of games.

I find machine hogging objectionable when someone holds a machine for a friend for more than a few minutes or tips up the chair to go to dinner. You won't believe the false sense of entitlement some people seem to have.

By the same token, if your credits are on the counter, you get to play them as you like without being eyeballed. It's even worse at the blackjack table, where ninnies frequently offer advice.

Perhaps these two fellows had no need to accumulate X number of points and knew they were being watched.

This one really drives me nuts. If I see a chair tipped up for very long - 15-30 minutes, I have been known to put it down. Sometimes these people leave and NEVER come back cause they found something else, or the ATM refused to give them any more money.

(when I tip them back, I usually do not play them by the way)

So b/c they dont play "your" strategy...then they are dorks? I can understand the wasting time part of your post but really? Its a damn slot machine...not life and death. Just let them guys be....they obviously give 0 shits about what they are doing and arent attempting to strike it rich to retire or brag to their friends about their big win.

Is that a 1 cent or 5 cent 100-play machine?

Daaaaang guys, there's a white knight for everything on this board isn't there? As I said, I do understand that these guys had a right to play how they like and I wasn't "eyeballing" them or anything. I played at a nearby machine for a bit thinking they'd finish up. When they didn't I left and checked back (from a distance) maybe two or three times over the course of several hours. I'm not saying they were in the wrong or anything. But just about everybody thinks to themselves sometimes "they are hogging the machine" and "they are playing all wrong". Just thought it was a funny thought and you guys could commiserate.

It was a 1 cent machine. Only 1 cent VP machine I know of in either of the 2 big Lake Charles casinos. And I'm pretty sure there won't be one at the Golden Nugget they are building either. Lol.

    Ummm....YES!

    Are you serious?
Is it mandatory to play with the Turbo on? If so, why is there an option to turn it off?
My wife enjoys playing with the turbo on and I enjoy with it off. Its just another feature to customize ones playing experience.

I had to take up the standard because Ken has been behaving himself lately.

Aside from checking back several times, which I am certain the two guys noticed, you made the boorish move of asking about "your" machine. No wonder they sat back down. Also, you have not demonstrated that the machine in question has a higher payout percentage when one makes the optional wager. The play of the two men may have been closer to correct than yours.

Dang, I tried to post a funny story. What's up with all the jumping down my throat and trying to find fault with my actions?

Fist off, no, they didn't see me checking back. I could see from well across the casino if someone is on the machine and the way the machine is situated you are facing a corner while playing it with your back to pretty much the entire casino but not in a way that you can even see it in the reflection.

As for your assertion that I asked about "my machine" that was just talk between me and my wife and now you guys. I did not say or imply anything to the guys about my having any claim to the machine (because I don't). I just asked if they were done since all indicators were that they were. I was in no way rude or impolite to them.

Is there a VP machine where playing a single credit has a better payout than max? I wouldn't have thought so but I'm no expert. I also was under the impression that nearly all if not all VP machines only paid full on a royal with max bet...is that not true?

As for the Turbo, again I completely acknowledge they are free to play as they see fit, but I find it crazy to play a 100 line machine at regular speed. It takes FOREVER to deal out all those hands that way and it was another aspect of their playing slow and killing time.

Looks like some people need to work on their sarcasm detection. I found your first post very humorous. Some people probably don't realize that the slot machine plays better with the volume way up either.:stir:

Yeah, this is frustrating for me too because my nearest casino as only one 50 play unit and one 100 play unit, both with STP. If you show up when it's busy though, forget it. I like playing it because it's also has one of the best paying games for nickels or less in St. Louis. A deuces wild game that offers 5600 credits for a Royal (97.5%; 97.78% w/STP). Tunica Roadhouse also offers this odd paytable. I have also seen a picture of a similar STP deuces game with the 5600 Royal that was 99.68%; 99.96% w/STP. I...must...find!!!

And FYI, these units exist on the Vegas strip at Harrah's, Flamingo, and Tropicana.

Full list of casinos can be found here:

I'm most fond of the Flamingo location though because it has a good view of the "pleasure pit" and by some miracle, hit my only Royal(s) in Vegas. Note I was a jerk not playing all the lines either without turbo...lol I believe the hand below occurred in turbo mode automatically though.
