    My Trip Report

Its been some time since I have spent any significant time on the strip, so when the inlaws decided to come and stay at the Mirage, we decided, what the heck lets get a room and 'visit vegas' (even though we live in Henderson, NV). We stayed for two nights, and although in the end it was quite expensive, it was a blast!

I mostly played poker (1/2 NL or 3-6 Limit are your options at the mirage) and had fun, but also played some craps. ($10 limits during the day, but they go up to $15 at 7PM.. but if you are already playing they grandfather you in). Great fun at the dice tables, I play pretty conservatively but still managed a winning session !

I don't play blackjack anymore, but I did look around and was shocked that even $10 shoe games are paying 6:5. At least the tables are clearly marked!

As for entertainment, we dined at Ondo (very nice!) and then went over to the Hard Rock to listen to the "Sin City Sinners", that show was off the hook rock and roll!

Anyway, all and all quite pleased with our "Staycation!" !

Sounds like you had a nice time. So with you living in Henderson do they treat you like a local? Do you receive room offers or comps?

When we still had a history of play there we still got offers even though we lived in Henderson. But over the last few years we have mostly stuck to the Green Valley Ranch as it is closer. You do get some discounts for being a local for shows and food though.

Yeah there's a thread about this in the casino gaming forum. They just changed their rules this month.

So sad. I've stayed at the Mirage twice before. Their decimation of all their playable blackjack pretty much guarantees I'll never stay there again.

excuse my ignorance but what does 6:5 mean when it comes to black jack?

A blackjack pays 6:5 on your bet. So if you bet $10 and are dealt a blackjack, it only pays $12.

Regular games are 3:2, so if you are dealt a blackjack it pays $15 on a $10 bet.

ahh i see. But if you win a hand (not being black jack) is it even money?

Some places compound the problem even further by not allowing even money (insurance) on BJ vs a dealer Ace.

Check back in two years: regular games will be 6:5.

Cool to hear a local doing a staycation. I lived in Las Vegas in mid 90's and would do staycations at the Hard Rock. There used to be a local car rental place on that corner where you could rent a car per hour, was a $1 an hour, what a deal. Now I need to get back and see Sin City Sinners, sounds like a good show.

Thanks for the staycation report. My brother and SIL live in Summerlin and they frequently go to the CET properties for free getaways. They love it. It's a couple of days to play and ignore the news on TV, ignore the mail and remind yourself of what it was like visiting Vegas before you moved there. -- Lorna
