Anyone been in the Stage Door for a few drinks or shots?
Sure. It's divey and loud. I'm a middle-aged, mild-mannered teacher. I go there most every day of every trip for a $3 hotdog and beer. (It's a good hotdog--Nathan's famous, sold for $5 or more at Bally's across the street.)
This place sounds like a hidden gem, going to visit next week for the first time!
Oh, it's no gem. Most of the people in there think Ellis Island is too snooty.
Definitely check it out, if you haven't been before. From the outside, it looks like a dive. But cheap drinks, hot dogs; the staff there is fun and friendly. There's a C-store on one side and the bar on the other. I hit it every trip to have a couple of beers, then pick up some trip necessities at the store.
"Hidden" -- kind of
"Gem" -- depends what you think a gem is :evillaugh
It's a $#!7 hole that's for sure. But as others wrote, it has a convenience store there and they sell liquor, beer, whatever you need. Not sure if it's cheaper or not than the 7-11 or AM/PM down the block but if you're staying near strip like Flamingo, it's about as close as you can get.
One of the reasons, no the only reason why we stay at Ballys is the trip and fall closeness of the The Stage Door bar. Yes is may get loud and it may be a dive but give me the $1.00 beers and Nathans Hot Dogs any day of the week. The attached store is the first thing we hit for supplies like bottles water, snacks and liquor. Just remember no picture taking inside and cash is king.
No picture taking inside? Not really an issue, yet an odd vacation destination stipulation.
Come on Snidley & Dogg. We all know it's a dump but it is what it is. The place is addictive. In all of my years going in there I have NEVER had a bad experience. NEVER had a bad bartender. Some of the most friendliest around. Even the low end clientele are friendly. Surprisingly, there are some really prominent people that pop in for a few beers. K66 it's worth the visit. If you don't like it leave. It's very safe. There is always security at the door.
It's officially the policy for just about all casinos it's just a matter of how much it's enforced.
Every time in Vegas I visit the stage door. Also stay at Bally's to have quick walk across street.
Not everyone knows it's a dump. I would never tell anyone not to go there; just have a good idea of what to expect.
I think he meant no picture taking inside The Stage Door bar and it's an odd stipulation to stay in a hotel such that it's in close proximity to a dive bar.
I stop in every time I walk by, on my way to & from Ellis Island for the $1 Michelobs. There's a well-endowed blonde bartendress(Sarah)(Yes that's sexist) very outgoing and friendly. She works afternoons.
Correct. I don't think of this place as being a casino, although I am aware it does house a handful of machines.
Always stop in there for a beer and sometimes a dog.
Picture taking inside The Stage Door is strictly enforced. We were in there one late afternoon drinking and having a good time when one of the better known street performers popped in for a beer. Several people wanted to take selfies with him that is when security and the bartender enforced the rule. Believe me it is posted on signs throughout the place. I just wanted to add that you would be surprised with the clientele who stop in throughout the day and night. I have seen people in suits, older people, younger people and the questionable types. But from my conversations with many over the years there the questionable types know not to mess around in that place.
Popped in here on my October trip, been meaning to do it for years, glad I did. As others have said, friendly, cheap, and something different from the sterile corporate Vegas that seems to dominate everywhere these days. Only gripe, is if you cash out at VP, you gotta get a hand pay, but at least they are 10 times quicker than any strip casino for hand pays.
The $1 beer is now PBR. Michelob is now $1.50 and Corona is $2.
Heck to his old school beer drinker that's an upgrade.
