If I have a big win,do I need to show my social security card, or can I just give them my number? Also, do most people have taxes taken out right away?

It is strongly advised you do not carry around your SS card.
Photo ID and verbal SS# is fine.

No, you do not need to show your SS#. (a few people will say you do).

I have probably 40 W-2gs from the last two years. Never shown it.

Only once did have taxes withheld. I have deducted all winnings for years as I do not come out ahead.

    SS Card?

I had one when I was a youngster. That was a long long long time ago. I haven't seen it since.

You've been lucky - I never travel with mine but have used it many times over the years to prove identity - when moving to a new location to get a DL, when getting a new job, getting a passport (then getting another passport when one I had in college was lost before grad school - and if I ever lose one again, I'll need it instead of just turning in the old passport), when changing my name. Then when getting married and changing my name again. Actually, for that, I changed my SS card first then used the new SS card to change my name all the other places:peace:

Handy little card. But it lives in the safe 99% of the time and never travels with me.

Thank you. I do not like to take ours with us. We were at a local casino a few years ago and left it in the safe. How does that casino not tell us we left it there? We are regulars and that should have been done. If we leave shampoo, perfume, stuff like that it's fine, but leave those cards,it's not good. No we never got them back, but we are very careful now.
