I was perusing the bong collection in one of the souvenir stores on Fremont and casually asked the sales dude if they also sold screens.

Dude went ballistic! "No, selling screens is a felony in the state of Nevada"

I answered, "So, selling bongs is legal but selling screens is not."

He replied, "These are not bongs. They are for tobacco."

I laughed. "I'm old, but I am not an idiot. We both know what they are. I want to know if you sell screens."

Dude, getting belligerent and sarcastic: "Marijuana possession is a felony in the state of Nevada."

Me, calmly: "So is possession of drug paraphanalia, which is what these are."

Him: "Sir, would you please leave the premises."

Me: "I suppose it would be pointless to ask about rolling papers."

Him: "Sir, please leave the premises or I will have security remove you."

Me, over the shoulder while walking away: "Asshole."

The irony is both the "Dude" and the OP are hazy (pun intended) regarding the law.

If I ask a store clerk a reasonable question and they go Ballistic, "asshole" would be correct.

I think breeze is just venting a bit over the complete bs of this situation, and I feel his pain. I had a hell of a time trying to buy papers on Fremont street. I asked one of the guys at a kiosk and his comment was it would probably be easier to find coke. I did eventually find them at the fifth or sixth place I tried.

Breeze, there was no reason at all for him to ask you to leave the store and to threaten to have security make you leave. I am thinking that the bong manufacturer must have paid off the right politician to make it legal to sell bongs. In a few years, I can see the store selling cannibis lolli pops and baseball cards with cannibis gum inside and you asking if these products entice children to use marijuana before being thrown out.

In order to get rolling papers there you have to buy the loose tobacco pouch that comes with a roll of it (for tobacco of course :poke:)

I agree. Asshole. With so many varying laws from state to state he should have known not everyone knows what can and cannot be sold.

I don't think possession is still a felony btw, http://norml.org/laws/item/nevada-penalties-2

A small circular screen ( like the kind that used to go in a faucet) used to keep your tobacco from falling into the water part of the tobacco-smoking water pipe. Wink wink.

We have the same weird rules here in Berkeley. Head shops along Telegraph and in the Haight (SF) require you to ask for a "water pipe" and will not sell to you if you refer to it as a "bong". Screens have no such restrictions.

My commute in the Seattle area is about 7 miles, 4 of which are not in a commercial area. On the three miles in commercial areas, there are three recreational pot stores, complete with either the inflatable car lot type dancing guy, or an actual person waving around the signs that are typically for pizza shops, both of which are clearly marked marijuana. In other nearby areas, the shops are even closer together. It was somewhat bizarre to me the first time I saw the attention getters for a pot shop.

They are bound by law to call them certain things and get tested by undercovers all the time.

Guy was just doing his job and trying to stay in business.

Basically it's what is legal and what isn't. Screens are illegal. Bongs supposedly (wink wink) can be used for other things that aren't illegal (cough cough - BS) and so they are considered "legal".

Most stores have the right to refuse service to anyone so it is their right to ask someone to leave. The problem is that the OP was trying to question the legality of products and the clerk just got tired of discussing it so he asked the OP to leave. It wasn't up to the clerk to decide what they can sell and what is legal so I understand why he asked the OP to leave, he just didn't want to debate the issue anymore.

I worked as a salesclerk in my younger days and unfortunately met up with some obnoxious people, the clerk probably did the best thing because he didn't want to continue the discussion about what is legal and what isn't.

Find some foil, put it over your finger to form a bowl and poke holes in it.

    Or so I've heard.

Joe, I believe he is referring to the small circular screen that one would put in said "waterpipe" to avoid the medium of choice from being sucked right thru while attempting to smoke... I remember these from the 90's. :peace:
