I was recently at the SouthPoint and stayed one-night last week. I have stayed here many times, this time, it seemed a bit strange. It was very quiet, not many people at the tables, at the machines or eating places. Has anyone heard of anything going on at the SouthPoint?

Haven't heard of anything going on, but I was there for lunch one day last week and it wasn't busy, but seemed ok.

I'm going to a convention there next June. I'm thinking of staying there for the four days I'm there but from what I've heard they only have 6/5 BJ which is bothersome to me. OP, any way to confirm that their BJ is 6/5? Thanks.....

Unless things have changed in the past couple of weeks, good sourse say 20+ 2 deck tables at 3:2, $5 and up----

I should have firsthand report in 2 weeks-----

No recent news stories about either the South Point or its owner, John Gaughan, that I could find. It being privately owned means very little information about its finances will be made public anyway. Must be tough to attract people being so far down the strip. Upcoming showroom headliners list is def geared to an "older" crowd (Tony Orlando, Chubby Checker, The Lettermen, etc)

I will be there next week. It's Michael Gaughan not John. And I will be absolutely stunned if there is any 6/5 BJ in the place.

I would recommend you check out the blackjack survey whenever you have a question about a particular casino's minimum bet requirements, odds, rules etc.:

I was last at SouthPoint in April, I love the place. The crowds very with the type of events going on in the arena but are always (so far) the types of people I like to gamble with. I've seen it go from too crowded (for my taste) to pretty dead in a couple days. I'm guessing the OP just visited during a lull between events.

Absolutely have never seen 6:5 and can almost always find a $5 table with an available seat. Once in awhile there is only one shoe table at $5. I hope this hasn't changed, I'll be there again in about 10 days.

I was there last week. It was busy in the evenings.

I didn't do an extensive survey of the tables, but I didn't see ANY 6/5 in a couple of loops through the table games. Most were $5/$10 (and up) double deck or shoe. I may have missed an odd single deck game with 6/5 but all the games I saw paid 3/2.

    Cheers,
    Kelly

I played $5 DD BJ there about a month ago. It wasn't too empty in the afternoon.
Had a good time at South Point, as always!

It's always packed for football games and it's going to be my first stop after I pick up my rental car.

Was there last week too...happy hour at Zenshin is a very good value with excellent food.

They have so many horse related events there each week that just about every weekend is devoted to cowboys and country music...nothing wrong with that, but it is not our taste. Also, compared to the M, Stations and Boyd's, they don't offer any incentives to locals to play there. Again I think that is related to their almost constant conference and special event business...good for them, but not for us.

Sportsbook is large and exciting, but the chairs are uncomfortable and there is nowhere to plug in a computer or charger...definitely needs an update.

I had planned on stopping there tomorrow night! It's the closest poker room to the M, where I am staying at tomorrow and Thursday! I don't play bj but will check on my way to poker table or craps table. Plus they have some daily 10k giveaways going on!

I visited during my last stay, very impressed with the size of the Sportsbook/Racebook area. Not impressed with the 5th grade desk chairs to sit in.

I do enjoy the cocktail waitress outfits, when worn by the correct woman.
