We have two options for those two nights, Mirage and SP.

Room prices are similar, room size at SP is larger. Casino is bigger and food options seem better at SP.

Just wondering what experiences folks have had at SP?

I've stayed many times at both properties. South Point is great if you're looking for better gambling odds (table and machine), they have tons of video poker, a bunch of bars with machines. There are lots of food options that are decent and better prices than the heart of the strip. BUT, it is a locals casino - it's insanely smoky and will attract a different crowd than the Mirage.

If you're just looking to crash there at SP but spend NYE with the crowd on the strip somewhere then you'll be fine - the rooms are decent size and comfortable. If you're looking to just stay at your home base and party be prepared, again, that it will be a different crowd at SP and you're away from everything else - no walking next door to TI or Caesars.

I love SP but I also like to play a lot of VP - I've had a few trips where I haven't left the building for a few days and had to drag myself north to experience some other casinos. After a while, though, I do start to miss the "full Vegas experience" and need to spend a few trips in the heart of the strip.

Remember that on NYE you'll experience limited access to strip hotels at some time that night. Unless you really need to "bop around" that night, I'd choose SP for reasons stated above. In either case I'd be sure to make dinner reservations well in advance of the trip.

    Good Luck!
