Does anybody know if the books will take action on the Olympics? I'm heading out in a couple weeks and I love snowboarding and hockey?

    Thanks.

I don't believe Vegas books take action on the Olympics.

No, you can't bet on the Olympics at Las Vegas sportsbooks - there is a Nevada law that makes it illegal.

It goes back about 10-15 years ago: in order to allow sportsbooks to continue to accept betting on college sports they had to ban betting on all other amateur sports.

The hockey at the Olympics is anything but amateur.

I wonder if this changed any with the change to allow the books to take action on things like the WSOP. Probably hasn't though, for the OP who asked, you can find books online that take bets for the olympics, from my understanding.

Not sure where you get your info but you can bet on Olympic events

The sports books have even teamed up to stop cheating

Just got back from a trip to Vegas. You definitely cannot bet on the Olympics at the Casino Books, as I inquired about the hockey tournament. However, rumor has it that there are online books whom offer it...or so I've heard...

The "sporting events" Americans have had success in the Winter Olympics are exhibitions (Figure Skating, Snowboarding, Freestyle Skiing (except Ski cross) & Ski Jumping). If your sport has a hug, cry, pout and kiss staging area, stocked with flowers and stuffed animals, it's an exhibition.

Vegas should be able to take bets on actual competitions such as Ice Hockey, Speed Skating, Biathlon, Alpine/Cross Country Skiing etc, but Nevada banned Olympic betting several years ago.

My understanding of this "consulting partnership" is that Nevada teamed up with the Olympics to stop cheating on site and in countries other than the U.S. The Nevada books are not taking action. This article seems poorly written, but I have read more in depth accounts detailing that the Nevada authorities were tapped because of their obvious experience.
