Ha! I hope not! It does illustrate how a reasonably normal looking intersection can turn into a bad situation though. I've been up and down Harmon, as well as Flamingo from Paradise to the Strip a million times. There's always a few "ner-do-well" types mixed in with the tourist crowd going back and forth. In the companion article in the RJ, this fella indicates that he was looking to buy a gun and had he gotten one he was gonna shoot anyone who bothered him. WOW!

This could be any intersection in Las Vegas... for that matter, any intersection in America.

Just a reminder no matter where you are, keep your head on a swivel and maintain that situational awareness. Although to many drinks and it kind of goes away ;)

Key Largo's up on Flamingo... there's a 7-11 at the corner of Flamingo and Koval which draws it's share of the local "talent". The intersection of Harmon and Koval is surrounded by nothin' really, but always seems to have someone standing there hollerin' at traffic or whatever.

Gosh, I don't know... they were tearing it down as of a month or so ago, but I haven't been around that way to see if it's finished.

It doesn't matter where a 7-11 is it attracts trouble.

I saw that years ago, never knew it was in Vegas. Here in WA he would have found himself legally ventilated ;)

    A Walk to Remember......ah...Las Vegas....

    OMG this isn't even funny!

Just after the Hard Rock was built I took some friends who had never been before on a Vegas extravaganza....I had only been once before but I still thought I knew it all. So we were pretty new to walking around and too cheap to take a cab....we were young.

So I had my prettiest sandals on and we were off....to walk to the Hard Rock from the Flamingo. It looks a lot closer on the map.

After a while we were starting to melt...my friends were getting crabby and my feet were hurting. We kept on walking...thinking it would only be a little longer.

A little longer and we weren't there yet. It just kept getting farther and farther away. By this time I was getting blisters on my feet.

We kept moving onward. My friends kept COMPLAINING and by this time I just wanted to stab them because MY feet were bleeding and I wasn't complaining...yet.

Do you think you can walk barefoot to the Hard Rock? Uh....NOOOOOOOOO...the concrete is like a skillet. So my friend's husband gave me a piggyback part of the way back and I suffered the rest.

It was a learning experience FOR SURE! I have never taken a walk like that again in Las Vegas. I learned my lesson over 10 years ago with the bloody, hot, forever-away Hard Rock expedition.

We ended up taking a cab there the next day. Had a nice lunch and did some shopping.

My friends complained pretty much the whole trip so I have never taken (and paid for btw) their trip to Vegas again. My friend complained that she didn't have a pillow on the flight. The friend's husband who gave me the piggy back even complained when we got home b/c " I " didn't remember where we parked the car at the airport....but neither did anyone else for that matter.

I forgave all of them because they are my friends. And after all, the guy gave me a piggyback in the heat of Las Vegas.

And besides, trips like this make for good stories...even if it is at my expense.

Lessons learned. Ah to be young again...NOT!

Don't forget the currently active post and video showing the nutcase beating the crap out of the car stopped at a light. And don't forget the shooting along LV Blvd where the cab burst into flames a few months ago. Yet more reasons NOT to rent a car in Vegas! I DO drink – so it's a no brainer! :)

Those are isolated incidents, accidents happen everywhere and that nut with the crowbar- well, that doesn't happen everyday.

You want to run out to Valley of Fire?? Better have a car. Want to run out to the M?? Better have a car. Having a car opens millions of possibilities, unless you really love being long hauled by cabbies.

Of course those were isolated instances, and I'm certainly not trying to rekindle the never-ending rent vs. not rent car debate. I should have added that or at least a smiley face. I mostly walk, take free shuttles, and use the bus system, while almost all of my time is spent in the casinos. I was just shaking my friend flysrb's tree a little by paraphrasing his comments. :D

lol, I agree. For people who drink like me renting a car is not an option. I'm drunk before the plane lands, and I'm still drunk while boarding it to go home.

Even if you only drink moderately like I do, LV does not seem like a fun place to drive with all the pedestrians and heavy traffic, and people having no idea where they are going, etc. I'll stick to shuttles, my own two feet, the monorail and occasional cab.
