    Crazy? Doable?

Looks like my next week long vacation will be in August and I'm thinking of doing Vegas.

I've done Vegas early July and it was hot, but not going to lie I don't really remember much, which could mean it wasn't that bad or I never really left the hotel.

Sooooo....Is there weather manageable to walk around or wait around for the bus, etc????

    Thanks!

If you're on the Strip it is crazy fricking hot and the long walks can get you very dehydrated. Skip the booze & beer until evening and you are parked at your hotel.

The thing about desert heat is you don't feel yourself perspiring, but you are!:poke: Very easy to get dehydrated.

I've been there in July when the temps were 114' in the shade but never in August. But I've heard that July is typically hotter than August, which is opposite of many places. :)

    Have fun!

We were there last summer, first weekend in August. Holy Crap it was hot. 120 degrees for 4 days. Its true about walking the strip in that heat. You feel like you can barely make it to the next casino! Hydrate and slather in sunscreen. We stayed at the Rio and couldn't lay at the pool for long..had to get in the water to even bear it. But its Vegas...so I think you'll enjoy yourself anyway!

I remember having to dive off The Duece bus and
into The Westward Ho - for water + beers !
It was so hot - even on that bus.
    .
I also remember getting out of The Plaza rooftop pool --
    100+ degrees - w/ a steady breeze blowing .....
and being COLD !!! ( ?)
    .
I don't think a long Strip walk in the afternoon is possible.
Funny thing is....your shirt will be dripping wet --
then 10 minutes into sitting in a casino it's dry again.

We visited last August and didn't find the crowds or heat to be bad. The highs were around 100, which felt like about 88 here in Cleveland. We were comfortable in shorts.

Ever been to Hell in the summer?

    LOL

It's crazy hot. You lay low during the day, nap in afternoon (because heat wears you out) and the night becomes your day...do all that you want to do at night. If you're going to do the pool, spring for a cabana or umbrella, stay out of the sun, it's brutal. It'll fry and dry you out faster than a drop of water on a hot griddle.

As everyone else has said, it is really hot in August. We have gone 2 years in a row and the heat makes me feel like I have the flu.

Sure it's hot in Vegas in August...or as the local TV weather people like to call it, "extra warm."

Doesn't stop me from going in July or August regularly. Just drink lots or water (or other liquid surrogates - many with aclohol included), use chap-stick, and stay out of the sun. Bring a "Can Do" attitude and you'll be fine.

Of course you'll want to stay away from tennis, and the like.

Rita Rudner describes tennis in Las Vegas as:

    "Serve. Return. Burst into flame."

One other tip, leave the curtains to your room closed, and leave a note for housekeeping to do so, keeps room a ton cooler when you're gone and you can open and close as you wish when in room, but radiant heat from the windows in some hotels is big difference. So keep and ask housekeeping to leave closed during day, room will feel so much better when you return to it, especially during day.

We try to go to Vegas every August because of the smaller crowds. We left Dallas last August and it was 110 in Dallas and got to Vegas and it was 102. No problem, just stay hydrated.

Been to Vegas 2 times in August...it's our favorite month right behind April......

It's going to be HOT...SO WHAT....every place is air conditioned to the MAX.....

My biggest tip is when walking the strip walk the side that is shaded at that time of the day....East side in the morning and west side late afternoon....that shade make a HUGE difference...

BTW the week before Labor Day is one of the SLOWEST weeks in Vegas....so CHEAP or COMPED rooms, etc........Easter week too....speaking of Easter it's 6 days until then and our Vegas Trip... :)

Thanks for asking the question. I will be going in August as well, and was wondering how I would hold up. All the comments are appreciated. :peace:

I'm inside most of the time on my trips....however I've gone in August quite a bit. This last year the week I was there it was in the mid 90's so it wasn't too bad. That was the summer it was hotter here in West Texas than it was in Vegas....I think we had like 40 consecutive days over 100 degrees.

It's not as scorching hot as July but it is actually a little humid. Not Chicago humid where the actual temp is 10-15 degrees cooler than the heat index but you will notice that there is a little moisture in the air. Because of that it's still a bit uncomfortable for me but air conditioning makes up for it.

I can only add what others have said. HOT! HOT! HOT!. Stay hydrated WITH water and every chance you get to duck into some air conditioning, do it. Enjoy!

August can bring some whopper monsoonal rainstorms. Short but powerful. Cool to watch, not as cool to drive through.

7am tee time is about as late as I book in August.

Seems like most of Italy closes down for the month of August, so the pools in Vegas can be...nice. ;)

Everyone is spot -on about Vegas summer months. We go every July. First trip I loved the heat, now I respect it. Thought I was a tough guy till dehydration and the Vegas sun showed me who in charge in that house.
Lost two days of my vacation just trying to get my body temp. stable.
We still go back every year, but with a new plan, wear a hat in the sun, wear sunscreen, drink Gatorade morning, noon, and nite. (along with various other liquids),and know when to say when. This and little R-E-S-P-E-C-T goes a long way in assuring fun in the Vegas sun.
