So they didn't keep the NASCAR Cafe, huh? Bummer. That place was just oozing with class. LOL.

Do they have a poker room?

No poker room, that's not surprising though as there's only about half a dozen or so poker rooms in town that are successful anymore.

On weekends, they will have a brunch from 8am-4pm, at least that's what's on the website.

I'd much rather have the nascar café crowd than wall to wall hipsters and LA d bags that place is going to be overflowing with.

It is basically across the street from The STRAT . The monorail goes right to it, as does SDX/Deuce.

It is 2.2 miles from Bellagio, which is what most people consider the center. The Strat is another .3 miles farther.

Nope... "we" have already practically universally condemned the place. It wasn't built by Jackie, Bennie or the Boyd family, I mean c'mon, the head guy is Sam Naze... Nazar... oh hell, I can't even pronounce it let alone spell it... he ain't from around these parts!!! He purports to put a little bit of LA in Las Vegas! LA? "We" hates LA!!! His casino is small AND it doesn't have a damn ceiling!!! Now we don't mind sawdust on the floor, but "we" gots ta have a ceiling to keep the smoke low for our gamblin' ambiance. That's how it was in the mob days, that's how it must be now! This new-fangled SLS has a pool and nightclubs... "we" don't like that! It's gonna attract those LA trust-fund babies who spend on daddies credit card. What's gonna happen when the credit-card is maxed-out??? Huh??? What with their fancy bottle-service and all... if I'm gonna dump a couple grand, I'll do it the ole fashioned way by handin' it over to an ugly old dealer... not by dancin' the night away with pretty girls.

All "we" want is good gamin' odds and stuff for free, you know comps... and of course, a small, spartan room with a cot, shitter and shower. You can even put the shitter in the shower to save space... who spends any time in the room anyways? Losers that's who!!! I can poop while I shampoo to save time. Ya gots ta be shovin' those machines with money at all hours of the day like us, else you're not doin' Vegas right. The name SLS makes no sense and neither does that stupid blob artwork out front where my WAX bus pulls up... what the hell is that thing anyways... we don't have such stuff back in the heartland... it makes no sense. They could've saved the money on that and put in a few more slot machines or something' else "we" want. And don't take a cab there... "we" have heard the cabbie will take a couple laps around that stupid blob thing just to run up your bill by fifty or sixty cents... hell... you could get a cup of coffee for that downtown or you can even split a single chicken-wing with a stranger down at the Fremont for that kinda money. "We" don't eat much ya know... money is for savin' or gamblin'... "we" don't spend it in the shops or mini-bars.

I heard tell there was even some families wandering' the SLS with some kids... in STROLLERS... OMG... STROLLERS on property. Dwight D. Eisenhower wouldn't approve and neither do "we"!!! Why... ya don't see no strollers down at the El Cortez... just a fleet of oxygen tanks to trip over like it's supposed to be!

And everyone knows it's just a matter of time before they put in a zip-line from the monorail over to the property! "We" all agree that zip-lines ruin everything!!!!

Seriously though... I'm excited to check it out next week... I'm probably already a bit biased though, as I like a $450 million dollar investment into the community and 3,000 jobs for a town that got triple-whacked during the recession.

To clarify. Sam Nazarian, the Miami and LA hotel and club guru, is only the front man for "his" casino. 10% ownership or thereabouts.
It was financed through SF based Stockbridge Investments who raised the money by getting over 1/2 the needed money from EB-5 visas sold to 1000's of Chinese.
Sam couldn't get a casino license either.
He does clubs and food real well. Casinos, not so much.
The rooms are 350 sq. ft.
This place will never compete with Cosmo, which it has imitated poorly.

Agree i think Hard Rock and Palms is a fairer comparison. Although Hard Rock is on life support but so are many other properties.

Tropicana Blvd anchors the South Strip, Flamingo Blvd anchors the Mid Strip, Wynn Main Gate anchors the North Strip. The area North of the Gate is sinking or has already sunk.

Yes, this is right. Except the $115mm EB-5 money represented somewhere less than 20% of the entire project investment and was raised from 230 foreigners under the visa program ($500k each). I wrote a post about it here, though erroneously wrote $150mm from the EB-5 program instead of $115mm: https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?109620-sls-owners-sam-talks-about-vip-treatment-and-perks&p=986484#post986484

Even if SLS is a bad imitation of Cosmo or another Hard Rock/Palms it doesn't have the same heavily leveraged capital structure those properties have (or had). Stockbridge put in a significant amount of equity, roughly half the total funding. The EB-5 money is interest-free (just a 0.5% cost of cash), then $300mm in secured bank loans for construction which will be cheap, and perhaps some smaller junior or bridge debt they needed along the way. Hopefully with that kind of elbow room they focus on investing in customer loyalty and longer term things like that, instead of being hamstrung by short-term financial concerns like Cosmo was right from the beginning.

Ok I'm missing something what the heck is a SLS. When we were out there the cab driver told us about a hotel that went bankrupt while it was being built, Its been two years since we were there. Our trip this year fell throught.

A buddy of mine is hell bent on staying here in mid November. I'll be watching this thread in the next few weeks and would love to hear board members opinions of the rooms and restaurants and how they compare to mid strip properties like the MGM Grand or Mirage (our other choices).

The problem with SLS is not really the rooms or restaurants, although the buffet is priced relatively high, but the location. You are in the middle of nowhere, in a less than desirable area, close to casino hotels that are struggling holding onto the budget crowd, with a hotel that supposed to appeal to the younger, more affluent LA club crowd, when you have hotels like Cromwell, Wynn, Cosmo, PHO, MGM, etc that cater to the same people but in a more desirable location.

    @AliceFaye

The cab driver may have been talking about Echolon/Resorts World, which is where the Stardust used to be. Hopefully the new hotel/casino in a couple of years will bring back the North Strip. But in the meantime...........

Yeah, but my friend plans to take the monorail or cabs to mid strip. They are quoting a pretty good price, $138/night for the weekend. I'm not crazy about it since most of my gambling is with MGM properties. But MGM apparently isn't too pleased with my play from last time so they are only offering me slightly cheaper than SLS.

Whenever I come to this board I see another angry rant from you aimed at the rest of the members. This is an incredibly mean and insulting post.

I was just invited for a tour of SLS with a host and I was very disappointed. I was looking forward to this opening for a long time. I enjoy the top hotels, top restaurants, and top clubs in Vegas and was hoping this would be another option. But that wasn't the case.

My friends who have stayed there on opening weekend all felt the same. Everyone whose opinions I trust thinks it is a let down.

The lukewarm reviews being posted on TA and Yelp are from people who actually visited the property or stayed at the property and they are there to inform other people who are interested in the property.

Yet you think its ok to insult everyone on those boards and on this board with a post like yours above because they are not blindly ignoring the early reviews and news about the hotel.

What you term as an "angry rant" is my attempt at sarcastic humor... please don't take such offense, it's not meant in that spirit. I think most folks recognize that the part you conveniently cut out, that stated "seriously though" indicated as such... :poke: I apologize for raising your blood pressure. I'm ashamed of myself.
