A buddy and I go to Vegas a few times a year, and we always made it to Slots-A-Fun for some cold draft beer, video poker, and a lot of talk about when we were young.

Now that Slots-A-Fun is corporate, it is just not the same and we are looking for a another place of similar character, before all of the changes were made to Slots-A-Fun. Any suggestions ??

We stay on the strip and always walked to Slots, stopping along the way for a beer and some play.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    slots of fun

I go to vegas every year to play pool at the Riviera and I would spend day and night at slot of fun. It was so depressing to see they took out the table games! It is ruined..I totally agree. They closed OShea's, so I really think your best option is to go downtown. It is only 3 miles away..and if you see how they are developing downtown into a cool spot, that is the best option..El Cortez ha really cool suites for the price of a cheap hotel on the strip, their slots are way looser, and it is really easy to find full pay VP and $ 3/2 BJ. You meet the same type of people downtown that you would at slots of fun...so why do you think you need the strip? The Duece is cheap. IRental cars are 150 a week. You stay downtown once, you will always get 2 nights free at 4 queens as long as you get their players card You will never get that playing on the strip.

Try Casino Royale, they have a lot of cheap drink specials. O'Shea's, which i used to love, is coming back and shouldn't be long before it's done.

I miss Slots-O-Fun, but I really miss the Westward Ho.

O'Sheas deteriorated into a CET hellhole (All BJ 6/5, non playable VP) and I expect the replacement to offer the same low minimum / high house edge games. Casino Royale is good for craps, but they also have exclusive 6/5 BJ (Their BJ Switch offering has better odds but it has far more difficult strategy to learn).

Downtown is a good alternative. You can also find decent places off-strip along Boulder, in Henderson or south of Mandalay Bay (South Point & Silverton) for $5 BJ with decent rules, nickel or quarter VP with decent paytables and cheap food & drink specials which made places like the Westward Ho and Slot-O-Fun actually fun places to visit / gamble. Skyline is a fun little casino to visit in Henderson. Jerry's Nugget is a nice North Las Vegas casino catering to the low-roller.

Casino royale will be about the closest.

They have not cleaned the pplace so its still fun and cheap but they did add a food court with big hot dogs and other royale quality inedibles.

    Great stuff there.

Also the stagedoor is a blast. Cheap beers and dogs. Its right across the street from the bally sportsbook entrance.

As others have mentions Northern/Mid strip-- Casino Royale
South strip--- Hooters is my cheap place to go -- really fund atmosphere and just feels a lot cleaner than CR. Plus if you don't want to play and just buy drinks, Bud lights are $2 or 2.50
Plus there's always tons of places downtown--- Mermaids is always fun for drinks and a little bit of grime....lol

Oh yes, Slots of Fun. The day with them, Westward Ho and the Stardust. What an area. A dealer named Paco at Slots of Fun. He was friendly and I would almost always walk away a winner, or at least he made things so fun that didn't really care. That would have been in the 80's, oh how things have changed.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away......OK, it was 1979 north strip, i stayed at the Westward Ho, and had "Fun" at "Slots o". The Westward Ho, a property so enormous that you would need to take a cab from the Strip to your room..........i kid you not.

Those of us that yearn for the "Good 'ol Days" are mostly in the mature generation! Vegas has gone from seedy gambling sin city, to let's spend our family vacation there, to let's party hard and try not to run over any old F****! I'm not sure which era I liked the most but this one we are in now just reminds me of spring break. The gambling has devolved to pay for all this and the casinos have run the most sucessful PR campaign in history---Our slot machines are fun to play! They better be fun because their payouts can be brutal. My idea of fun is coming home with some of their money and still getting comps!!!!
