Do you go through different Slot Machine phases? A lot of times a game will come along and be everywhere like the different Star Wars games and then all of a sudden poof they vanish…

When I started going to Vegas on a regular basis back in 2006 I fell in love with Stampede. This was a 25 cent mechanical 3 reel game before the video craze hit. I loved the cheesy graphics and that cowboy saying; It’s a Stampede! Round ‘em Up Yi Yi! At the same time I was really into Wheel Of Fortune which is still one of my favorite games but I find myself playing it less and less. I enjoy playing games that are either spinners or have decent bonus rounds. There are some games I consider to be novelty games. If you’re not a slot player then I imagine they are all novelty games to you but keep in mind I’m speaking to the Slot Geeks out there.

I used to stay clear of the multi line - multi credit Penny and Nickel games back then because I did not understand them. That is until I found Alien and then later Alien Vs. Predator. They were always fun to play and that’s when I began to understand how those multi line games worked. Later I went through a phase of playing the early video type games such as; Texas Tea, Wolf Run and Cleopatra. But I would always fall back on the 3 reel mechanical WOF as my go to machine but even they are becoming harder to find. I enjoy playing Double Jackpot 7's a lot and I have to play The Green Machine at least once whenever I see one. On my last visit to Vegas I discovered Return Of The Sphinx at Bellagio which I had never played before and it was fun to play. Currently my latest fad is Zeus. I started playing it at my local Casino, The Hard Rock in Tampa and I can’t get enough of it. I may have to look for it the next time I’m in Vegas.

So when you are in Vegas have you found yourself drawn to a particular game?

I really liked the big Clue game, but it sounds like in the span of less than a year they've been pulling all of them out. Frustrating because it's unlikely to be anywhere in Vegas by the time I get a chance to make it out there again. My phases tend to revolve around the manufacturer more than the game. They each have a fairly distinct feeling. I usually avoid IGT like the plague though. Just don't find their games fun.

We pretty much only play the multi-line, multi-credit video penny machines and only the ones with pop-culture themes we like - Star Trek, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, etc. We just can't get interested in some of the ones that other people love - Blazing 7s, generic things like Cleopatra or Zeus or whatever. They just seem boring. We also don't tend to like the ones based on game shows, maybe because we don't watch any of the shows. We want a familiar theme with great lights, video and sound that we can get into and it has to have multiple kinds of bonuses and features. It's just brain candy. It's not like we'll ever actually win anything. The money we put in is just to pay for the entertainment time/value of the theme.

I loved playing the Star Wars machines at Paris. They only had 2 and that was my first stop. I was so disappointed this trip when I found that they had been replaced by the new Buffalo machines. I know a lot of people do really well playing the Buffalo machines, but they HATE me. It doesn't matter which version I play they just take my money--very fast!!

Can't it explain it but it is more the game itself than if reels or video.
Some reel slots keep me playing a while and others are plain old boring.
Some video slots can keep me playing a while and others just don't do it.
Maybe its the potential win or bonus frequency. Not really sure and don't really care because I play which ever keeps me amused.

Yes, usually it's because I won something, or played for a long time on a certain machine without losing too badly haha.

This is mine right now "The Munny Returns" haha it's so dumb, but the bonus hits ALL the time. I can usually play for a really long time, and max bet is only $1.25. There is also a fish version that's the same thing. "Goldfish Giveaway"

I've seen it at both Venetian and MB. It's very ugly and unassuming, the ones at Mandalay are so beat up haha, but it's a good game!

I can't get into those weird older ones that are like random "Zeus fantasy" they never make any sense to me, and they are so boring! There is a line between flashy and fun and TOO flashy, some of the really fancy ones, pay terribly.

I think with the new games they just change out the video and it's a new game. I love playing the Idol slots, because I love idol, and the now they are all Sex and the City or something else. But it's the same machines in the same places.

I used to play top dollar only on the rare occasion I play slots. But then I found pinball and actually like it better because the bonus rounds are cumulative instead of chances. That way you always get the max you're going to get. Nothing worse than passing on offers and ending up with crap.

My husband fell in love with the Dirty Dancing slot last spring. Then this past fall, the only place I could find it was at the Plaza. In May of this year we couldn't find it anywhere. It would give you enough hits you could play for a long time on $20 and the bonuses were fun. Wish it were still around!

I remember Stampede, that was a good one!

I always like the new Dark Knight game, as well as Ghostbusters. It's hard as a novice to find machines with long playability (as one poster mentioned, they found a machine which stretched $20) so I at least want to enjoy myself. I have done okay on the ones above and I also enjoy the video blackjack in Monte Carlo, with the virtual dealer. Lasted three hours on $100 and left with $215. Not a slot machine but this was my guilty pleasure the last time around.

I really enjoyed the Star Wars slots from the mid 2000s the one with the Death Star that would spin up top to reveal your spins/no. of multipliers, only one left is at Stage Door :(

Also like the first Jaws game, probably because I hit the grand jackpot 3 times in Vegas, those are all gone

I'm not a huge fan of most of the Aristocrat games.

Generic? I see them as Themed games no different than some of the ones you listed. Thing is a few weeks ago I was playing a $1 Zeus at Hard Rock.
The Min Bet was $5 and the Max Bet was $50. I was playing the Min. The lady next to me was playing $15 a pull and had over $2,400 on her machine.
    I switched to $15 and was hitting $500 bonuses left and right. I figure $100 @ $5 a pull or $300 @ $15 a pull... Either way I have 20 chances to win!
Headed back over there tomorrow to try my new strategy.
