Is this misc. Vegas chat? Not sure.

So, can you walk up to the new and improved restaurant in the Golden Gate and get a shrimp cocktail quick and easy? That's something I like to do when I'm downtown.

I tried a 99-cent shrimp cocktail at the Fremont last time. (I think, not sure, but I'd know the location if I saw it.) It wasn't good.

The good 'ol days are long gone, we all now that, but is there anywhere else serving a decent shrimp cocktail at bargain rates?

Sort of. You have to be seated, but you can order just a shrimp cocktail.

You can sit at the counter for quick service.
They don't have the $.99 one any longer, just the larger one for $2.99.
    Still a deal.

that sounds like an OK compromise. is the $2.99 version the same version size as the former $1.99 version?

    the new and improved restaurant?

    are you referring to dupar`s?

just my opinion but I sure do not consider dupar`s an improvement over the old bay city diner or the great deli that they closed.

food aside, they took dupar's from a cafeteria style lunch line and moved it to a different part of the building, so i have read, and now it's a sit-down restaurant. new and improved is subjective, but i'm not referring to the food being served. we all know dupar's sucks compared to what use to be there. it's the vegas way.

If you're downtown between 3 and six on a tues-fi afternoon the peel and eat shrimp at the 777 in MSS is $4.50, and it's fantastic. I haven't yet tried the Golden Gate version to compare.

They are completely different animals. I would say they were both the best around in their own category. Sadly I normally arrive on Sat and leave on Tues, so I rarely get to do the 777 one.

    I stand corrected.

I went there a week ago. There was a wait to be seated inside the restaurant. The host heard me say that all we wanted was a shrimp cocktail.

She said, "we sell them to-go here (at the host/pie take-out/ stand). You can eat it at one of those tables." She pointed to the five or six tables that were just outside the restaurant proper. So that's what we did, bought a $2.99 shrimp cocktail in a plastic cup, and ate it at a table by the pie case. Still a good bargain, still quick and easy.

Okay, now I've tried both. The shrimp at 777 happy hour is now $4.99. It's still amazing, with (typically) more than the 20 promised med/lrg peel and eat shrimp over ice with lemon wedges and a cup of cocktail sauce. The one at du-pars is a cocktail glass filled with small shrimp and smothered in a spicy cocktail sauce. Shrimp are already peeled. It comes with a couple of saltines. Both are good, but my vote, even considering the price, is for the 777 version.

Will have to try the 777 next time. I was there for happy hour one afternoon, but I didn't want a table, as I wasn't planning to be there long, and there were no seats at the bar. Thankfully you could get a pint of microbrew at the casino bar 24/7 for $1.75, and hardly anyone was sitting there. Worked for me.

Has anyone used the b1g1 shrimp coupon when getting it to go?? would bring the cost back down to almost old prices... (1.50 each vs 99 cents)

I'd like to pop in just to get a quick snack...

    thanks!

No, but last time I was in there I saw several people getting them to go. I think that is the way I will go next time. The glass was larger, so it wasnt full, and they had more room to mix the stuff. I used the BOGO at the counter and it was 2 something for the 2.
