Sigh. Just got back from Vegas. Went with a buddy who hadn't gone in a while, did a lot of fun stuff. Took a bit of a beating on gaming. Had fun.

I had already booked a comp room at Downtown Grand and Cosmo for MLK weekend since I am a solo traveler mostly, and the quick turnaround means I did not have to worry about getting certain things done on the last trip.

For this next trip, travel is free. Both hotels comp resort fees. Flights free with SW points. I will be there for Saturday-Tuesday, and only have to take one day off of work due to the holiday. I can take the bus around town. All of these are a great deal that I don't think I will get to line up quite like this again.

But now I am second-guessing. I would have to really curb my spending while I am there due to the losses this week.

Should I stay or should I go?

I guess if "curbing" your spending means a severe reduction in your Vegas "experience"... maybe you shouldn't. I go all the time for business and I live in Nevada, so gaming's cool, but it's not the MAIN thing for me. For many, possibly you, it is and I can sure see how being there, but not being able to indulge in the manner or to the level you prefer might actually be worse than not going. It's also a cross-country trip for you, which can add some fatigue on the back end of the visit.

I'd go, but then you can ask my family, I look for any reason to be in Las Vegas! I've gone down just for lunch, but then I'm only an hour's flight away and I find lots of Vegas interesting and fun, not just the casino.

Suggest you just plan to cut your gaming in half and play conservative. What may happen is that by playing "smart" you may actually end up being even money for the trip and possibly be a little ahead for the trip and not down and out as on previous trips. Try playing not to lose and not so much as to win. Google up "things to do in Vegas" and go do some of the "never done before" things. Good luck!

I should clarify I am in California for the next few months, so the flight is short. That's another thing, the flight is short now while I am able to be out here in CA.

I like to gamble and drink, and am not averse to trying some new things. Last trip I went to the Pinball Hall of Fame. I just don't want to go there and only do cheap new things just for the sake of their cheapitude.

I without a doubt would go ...... even if its just people watching or walking around.

Seriously - a boring day in Vegas is probably better than just doing whatever else locally. And who knows - you may get on a roll.

Kid at the local Indian casino on his second spin won 157k. So there's a chance.

Are you an NFL fan? The AFC and NFC conference championship games will be that Sunday. That's something fun to watch without having to spend much money.

It looks like a few other folks will be in town during your dates if you're interested in meeting other VMBers: http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101259

Hard to post this response but I say stay.
First, I took a bad beating and it took a while for the sting to go away, but once it did the urge to go hit me which is the best time to go. After a bad betting if you go back too soon and take another beating it will leave an even worse feeling and longer to get over.

Two, if you are questioning the trip that is a sign to skip.

We questioned scheduling a trip and opted to push it out just a month or two further. Sure enough by that time the urge was at full force and there was no question.

    Oh for Pete's sake......

So i decided to go! My way to make the funds work was to ultra-low-micro-roll on day one. You know, see how many drinks i could get on 1-cent slot spins.

But now, apparently I have to go to a baby shower that weekend!? I don't see how men got dragged in to this baby shower business. Apparently, I am in the minority. A buddy of mine, whom i figured would be the last person to go, has already committed and he thought it was nothing unusual. So apparently I was the last person to get that memo.

    :grrr:

    Baby shower puh lease.

Man up - tell them you have Vegas plans and wish them the best.

Even my wife would ditch a baby shower for Vegas
