Hi everybody. I live in Ann Arbor, MI and usually fly out of Detroit on Delta to get to Vegas. Until recently, Delta and Spirit were the only nonstop Vegas flights from DTW (and I'm not gonna fly Spirit).

Southwest it seems recently added a nonstop flight to Vegas. I can get a roundtrip ticket for $220 right now for a few days in early December, which is amazing. Cheapest I ever saw Delta go for was $330 + baggage fees.

This seems too good a deal to pass up to me. But my buddy I usually go with is "all Vegas-ed out" for a while so I'd be going by myself.

I really feel like I shouldn't pass up a deal this good. I'm not a high roller by any means, but I can get a cheap room (not free) at the Monte Carlo or Mirage based on my previous play. I'm leaning towards a 3 day stay at Monte, since I feel like they'd be more generous to me based on my play (Monte rates BJ at $15 per hand, Mirage only at $25) and they're the only MLife hotel in Vegas that has Caribbean Stud, which I really enjoy.

I just feel like it'd be strange to be there alone, even though I really want to go. I'm 24. Not really a club guy or a partier. I just like to gamble, walk around, drink some, and eat good food.

And if I do go, which should I stay at, Monte Carlo or Mirage?

Sounds like Monte Carlo is right up your alley.

I'd love to find airfare that cheap so I'd say go for it!

I took a solo trip and enjoyed it.

I love my solo trips so I say go for it. I mean you didn't actually expect any of us to say don't go, did you :) It is a Vegas forum.

I actually really like gambling at the Monte Carlo - I haven't stayed there since they first opened. I like that they have the fast food court. If you can get rated there at $15 vs. $25, that's where I'd stay.

I once did Vegas alone, and although it was nice to be able to gamble whenever or wherever I wanted I actually found it kinda boring at times. Now I'm not trying to discourage you from going just giving you my perspective of my trip. I enjoy drinking different specialty cocktails. If you do that with someone else and you get drunk no big deal your just having fun. Now go get drunk by yourself and it takes a twist, not as much fun. Your the drunk creep now.
Also I found at night to be the most depressing I'm married so wasn't trying to hook up, and most people are in Vegas with a group of friends so its kinda hard to meet up with people to hang out with for the night.
Now I'm sure there are others that disagree with me and have had there best trips when there solo, but mine wasn't that much fun.

I have stayed at both multiple times and I prefer Mirage, mainly because it has the better sportsbook, better spa, and better pool (which probably won't matter considering when you are going).

But MC is good too. used to stay there a lot and still pop in from time to time for some food.

Don;t worry about going solo. I do it all the time. You'll have fun!

I was a bit apprehensive about my first solo trip too. Now they are my favorite kind. Don’t worry; you’ll be able to keep yourself entertained just fine. About the only caveat I’d offer is to make sure you are disciplined with your bankroll. You can find yourself playing a lot more on solo trips. At least I do.

If MC rates at $15 and Mirage at $25, and $15 is your comfort level, then that’s where I’d stay.

I think it mostly depends on your budget. At 15/hand, monte carlo is the way to go. but if you have a budget you can work with, i'd go with the mirage. better rooms, sportsbook, poker room with tables the majority of the day, restaurants, and better location.
I really enjoy the bar adjacent to the sports book. lot of seats compared to the one next to the MC sportsbook. great drink service right next to the sportsbook is always a plus

Don't worry about a solo trip. They can be a lot of fun. When my friend and I go we always plan it so he gets in two days before me and I leave two days after he is gone. It really adds something when you have no one else's schedule to worry about. I've also found that I'm much more willing to chat up the other people at the table if I'm going solo. I've ended up meeting and talking with a lot of fun people that way.

The main drawback that I've noticed is that your meals go by much faster and you'll end up with more time in a day than normal. Not a problem if positive variance is on your side at the table, but can be a bummer when not.

Do not worry about the rating. At $15 a hand, while they may rate you, it's not going to get you much...so go and have fun.

I'm a Monte Carlo guy. But I also don't like vegas alone. But from MC, you can easily walk to NYNY which has some good hang out spots for a solo, plus if you want to go the other way Aria is an easy walk too.

Vegas solo is great, just eat at the bar at the restaurants. My first solo trip was accidental some friends had to cancel last minute. But I said what the hell I'm going and had an awesome time. Now about every other trip is solo. It's a blast and you chat a lot more with people at the tables.

I've traveled to Las Vegas in the following ways:

    With girlfriend.
    With wife.
    With friends.
    With wife + another couple.
    With wife + adult children.
    With adult son.
    Solo.

Take my word for it: Solo trips are the best!!

Cost = Fraction of other ways.
Gambling= Anytime you want, anywhere you want, any stakes you want.
    Meals = ditto.
Sleep = When you want for as long (or as short) as you want.
Naps = Whenver you want for as long as you need.
Shows = Yes. They sell single tickets. No bitching or complaining if they don't like the same acts as you.
Schedule = Always leave to or from when you're ready.

Things you'll never hear on a solo trip:

    "I'm too tired."
    "I just ate."
    "We were just there."
    "We never go there."
    "I have a headache!"
    "You lost how much??!!"
"You won how much? Don't I get half??!!"
"You always want to do that."
"You never want to do what I want."
"You want me to do what??!!"

    'Nuff said?

MC sounds like the right place for you.

As far as solo trips go - just about everyone on the Strip is looking to party and have fun, so don't be shy. Some of my most interesting moments in Vegas have been the result of going up to perfect strangers and talking to them.

    Go for it.

Ive done a couple solo trips now, and loved them. There is some trepidation beforehand, and you might get weird looks from people when you tell them you are going on your own, but its a great time, especially if you're not a partier.

With gambling, especially table games, it can be so personal. Maybe you want to play more/less than your buddy, or at different limits, or different games. Maybe you like different shows or different restaurants. Whatever it is, chances are most of your Vegas vacations up until now have been "negotiated".

While having buddies there can be wonderful (shared memories), it is wonderful once in awhile to have a trip where the agenda is 100% yours. Try that restaurant your buddy always shot down. Play how you like without having to cut it off to go meet up.

As for where to stay, that's a personal call, but it sounds like you'd rather play at the MC, so why not stay there?

Also, good find on Southwest finally flying direct and the nice rate. Too bad its still only once a day, probably won't fit my schedule. But any competition to Delta/Spirit helps.

I'm definitely leaning towards going. Usually when I go with my friend we stay for 5 or 6 nights. This trip will just be a quick 3 nighter if I go. So if I'm miserable (I don't expect to be) it won't be too painful.

My only real fear is running through my bankroll too quickly and having nothing left to do.

As for Monte vs. Mirage: I've stayed at the Mirage before. I really liked it. Love the location and the rooms are very nice. I've gambled a lot at the Monte because they have decent BJ tables and they are one of the only places left with Caribbean Stud. Never stayed there tho.

I have a special offer from MLife for Mirage rates from like $29/night or Monte at $25/night. I'm gonna call later and give them my exact dates and see exactly how much each one will cost.

I'm actually taking my second ever solo Vegas trip on November 12th.

Really looking forward to it! Like the previous posters said, it's great not having to worry about what the other person(s) in your party want or don't want to do. It's all about you!

    Have fun.

Why not just go? There are tons of people in LV solo and you can be as social as you want. If you take one solo trip, I bet it won't be your last.

I love solo Vegas trips. I'm also a big fan of partially-solo trips, which have been my last half-dozen trips or so; there was one completely solo trip in there, but the rest have been a couple days with friends and a couple days on my own. It's nice to spend time with friends doing group stuff, and also have a day or two to just play craps and sit at the bar. My upcoming Thanksgiving trip is two days on my own, and then my buddy is showing up Sunday afternoon for the tail end of the trip, and I'm looking forward to that setup.

As for Monte Carlo vs. Mirage, I've never been a big fan of MC, but Mirage has been grating on me a bit over the last couple trips. I absolutely love the restaurants and bars (Stack and Rhumbar, in particular), and the blackjack tables are fun, but craps is consistently pretty dead, to the point where most of the time there's only one or two tables running and they're not particularly active. I keep hoping they turn it around, but for the time being I'm sticking with Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, and Aria.
