    Hey all,

When I go to Vegas I go with my bro. But looks like he's out this year...and so if travel guy #2.

Yah I could MAYBE convince another person to go with me...and I'm not a big spender, but if people are not interested in spending any money on gambling (or like 1/2 an hour just trying it out) then that doesn't work so well. I know that it won't be the true Vegas experience I desire and will feel like I spent $ on airfare and hotel to spend time in some ways that I enjoy (wandering around, going to the pool, checking out Peppermill etc) but that something is lacking.

So I could go by myself...
I might not go to the pool then...as being by a pool by yourself wouldn't be that fun for me.

I hear people say 'I love solo trips because I don't have to work on anyone's schedule except my own'. The truth is that when I go with my bro I pretty much make the schedule. I love to research ahead of time and see if there are things to do and see that we haven't yet...and he's happy enough to just follow that schedule.

I don't mind alone time here and there...but I'm not sure that I want it on a trip, I like to experience things with people.

I've got a wife, a newborn baby but just lost my job. feel like I need to get out of this small town for a bit.

Tell me why or why not you would go on a solo trip. (I've seen a thread like this before but I am wondering if this might generate other responses that weren't mentioned.

    Thanks

I wondered the same thing before I went solo and truthfully I loved it. I have taken several solo's and they're nice because of what you mentioned - not operating on anyone's schedule but my own. I go to Vegas to gamble...and that means long hours standing at various craps tables or sitting in a sportsbook and that doesn't always appeal to my friends or girlfriends.

I am one who will chat up strangers and two of my favorite things, the craps and sports, are social activities. So I can plop down in the book and bullshit with whomever is around me and make friends.

The only way to really know if you'll enjoy it is to do it. Start off with a small trial trip like 2-3 nights and see how you like it. The great thing about Vegas is it can be done a million different ways - try the solo way. You can still plan like you enjoy doing!

I've done solo a few times now and always had a great time.

What I will often do on a business trip is fly out a day early and have a night to myself. I'll do this in some places other than Las Vegas as well.

Do it! I just booked my first solo trip and I can't wait for it! I've been other places by myself but have yet to take a solo trip to Vegas and I'm sure I'll enjoy the hell out of it.

Vegas might be the best city there is do it solo. I have done like 15 of them over the years and LOVED going solo. For the freedom alone and usually always able to get a seat at the bar for drinks ( and or dinner).

Not only do you get to be on your own schedule for the entire time (doesn't really affect you) but you get to wander around on your own. You will realize that you get to introspect on yourself, sort things out in your mind, enjoy your own company. (this may be perfect for you considering your place in life right now). Being solo in LV is unlike solo anywhere else. I don't enjoy traveling solo elsewhere as I want to share the experience with my husband but I wouldn't give up my solo trips to LV ever.

I agree that Vegas is the best place to do solo. I've traveled a bit for business and usually tack on days at the beginning or end of the trip, and don't enjoy that as much as I do my Vegas solo trips. I usually go twice a year, once with my BF, and the other a solo trip, as he just doesn't like to go as often. If it's your first solo trip, then I'd make it a short one, in case you really don't enjoy it. Maybe have a list of things you'd like to do, as when you are solo, you do tend to spend more time gambling.

i think a solo trip would be awesome. i could possibly see if you were losing money you could get depressed cuz you are alone or cuz you just lost your job. But from my experiences I love doing things by myself. You get to do whatever you want whenever you want to, and im pretty sure if you wanted to, you could find someone you happened to like chatting to at a table or wherever. I like what smerrian said about the introspective nature of being alone by choice and what it can do for your mind. if you do it, i hope you have a really nice time.

It's certainly your life and you r choice, but given the above statement, I would say - No. Do not go solo...do not go period.
After you're working again and your finances are solid enough to support a family (and they may be right now...how can I know?), then, take your trip.

As for solo trips in general?
I like them just fine...not as much fun as they are with a 'vegas buddy', but still fun. Of course, I just go to gamble, so I am obviously quite easily entertained when I'm out there - solo or otherwise.
I always end up chatting with others at the tables, so there's still plenty of social interaction.

Anyway - not trying to preach or anything, but I know if you were my son, I would advise you to wait until the employment situation was on solid ground.

    Hard to argue this.
I love solo trips, but given the current situation I'll agree with topcard here. Maybe your bro isn't going in an effort to keep you home, but that's total speculation on my part.

Well, if your new family is fine with it, I say go. If you discover you don't like it, then at least that's one thing you'll know and will not speculate anymore.

I love going solo because I love to gamble. The long hrs. at the tables are no fun for a friend or significant other that doesn't share the same passion. I like going solo but it takes a backseat when I can go with my wife. Unfortunately she doesn't like to go to Vegas as much as me. When I go with my wife we do other things beside gamble.

Though there is less money coming in right now..my wife has always made considerably more $ than me.

So financially that probably isn't an issue. She is the one that suggested that I go to Vegas with a buddy - I just can't find one that can go.

Even if I think id like to try Vegas by myself...I'm not sure I could convince my wife that a solo trip is a good idea. Not that she'd be afraid of me loosing the house or something, she just knows that I like experiencing things with people. So she may be the harder sell than me for a solo trip.

Last summer I added two nights to a company trip and really enjoyed it. It was nice doing whatever I wanted when I wanted. One night I played VP until the wee hours of the morning which is something that wouldn't happen on trips with the wife. The last three years I did a father/son trip driving from Texas but after last year I think the driving is too much for my dad so he's talking about going to Louisiana instead. If that happens I am going to try and schedule a solo trip during the Nascar awards in December. So I would say go for it.

I was hoping to do a solo trip but fleas jumped on this cool cat!

I hope to do a solo trip, the freedom alone to do what I want or not worry if others are happy is worth it. Plus Vegas is a grate place to chat up random people.

You have problems that run deeper than taking a solo trip. A wife, a young child and no job and you want to skip town for a few days to go to Vegas?

You better speak to someone you are closer to than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Does she have a sister? :evillaugh

just kidding..... approaching a silver anniversary in 8 months, man, how time flies......sometimes you just have to get the heck out of Dodge and blow the stink off yourself.....travel has a great way of hitting the human reset button and LV is the best place to do it. I've done a solo trip, it was for a trade show so my days were filed up. My biggest regret was that I didn't spend an extra two days or so, but I had just become self employed and couldn't have too much fun.

If this trip puts a strain on the marriage, its not worth the repercussions or the future quid pro quo statement from your bride: "Well, you were the one who went to Vegas by yourself". If you can convince the bride, can swing it financially and have child care for your son lined up, I say go for it. Just bring back a prize for your sweetheart.

Yah, if she wouldn't have suggested it...it wouldn't be on the table.

Bro is out because of schooling (knew that for a long time, since last July).

Bro may be in for 2016, so I don't want to do one now IF it means that 2016 goes off the table.

Thanks for the concerns...really just trying to get a feel if I would enjoy gong solo.
