    My Trip Report

Starting to gear up for our upcoming trip which starts this Friday.

    Background

A couple years ago my husband and I took my niece and nephew (siblings) for their first ever trip to Vegas. We don't have kids of our own, so this was something we really wanted to do once they turned 21. Their own parents (my sister and BIL) aren't into Vegas, so who better to show them the ropes than their cool Aunt and Uncle? We had a great time, and afterward started talking about doing the same thing for some of the kids on his side of the family.

Now, husband was an Oops! baby, so his siblings are considerably older than him, making his nieces and nephews all adults in their 30's and 40's now. However there are lots of great-nieces and nephews who we are close to. The oldest is a girl who turned 23 last month. Her cousin, the second oldest, turned 21 in early April. We talked to them kind of half assed last year about taking them to Vegas together once he turned 21, little did we know they were NOT going to forget that offer! So it came up over Christmas and we decided to go for it. Nephew is in college, plays football and has an internship for the summer so his schedule was kind of tight, but the weekend of May 15th worked for everyone so we got on line last month and grabbed flights for everyone. Nephew is flying from Atlanta, Niece from Dallas where she lives and works, and us from Austin. Managed to time it to all get in around the same time late Friday night.

Plans are relatively loose. Thanks to advice from this board I did get them their own room, but only for 2 of the nights since the Fri/Sat were cost prohibitive. We'll make do for the first two. Only set plan is dinner at MB Saturday evening followed by cocktails at Mix. We will, of course, be taking them on the Bataan Death March of visiting all the various casinos, and may do Downtown Sunday night. We'll allow time for them to go off and do their own thing some, although the agreement from the very start was if we are paying, we expect them to hang out with us a good amount. They swear they actually want that. We didn't book any shows because we are already paying a lot for this trip, but maybe we'll do something spontaneously. Nephews parents have more money than God, so I was hoping maybe his Mom would offer to chip in for a show or nice meal or something, but I think she's a little butthurt that we are doing this fun thing with HER son without her, and I haven't heard a peep. Oh well.

In addition to flight, room, meals and most drinks/tips, we will also be giving them each a small gambling budget each day. We'll explain the various games, house edge, etiquette, pro's and con's of each, VP paytables etc. Definitely planning on some VP time at Cosmo so we can visit our favorite bartenders at Queue Bar.

I'm going to really try to post regular updates with lots of pictures via Tapatalk. I know I won't come close to the prolific TR's recently by SuperPocky or Katmu, but I'll do my best.

I almost always prefer the pic of the bankroll before the trip compared to the "after trip" pic. Something generally seems to be "missing" on the after.......

Right? I'm hoping this trip will be the exception....

    A few more details:

Rooms are booked at Bally's. We booked the first room - 2 queens Jubilee Tower - in early April and were able to get all 4 nights comped. Good thing we booked when we did because rates quickly started climbing after that. I went online and then called a little more than a week later to try to get a second room and they were wanting around $170 per night for Friday/Sat, and then $100 or so for Sun/Mon. Thought about just booking Sat/Sun/Mon for the 2nd room but they would not allow a Sat check in that weekend. Ended up getting second room in Indigo tower for about $70 per night Sun/Mon. When we check into that one I'll see what I can do about upgrading it to Jubilee Tower.

I think I have some offers that I may be able to attach to my reservation, for a small amount of free play. Need to check into that and call today if so.

A couple things we will be using on this trip: I've had the Reataurant.com gift certificate for over a year. We were supposed to use it last May on my husband's birthday, when we had to cancel all plans due to his epic hangover. We've been back twice since then, but it tough for 2 people to spend $100 at House of Freaking Blues, so we haven't. We got it for there because some of the folks on the Bday trip are super picky or cheap, and HOB had something for everyone.

Gift card was acquired using AMEX points, and we will use it to buy cocktails at Mix after dinner. I think the kids will really enjoy that.

Oh my dear god, I'm sitting at the bar and told the bartender, who is my friend, that I'm heading to Vegas. The dude next to me started going on about how much he knows about Vegas and gambling and everything. And he is SO FULL OF SHIT. It's all I can do not to laugh in his face. He says a Fire Bet in craps doesn't exist, and most BJ dealers cheat with the players.

How much has he had to drink?! I mean the fire bet is a well known thing. Start off your gambling early and bet him $50 it does!

Took this little beast in for her Bordetella booster, she'll go to "camp" this afternoon.

I'd love to find a good, trustworthy live in dog and house sitter. The dog is a nervous nelly and doesn't really like being boarded, but she tolerates it. But in her defense, she only has one eye and went through a pretty traumatic time when she lost the other one.

    Husky's are gorgeous dogs!

Yep that's probably why Frank has never seen them.

Small/tall/all is so much better anyway though.

Good luck Suekel! Looking forward to royals and aces!
