So next February i am going to las vegas for the very first time staying at the MGM Grand i know about the resort fees but could some one explain to me about the security deposit at check in because
i am a little confused. Is it a flat fee or per night? we are staying 5 nights in total and does this have to be put on a credit card, debit card or cash?

    Thank you

It's not really a security fee. It's more for incidentals and room charges. If you have a credit card with enough credit available, I'd advise putting it on that. They don't really charge you that amount, but put a hold on an amount (varies by hotel) so they can charge your card later. At the end of your stay, they will run your card for the amount of the room plus anything you charged to the room; food, movies on the room TV, spa visits, etc. The hold falls off a few days later.

If you pay cash, they hold on to the cash until you check out then take the room charges out of that amount and ask you to pay the difference.

With all the resort fees and resort credits and such that we have in the modern world of Las Vegas, it occurs to me that all of that and the credit card hold is just another way to keep you eating, drinking, shopping and going to shows in their resort, even if you aren't gambling. Charging to the room doesn't even feel like you are paying and, I guess, if you gamble enough, maybe you won't.
