I have read some where there is a nice scenic drive through the hills/mountains some where close to Vegas? Don't know if this is Red Rock or not? Or where this is?

Red Rock Canyon is the place. My favorite for many, many, years. When you hit Red Rock Hotel/Casino on Charleston you begin to get close to the Park.
Once you pass the Information booth (with a small fee), you will enter the 13 mile loop which has many sites to stop at and explore. You can hike the trails or just take pics, but RRC is a geographical wonder, and it's so close yet so far from the Vegas most people are familiar with.
I included a link for information:

Mt. Charleston has several scenic drives if you prefer trees rather than desert scenery. Beautiful anytime of the year but gotta watch the weather in winter.

We just did the Valley of Fire drive and it was spectacular and when you exit Valley of Fire the Lake Mead conservation area is right there to continue on towards Hoover dam. It is an all day drive but very worthwhile. There is a charge to go through each park.

83, I have done Mt. Charleston once, Valley of Fire a few times and Red Rock around ten times. Red Rock is the way to go for a quick drive with a peaceful setting and really wonderful views. Valley of Fire is stunning but it is a significant chunk of a day. Ms. Charleston was okay.
