I just returned from 4 nights at Sam's Town... here are some of my latest observations.

The pool is open and heated. Hours are currently from 10am-8pm. The hot tub was perfect for a cool January day.

The hotel seemed to be experiencing some sewage issues over the past week. Upon arrival the halls and elevator on the east side of the hotel smelled really bad. Inside the rooms is was tolerable, but not good. If anyone knows the smell the flood channel that goes by the hotel gets from time to time, it was similar. The first night was the worst and it got better each day. By the time we left the smell was gone, so hopefully you're safe now.

I only ate at the hotel twice for breakfast. The special at TGIF was fine and a good value at $3.99 and McDonald's was, well McDonald's. They had a lot of other specials going on that sounded great ($9.99 for the prime rib dinner buffet, $10 for steak and lobster at Billy Bob's, 1/2 off fajitas at Willy and Jose's), but we didn't spend a lot of time at Sam's because we couldn't win in the casino.

One other thing, nothing new, but if you can't catch a break in the casino, Sam's town feels even more isolated than normal. I guess you could argue that about most locals places, but I think that Sam's somewhat sketchy neighborhood make if feel more that way to me than others.

Thanks for the update. I was thinking about spending a night or two there on my next trip.

Too bad, I always liked that atrium in the middle.

I would have asked to be moved to one of their other hotels because of the smell.

The food at the buffet was never our type of cuisine. We used to always rent a car when we visited so the distance was no big deal plus the bus was right there and accurate per schedule listed if planning to imbibe. I hate hearing it is so far down the hill from when we stayed (like 10 years ago). Loved the table games and Billy Bob's. Really felt valued through the treatment of the staff from top to bottom. I don't understand how Suncoast, California, MSS, Orleans can be so clean and / or positive in visual / olfactory presentation and allow Sam's to be so shallow. It is sad.
And in a tight locals' market you would expect the opposite. Hopefully, it pulls out of the funk to an acceptable level soon.

TGIF is $3.99, and the deli in the sports book also has a $3.99 late night special, but neither was steak & eggs when I was there.
