I sure hope they can come up with a deal. It would be a huge blow to Vegas to lose the rodeo. They've been doing it for 29 years and last year, they estimate the rodeo brought in almost 90 million in nongaming revenue alone. There's a lot riding on (pun intended) keeping the rodeo finals in town.

The issue seems to be that Florida offered the Rodeo 4 million more than Vegas and that money could then be returned in prize money. That's a big chunk of change to offer in prizes. The Vegas group replied they'd have to increase ticket prices by 40% to be able to increase the offer to the same as Florida.

Hopefully Vegas can find some way to up the offer without costing the fans. While it might be less crowded at that time of year for the rest of us, Vegas needs volume to make everything work. If they lose the rodeo, the fall out could very well hurt us all.

    Just my thoughts.

I live in the Orlando area, and I think this is a longshot.

Silver Spurs Arena is far too small and not near the hotel district like the strip, it'll be a night mare getting in and out and then there's the plan of building another arena, primarily for this one event, where you still have the same issues and on top of all that, the Orlando (city itself) just agreed to shell out over $80 Million to fund that new soccer stadium, $20 Million of which will be in tourism taxes.

The area will really be over-extending itself both financially and infrastructure-wise

They make it sound like the Rodeo crowd didn't appreciate Vegas. On first glance, they didn't seem like gamblers but they didn't hit the casino until every event ended. And they were in every type of restaurant you could think of. If they do move to FL, I can see Vegas recovering more quickly that Orlando would be able to grow the event. I think a competing rodeo event would be silly and spiteful though.

Just read that the National Finals Rodeo is moving to Florida in 2015.
This is really sad news. Have always enjoyed watching the cowboys and girls in December each year.

Monte Carlo is building their arena, so maybe they will host something in 2 years. Not sure if it will be built and promoting will have enough time.

Since when has ORLANDO become a rodeo hotpost?? When they ponied up $$$$$$ BIG TIME I guess. I am NOT involved in the sport although I do watch it on occasion. However IMHO it makes as much sense as having the Summer Olympics in Anartica. Hopefully for LV it makes it way back there or to somewhere that it makes more sense.

At the risk of being beaten to the punch again, I will answer. Florida is a relatively big place for rodeos- the biggest place east of the Mississippi. I have attended the Arcadia rodeo several times. Although the quality of performance there is lower than what one sees at the NFR, in some ways it is more fun than the NFR. Outdoor rodeos like the one in Arcadia have a much different flavor from the NFR. I imagine that if central Florida (home of the giant rat) gets the NFR, the rodeo there will resemble the NFR in Las Vegas more than it will a genuine outdoor rodeo.

With Gaylord (Opryland) involved, there is big money behind it. The Opry community prides itself on being family and values oriented. Hence the talk about Osceola County being a gambling free environment. Make me puke.

I also suspect that the idea has been known among the PRCA community for a while, and that preparations were being made. I watched the NFR on television this year. The announcers constantly remarked about the small size of the arena compared to other venues, claiming that in some cases it affected the contestants' performance. I had not heard such talk in previous years. In retrospect, I believe they were preparing us.

Yep... I was hearing the past few weeks, from people who'd know, that this Orlando "thing" was far from a done deal and that it was being used as a negotiating ploy and a good one at that! These shit-kickers from Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, etc. don't wanna go to Orlando... they wanna be in Las Vegas!

Thanks for the update. That is such good news for Vegas and for us personally.

We're from the UK and the Rodeo Finals have been on our bucket list since we saw the PBR Finals in 2009. We hadn't had the opportunity to get there yet and this gives us hope we'll make it one year.

Glad the cowboys will be paid more. Florida and the Gaylord group certainly made an excellent straw man. I had hoped but could not tell that the cowboys were using Florida to raise the ante. There is also the stock contractor element to consider in all of this. They're a pretty savvy group, and they got more, too.

Was it leverage to get a better deal?
