    My Trip Report

Left out of Indy on Sun the 21st and arrived in Vegas about 7:30. Rented a car from Fox rental car. Wouldnt do this again. They are not with all the other companies at the rental facility. You have to take two shuttles to get your car. Not worth the hassle.

Arrived at the El Cortez about 8:30. Checked in to my Cabana room and went down to bar to meet up with my friend Rhonda and her sister Karen. I hadn't seen Rhonda in about a year so it was so nice to see her. We played some video poker and had a few drinks. We decided to go check out the Gold Spike. Cashed out with 100.00 profit (good start so far)

Walked down to the Spike. The walk was fine and didnt feel unsafe at all. Plus I had these two pretty women to protect me if things got ugly LOL. When we got to the Spike I was surprised. Not a dump at all. Very small but very modern looking. We sat at the big bar and had a few more drinks and played video poker. Karen and myself ordered the prime rib special. For 5.99 I thought it was pretty good. I was starving so maybe anything would have tasted good at that point. We had a great time chatting and talking to the young bartender. Cashed out for 200.00. They hand pay at the Spike so that was kind of a pain. I was suffering severe jet lag so it was time to go. I have made about 300.00 in my first few hours so I was happy. The girls and myself walked back down to the El Cortez and said our goodbyes. So far, trip is off to a good start.

Woke up early as I usually do my first morning in Vegas. The only thing I didnt like about the Cabana rooms is that they are all non smoking. Went outside to feed my morning habit. Had breakfast at the Cafe Cortez. Two eggs, bacon, potatos and toast for 5.99. Thought is was good. Had a meet scheduled for 1 at the Flamingo so it was time for some blackjack. I am not a highroller by any means. Usually play between 25-75 a hand. One thing that I always do though is play $1 for the dealer every hand (superstition) Bought in for 300 and was ready to go. The El Cortez must not get a lot of green chip players. They looked at me like I was Bill Gates LOL. They must not get tipped a lot either and since I was betting for them every hand they all loved me. Played for a couple hours and was down about 100. Went over to try some roulette. Bought in for 100. Played for about and hour and cashed out for 160.

Rhonda called me and told me to meet her at Flamingo for the meet because she was running late. Drove down Las Vegas Blvd to the Flamingo. Drove past the shop that they film the show Pawn Stars. Couldnt believe the line of people waiting to get in. Got to the Flamingo and Rhonda and myself were the only two to show up for meet. We played video poker for awhile and then I followed her back downtown.

My quest this trip was to get my picture taken with Jackie Gaughen. We were back at the El Cortez and I was telling the bartender about my quest. Next thing I know I look up and here comes Jackie with his bodyguard. I walked up and asked for a pic but the bodyguard told me no. He said they were on way to dinner. Stike one.

Rhonda and me ate dinner at the Cafe Cortez. We both had prime rib and it was very good.We then went and hung out on Feemont street for rest of night. Had the shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate and just walked around. It seems like sexy blackjack dealers are the trend at all the downtown casinos. The ones at the Gollden Gate looked like they were bored out of there mind.

Its Tuesday. Atomic day! Woke up and went down to cafe for breakfast. Was going to play blackjack and wait for my friend Rhonda to show up. The dealers were glad to see me back. Kinda makes you feel good when people remember you. Got on a good run and was up about 600. Then the drunk showed up. This girl was so drunk at 11AM. She was getting on my nerves so bad but since I was rolling I didnt want to get up. I kept waiting for the pit boss to tell her to leave but they kept serving her. She was loosing all her money so I figured they would wait for her to loose it all. I finally had enough and decided to leave. Gave some back but ended up about 400 ahead. Went to play video poker and wait for Rhonda.

While I was waiting I had my second Jackie sighting. Again, I walked up and asked for a pic. Was told no once again. I dont think its going to happen.

Rhonda arrived and the fun was about to begin LOL. I told her that we would take my car down to the Atomic in case it got stolen LOL. We got there and she was a liitle unsure about going in. I told her it would be fine because at 5' 9" 175 lbs I am pretty intimmidating LOL. Plus, I had my Harley jacket on so everyone would be afraid of me. Inside was not that bad. Just a bare bones bar. We sat, had a couple drinks and talked to the bartender. A couple of the locals came up and talked to us also. One of them even showed Rhonda a couple things on her camera. The bartender asked if we liked the new TV. The old one broke a couple years ago and they got this one last week. We had a good time and although there were some strange characters in there. They all seeemed harmless.

Next stop, the Western. We left car at Atomic and walked over to the Western. Someone was getting arrested outside as we were walking in. This was going to be fun. The place really wasnt that bad inside. Went and sat at the bar, chatted with the bartender and had a couple drinks. Did not gamble there but I wouldnt mind. Glad I checked it out.

Walked back over to get car. Drove to MSS and had dinner at the 777 Brew Pub. Food was good and we had fun just talking. We have become really good friends and always enjoy eachothers company. Rhonda had to go so we drove back to the El Cortez to get her car. She went home and I drove down to Palazzo to check in.

This is the first time that I have ever double booked but I wasnt sure how much I would like downtown. Checked in Palazzo and then headed back to the Cortez. Walked down to Gold Spike to play some blackjack with the sexy dealers. Bought in for 400 green and they looked at me like I was on crack. Began betting 25 a hand a my usual $1 for the dealer. Those sexy girls took me for about 300 in the first 20 min. Got on a little run and then kept going back and forth for the next couple hours. The pit boss was very nice to me and kept comming over to see if I needed anything. I cashed out down 80 and went over to play some video poker. Ran 40 through the machine, had a few more Beam and 7s and called it a night.

On Wednesday just kind of hung out with Rhonda at got ready to leave the El Cortez. We went to lunch and said our goodbyes. It was really great to see her. I headed down to the Palazzo and took a nap. I was leaving early the next morning so I just kind of hung out at the bar and played poker all night. Carey, the bartender at Palazzo remembers me from the last few times I have been there. It was good to see him and we taked for awhile. Had a great time.

Overall I really enjoyed downtown way more than I thought I would. I am not a big show or fine dining person so downtown fits me fine. I did not miss the strip at all. It was a great trip and I loved every minute of it. Thanks for reading.

:cheers:Sounds like you had a great trip--and you had a lot of fun which is wonderful and what Vegas trips are all about.
Most of us do not need to stay in the fanciest propertys to enjoy Vegas--but have to say-:wink2:-do enjoy it once in a while.

always enjoy your reports Rider....nice you got to see Rhonda twice. Hey if its just you and her at a meet, doesn't that by definition become a "date"...j/k buddy, glad you had a good time. Hopefully we can meet up again for a meet if our plans intersect.

Ok gotta finish reading and check out the pics!

I am really hoping there is a shower scene here somewhere, especially given the hot company i know you were hanging out with. If its not in the report, I'll just use my imagination and pretend you are taking a "what happens in vegas, stays in vegas" tact. lol.
