Looks pretty sharp. But their pool makeover is bland. The old setup with the tunnels and swim up jacuzzi was awesome!

Hmm... looks like a version of Harmon Corner.

I hope it works out for them.

There have been so many proposed plans for this place over the years, I'll believe it when I see it. It's certainly a prime location.

Maybe it's just me but I don't go to Vegas for the shopping, I'm sick of all the new retail opening up.

I hope they improve their food court because currently it sucks and nothing worthwhile is open 24 hours. I always feel like I am trapped in another city if I find myself at Tropicana late at night.

Yeah, when it comes to the Trop, it's "Believe it when I see it"

I actually stayed at the trop once when my wife and I were there to see a UFC fight at MB. We actually didn't find it too bad there (but could have used a makeover for sure).

I got a better vide from that place than MGM, loved the swim-up BJ :)

I like playing craps there once per trip. It's pretty quiet there. Not much going on, even the Mob Attraction is moving out.

As far as the makeover goes, good luck to them. However, the CVS/Walgreens, shopping thing is way overdone. How about a unique attraction that brings people over?? Something like TI's pirate show, Mirage's volcano, etc.

Making the casino more accessible from the pedestrian bridges is the key to the Trops success imo. This seems like a good idea. Whether it will happen anytime soon is another thing.

Wow. Another shopping area/mall. That just means will have another bigger and better one being planned next month.

No, but you're not the "Prime Audience" for Vegas....WOMEN are...
Get the women to come and you're set with the men...women spend money in the casino AND shopping and bring their men to the casino too...
Ever know that slots were ORIGINALLY intended for "something for the little woman to do"??
This is another reason I prefer DT and OffStrip...NO SHOPPING MALLS!

I am with Vegas Vic and place this one in the category of the once proposed Beverly Hillbilly's Casino/Hotel, Giant King Kong that was once going to scale Strat...

The owners of the Trop cannot even make their day club viable, why would someone finance a huge upgrade when they pretty much wasted the last one?

Forgot to mention, I still wish they would build a Beverly Hillbilly's hotel/casino and would pay dearly to have the Clampet truck limo me from the airport!

I get that women "love to shop" and are the target (fortunately my GF doesn't fit the target, at least not in Vegas :) ). But I see a ton of empty stores when I do go through the retail areas. Empty as in few/no customers. The retail aspect is going to be overdone (if it's not already) and we'll start seeing a turnover in retail with stores closing/being replaced. Casinos won't want vacant stores so they'll have to lower rents and soon enough (hopefully) that will be an end to all the retail expansion.

I agree with this. The bubble will burst.

I do welcome the change tho'. The Tropicana is usually an afterthought, imo.

I was in Tropicana once. 1st night of my 3rd vegas trip (Dec. 2011) and 2nd w/my g/f. We just had a horrific trip to In 'n Out involving hitching a ride from NYNY parking garage to there with a random 50-year old Asian woman. I appreciated the woman's kindness, but my g/f wanted to kill me. It really didn't help that burgers/fries were so bad there that we have never gone back to In-N-Out; the Steak 'n' Shake I had at Southpoint earlier this year was at least 5X better, imo.

We obviously had to walk back from in-n-out though, and my g/f still wanted to kill me/was tired. We stop in Tropicana because it was on the way back and it was just recently renovated. We walk around, and I realize this casino is designed for short people. I had to go to the bathroom and the hall leading to it had to be only 7'. I'm not that tall (6'1") but they tried to make me feel like I'm a giant. And at the time they had a mix poker game going, which is the only live poker I usually play in Vegas. And for a Saturday night it was only one of two tables going. I debated for awhile, but my g/f ended up winning the battle, so we left. I sorta regret that now since the poker room is closed. It was a nice room, but never got traction. But on the other hand, my g/f has gone on 4 more trips with me, so maybe it was the right call anyway.

As for the shopping it might help, but I wouldn't count on it. The casino looked nice at the time, although it does cater to shorter people.

I really like the "new" trop and have spent a significant amount of time gambling there over my last two trips. I welcome the expansion as I think it deserves it. I think shops there could do quite well, as the Mandalay Shops are nothing great and for people at the MGM, NYNY, Luxor and Mandalay, Crystals and PH mall are the closest things. I think this could be successful.

The Clark County Zoning Commissioners gave their blessing to the $100 million project earlier this week, calling it "terrific" and expressing excitement for the turnaround of that section of The Strip. It's hoped that shovels will hit the ground by the first half of 2014 with an anticipated completion date by 2015's end. Some 200-300 permanent jobs are expected to be created.

Theres more than enough stores on the strip but it looks good and that was a ton of premium wasted space
