Beatty might be your best bet, or pick a motel as you drive though a town.

It's a 7 hour drive the whole way, Reno to Vegas on Highway 95. Tonopah is almost exactly half way, 3.5 hours. Beatty 5 hours (2 hours from Vegas).

I think you'll find those two cities are literally the only ones with even so much as a motel on that route beyond Hawthorne. It's empty desert most of the way.

If you want to drive most of the way, Pahrump would have some hotels also. That puts you about an hour away from Vegas. It's about 6.5 hours from Reno to Pahrump.

We've done that trip twice now, and did not feel the need to stop. Leave in the morning, get in to LV late afternoon.

Heavens, yes, this. Unless you're going the scenic route (395 then across DVNP), in which case you would want to take some time and enjoy, then just bunk in Reno at a good rate and cruise on down the next day.

Hawthorne sort of works, a hair under five hours out of Vegas. I have stayed there a few times, either at the ElCapitan Resort and Casino ( snicker snicker ) or the Americas Best Value. Both serviceable and clean if not fancy. ElCapitan a couple years ago had nickle VP at the bar, I put in a twenty, put a fiver out as a tip and I swear I was instantly the highest roller in the place.

Hawthorne actually has the munitions museum, which is worth a stop if you have any interest in that sort of thing. I found it very interesting and I am not really a gun guy or a veteran of any branches of the service. They have torpedos, napalm bombs, huge shells, and the gift shop was selling metal ammo boxes for a buck. Great for tools and stuff like that.

We are staying this October in Tonapah at the Mizpah. I actually read the reviews on the Clown Motel just for fun, YIKES ! Plus clowns.......no way, it sounded like a bad acid trip. There is also another hotel casino there that I have stopped and played in but not stayed in, small casino but clean, the rooms get decent reviews.

I will report on the Mizpah after we get there.

Stayed at the Best Western in Tonopah on our way to Las Vegas from Reno. We were pleased--basic room, laundry and very nice hot breakfast. Saw the Clown Motel but were not inclined to stop. :rolleyes2:
